Junk Tardis Console Playset
Highly detailed 5-inch scale Junk TARDIS based on the design by Susannah Leah, winner of the Blue Peter ‘Design a TARDIS Console’ competition. Features include flight restraint safety straps; removable console panel and time rotator.
Use the spinner on the base to fly the TARDIS, get strapped in first though – it could be a rough ride! Action figure not included. Assembly required. 5+
Retail price seems to be around £20.00

The spinner – put your thumb on the rotating device (A) and use the handle (B) and spin the Tardis – Hold tight!

Two sets of groves for the feet (The Doctor and Idris, yes where is Idris?) are provided along with flight restraint straps to hold the figures in place when you spin the Tardis…

This is a great playset… can’t wait to put Idris onboard lol.
The only problem I had with this was assembling those card pieces… every time I’d get one under one tab… another bit would pop out etc (I got quite frustrated lol). I ended up creasing that back piece slightly getting it in.
Anyway, the thing I like the most about this set, is you can actually properly play with it (unlike the 11th Doctor’s PLAY*cough*set).
You can get some serious speed with the spinner.

yeah this set is awesome!just got it recently and had the same problems with the card. don’t you think it’s very odd to put one piece of card on the back as well? plus, its really hard to fit on.

I like the colour on the back, since you see the back when you ‘spin’ it. Those pieces of card though are awful to assemble (they are far too tight).
I’d much rather if the backgrounds were good quality decals – that way you can get them on easily, and don’t have to worry about tabs.

hey booboo i bought this on a day trip to dorchester wile i was on holiday got back to were we were staying opened it started to asemble it and then found out that the right wall piece was mising and i couldnt take it back as it was miles away this takes the mick as no were else stocked it at the time

on the back of the box it said that the action figure is sold seperately. an indication that we will get that 11th doctor? i sure hope we do! i think that they should have released that 11th doctor in series 6 wave one instead of the stetson version.

it doesn’t really indicate anything at all. only that an 11th Doctor figure exists. (Which we obviously know). All it does is tell us there isn’t a figure included.

I did once email them a while ago asking about it and they said that they had it in production but they lost the sculpt made for it. seems like a silly excuse to me. you wouldnt expect them to loose a sculpt from a highly organised place like
designworks/Character Options. But then again if they have a manufacturing problem that delays wave 1 of series 6 figures then maybe they were telling the truth.You would have expected them to have at least done a prototype sculpt by now. only time will tell but we will get rory at some point.

i think its brilliant for £20, but would be best with figures.
Its not as detailed as the Large Tardis, the time rotor extends and is removable, it just strikes me as good value for £20

I was at Forbidden Planet just yesterday, they don’t have any new new-Series stuff, just plenty of classics. I had a tough choice between the three things I wanted and was allowed to have:
The Master and Tardis set.
Peri on Varos set.
And Peter Davison from Logopolis.
I wanted to get the Master and 5th Doctor regeneration but this would have been too much, so I had to settle for the Doctor’s dear girl, Perpagillium Brown instead. Always meant to have that set.

I’m vainly clinging to the hoope that this Tardis background is painted, but my brain and eyes are of course telling me it is cardboard… I just hope it at least has a nice metallic finish.
I’m am quite tired of cardboard in playsets though.
I hope at least the console paintwork will match up with this prototype, and not be released with fewer inferior colours like the 11th Doctor playset was…

I think that Doctor figure is a prototype from last season and not for release. CO have stuck prototype images on final box art before (11 Doctor Tardis Playset COUGH)…. I HATE it when they do that, it’s misleading, since the prototypes generally look nicer than the mass produced item you get in the box… (and I’d really like to own that figure!)
If this Junk set is nice, I’m seriously thinking about rigging a light into the time rotor, and maybe even pulling the SFX setup out of a regular flight control tardis and fitting it into…

It *should* have lights/sound yes, because it is a PLAYset and not an ornament. The fact that the Tardis can be assembled/unassembled, would have made it slightly trickier to put in a light, but certainly not impossible.
I would have happily paid and extra £5 for a red glow and a couple of sound effects, but it’s not to be. CO seem to be shying away from these now (mega shame!). For example, the 11th Doctor Flight Control Tardis is missing the interior light, and the 11th Doctor Playset had no lights/sound whatsoever…

Have there been any mock-ups of this seen? Otherwise not sure. It certainly doesn’t LOOK very big. If the Doctor figure is to scale… I’d say… 7-8 inches tall maybe? Probably a bit wider.

Yeah, the time rotor is the column in the middle. (I think the 11th Doctor would describe it as the ‘uppy downy thing’!) Except this model doesn’t have a functioning time rotor, just a dismantable one.
We won’t know 100% what the spinner is until these are seen in the ‘flesh’ (so to speak), but it will most likely be the same as the flight control Tardis. That is, a free-moving rotating indent under the Tardis that you balance one finger on. Then you ‘spin’ the Tardis by twirling it from the top with your other hand. (Make sense?)…

looks like it does not come ready made so you could do a recreation seen of the doctor and idris building the tardis that is if an ideis figure is released

There is a “space” in the floor for an Idris figure to stand.
Also, the description says that both the rotor and panel can be removed. The console and the walls can probablly be removed as well.

There are two feet shaped holes on the base of the console, going by the shape it would need to be a high heel and Idris stood at that position in the episode. Hope this means we will get a figure.

there are another 2 feet holes in the ground on the other side which you can’t see so that makes room for the doctor and Idris (I HOPE) i think its for the hole ballance for when you spin it…. round

Bit dissapointed that it hasn’t got any lights or sounds on the console, but I suppose it can’t be helped.

i have 198 figures doesent inclued duplicots and 12 of them are in bad condition but 188 of them are fine most of them are in good condition

I aren’t one of these people. I can afford some of these. But, it is the sadness of wanting and having to make decisions between products that make that make us glum and unhappy. I understand your point, but in this economy, no matter how many new dr who items are released, nobody is in a position to buy them all. CO are desperate and want people to try and collect everything.

I think this confirms that they will just HAVE to bring out an Idris figure now. Having said which, Character seem to enjoy doing the unexcpected…Where’s a Rory and River Song figure yet?! We’ve had some very exciting ‘unusual’ toys like the ‘stone’ Pandorica figures, Dr with fez etc. Wish they stil brought out figures of the ‘Tennant’ era in their classics range. Still waiting for a Tritovore, Ms Hartigan and John Lumic (before conversion)
