When the Stars Screamed A Dalek Anthology Charity Book

They don’t hate you. They don’t fear you. They simply don’t believe you have the right to exist.

When the Stars Screamed is a bold, chilling reimagining of the Daleks at their most terrifying. Set against the backdrop of shattered galaxies and smouldering timelines, this powerful anthology peels back the layers of one of science fiction’s most iconic villains—revealing the cold logic, fanaticism, and genocidal horror that fuels their endless war.

Featuring gripping new stories by Chris McAuley, John Peel, Seb Short, and Terry Molloy, and brought to life through the visceral, haunting interior illustrations of Charles Waples, and cover artwork by Terraqueous Distributors editor Mark Worgan, this collection delivers a fresh, unflinching perspective on the true nature of the Daleks and their creator, Davros.

Crafted with insight and authenticity by writers and performers who’ve helped shape the Daleks across decades of Doctor Who storytelling, ‘When the Stars Screamed’ is essential reading for fans who want to rediscover why these monsters remain the most feared in the galaxy.

But this book is more than just dark fiction. It’s a force for good.

Is this only available as a physical hardback? Is it available in digital format? I ask because I live in the US, and shipping books here can be mighty expensive. But I’d love to support this effort.

It’s not available as a digital product.

Shipping to the US isn’t anymore expensive, as LULU have printing/distribution centres in various locations across the globe, including the US.

It’s printed via lulu using the facility nearest to you, so you can use their shipping calculator for an estimate.

Thanks to both of you for your quick responses.
I’d rather have it as a digital download, since I’ve got way too many oversized books taking ups space in a small apartment. But it’s good to know that shipping won’t be insanely expensive, if I choose to buy the book.
Either way, I already donated, since it’s a good cause.

@Amypondfan, you don’t pay for the book until you send proof of $5 donation. Terraqueous are reputable and will send you a link to buy it from lulu. They created this book to raise money for the charity and this way helps make sure all of the donation goes where it should

    • Rory, the original you might say

      October 29th, 2025 - 2:32pm

A company I worked for received a complaint because their investment had gone down. When it was pointed out that the terms and conditions explicitly state that investments can go down as well as up, they threatened to sue because we should be able to guarantee that investments will always make money, and it was negligent on our part to expect them to read the T&Cs to which they were agreeing.

I wish I could say that’s my only example of people getting angry because they didn’t read, but I’ve got dozens.

This is a brilliant idea for a great cause (and who doesn’t love Daleks) but I have to say I think this will put people off, especially older people who struggle online and those who simply cba with the steps!!
It would have been much easier just to have publish on demand or publish the book and the profits to MS.
I don’t mean to whatsit on anyone’s chips, just my thoughts and I hope plenty sell.

I’m not saying this to persuade you in anyway to purchase the book – we dont benefit from any sales.
But Lulu ship worldwide for a low cost, as they have printers and distribution here in the UK, and in the US , and other locations across the globe.

I completely understand where your coming from, the author lives in the US, and chose yhe charity.

However I know for a fact that the author would be delighted if you donated to a British MS charity.
It really doesn’t matter, what is important is that we’re doing.some.good.for a good cause.

Please choose an MS charity of your choice, and then forward the email confirmation to the email address mentioned above.
      And that will count.

      $5 is currently £3.75.

Say your bank does you dirty and charges you a £1.25 currency conversion charge.

      You’ve donated £5.

I have MS. It’s a terrible and ravaging incurable disease.

I’m in the states. I’ll be paying big time for overseas shipping, and a currency conversion cost on top of that. As well as donating to the charity.

We don’t have an NHS. The uninsured market price of my annual medication is $318,172.20, more than £239,000.00.

I wish my problem was the conversion cost of a £3.75 donation to charity.
