I recently bought a Fourth Doctor time capsule (number 4390) and I was wondering if a Third Doctor action figure in the same suit as the Fourth Doctor included in the capsule was ever released. Was one released?

Confusingly if you get them the quickest delivery (AirFreight) from Gordon and Gotch, usually costs around $20 per issue, that is only about three weeks after UK. If you wait for standard issues (about 2-3 months after UK) they are $15 per issue.

Your best bet to be honest is to just get them put aside at newsagents

Has anybody else’s figurines come today, I didn’t think it was that long since the last ones came. The emoji bot is surprisingly good and the space zombie looks better than the actual picture on the cover

    • Doctor Stu

      February 19th, 2018 - 12:51pm

Yeh the wiirn is really good, it’s actually looks good as a figurine when you think about how low budget the original prop/costume must have been. It would have been nice for the emoji bot to maybe have come with some variants on the face because the expression is just a sticker that they’ve transferred onto the figurine

Has anyone got the seperate blu-ray releases of Series 1, 2, 3 and 4?

I’m considering buying them and replacing my series 1-4 dvds. Is the quality on the blu ray any good? Do they contain mini episodes like Born Again and Time Crash and all the confidentials and tv interviews and other Extras?

      February 19th, 2018 - 1:28pm

I’ve got the series one and two steelbook and to be honest I don’t think there’s a huge amount of difference. This is down to two factors: the first four series weren’t shot in HD and blu-ray players automatically upscale Dvds to the best of their ability (a DVD in a blu-ray player will still never look as good as a blu-ray) so as the blu ray discs for these series are themselves only upscaling a lower quality image it will never look great.

    • Anonymous

      February 19th, 2018 - 4:11pm

There’s really little they can do in terms of the visuals so you don’t get much benefit. If I remember correctly though the audio quality is supposed to be higher on Blu Rays simply down to differences in compression techniques so if you were going to notice any difference that is where it would be.

In regards to the figurine collection, I have two questions:
1 – Is there any reason why Issues 118-120 are being dispatched as one shipment next month rather than the regular 2 at a time?
2 – I’ve heard that the Mandrel and the 13th doctor are in the pipeline for future additions, but beyond those two do we have any strong hints or confirmation as to what will come after Issue 127 (Mondasian Cyberman)?

120 will not be coming with 118 and 119, we have not been charged for it. The payment schedule was based on the collection ending at 120, so has now changed, and 120 will be with 121.

Well, there is another Second Doctor coming, it’s currently sitting around 126 (delaying the Missy figurine). Another Eleventh Doctor is also planned.

      February 18th, 2018 - 9:24pm

The Whitaker Doctor and Ainley Master are the only figures that are definitely confirmed, everything else is just a consideration until we are told otherwise (even the Mandrel which keeps getting brought up here).

I guess it’s the 7B Eleventh Doctor, but I can’t think what the 2nd doctor will be. Two doctors variant? Fur overcoat? Salamander even? I’d love to see a Salamander figurine actually.

    • Pip

      February 18th, 2018 - 11:08pm

Where were the extra Doctors confirmed? I feel that they’re a wasted slot to be honest, I’d much rather have brand new figures and it annoys me that the coll has been extended just to make more of the same figures, it feels like a bit of cash grab against subscribers. Having said that the exception to the rule is the Eleventh Doctor: Matt’s first figure was awful for many reasons and he deserves a second; plus I’ve wanted one of the purple frock coat costume for a long time (as the folks at Harrop will know!).

    • Anonymous

      February 18th, 2018 - 11:33pm

Sounds like it’s going to be the Power version.

At the end of the day, Doctors sell and there’s been demand to release variants so that’s what they are doing and if it keeps people buying they’ll keep on doing it. Besides even if you were subscribing “just for the monsters” it’s still a better deal than buying them individually due to the price rises.

Sadly it look’s like TRUS (Not just in the UK but Europe as well) has until 27th. Feb to stave off falling into administration. It seem’s the recent re-structuring just covered their Pensions Deficit only, whilst the whole company will collapse unless a buyer is found.

Can’t say I’m surprised. They’re also not in the same position as say HMV or Game, who pretty much have a monopoly on their markets, being the only retailer to serve those markets and therefore being much more desirable for a buyout (which obviously is what happened). There is so much competition in the toy sector that I’d be surprised to see TRU survive the year to be honest especially with their business model of large out of town stores.

A 2nd Doctor TARDIS (pretty much a straight-up repaint of the 4th Doctor TARDIS since I believe that is based on basically the same model a few paint jobs down the line) might not add too much extra to the price, particularly if it’s non-electronic. That would make an awesome “Second Doctor Collector Pack”.
