Doctor Who Circuit-Breaker The Kaleidoscope Hardcover

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

When memories lie, the truth can be fatal.

In the aftermath of an improbable mission, the Fugitive Doctor and Martha realise that something is interfering with their minds. Something that doesn’t want to be found.

Their investigation leads to a curious artefact in the British Museum: an apparently medieval toy known as the Kaleidoscope. But the object refuses to stay in one place, one time – or one identity. And when the Doctor is repeatedly mistaken for someone she’s never met, fragments of unfamiliar memories begin to surface.

Across the Earth, a hidden pattern emerges; evidence of a secret that someone has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal. As ancient enemies close in and innocent lives are put at risk, the Doctor learns the hard way that some truths were buried for a reason…

A key instalment of the Doctor Who transmedia event Circuit Breaker, this novel is written by the Fugitive Doctor herself, Jo Martin – and also features Martha Jones (as played by Freema Agyeman) together with the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, or UNIT.

Fantastic to be getting a new novel with the Fugative Doctor, but was not expecting Martha, a d early Martha at that. The dreadlocks Martha from Later on, is so similar to the Fugative Doctor,it might have been interesting to see how they “worked ” together or just butted heads.

But the earlier Martha is also interesting,as one can wonder if this is what helped inspire, the Dreadlocks version of later.

    Wonderfully interesting turn of event.

Doom’s Day was great, I think you just didn’t give it a chance. The multimedia events are great for fans of the Doctor Who Expanded Universe.

That’s one of the many advantages of being a subscriber: I’m not forced to pay more for this month’s issue simply because it happens to come with an extra section that will simply get dumped into the recycling immediately!
I’ve been getting DWM for nearly a decade now, and I’ve only kept a tiny handful of the extra gifts that have come with it. Pretty much all the others are focusing on extending the parts of the magazine I don’t really care to read in the first place!

Unfortunately, it appears not, Loobop. It’s already fallen down at the second release. The “Adversary of the Daleks” comic was due on the 8th July, following the opener “Calling the Doctor” on the UNIT website. The comic has failed to materialise and is showing as “Currently Unavailable” on the Forbidden Planet website. I messaged Titan Comics yesterday, who have kindly replied stating that there’s been a delay receiving the comic from the US printers. Not now expected until at least the 22nd July (no guarantee) and issue 2 also very likely to be delayed as well. This is why these multi-media events are a nightmare, and what puts people off engaging. At a time when we need something to go right in the DW franchise, this is not helping.

I’ve read the comic already. That’s just the physical edition, you can literally go and get it digitally. The multi-media events arent a nightmare. What isn’t helping is the constant negativity. If its not for you, accept that and move on and focus on positives.

      July 17th, 2026 - 12:11am

For some people Jamie physical items are what they want. Don’t dismiss Alan just because he wants physical copies of the comic. It certainly doesn’t help sales if items aren’t available in all promised formats.

Hi Amypondfan. Surely if someone want the physical comic they have it ordered, will buy when in stock online or instore. So no loss of income.

There seems to be a general issue of late with Vinyl and book releases all being pushed back. This seems to be an industry thing. The negativity is getting everyone down. And comments like Loss of sales.dosent help. Sales will be what they are,if someone wants it they will buy it,later when it’s out. I have 5 vinyl releases delayed, 1 specifically due to printing issues on the cover/inner sleeve. 2 books that have moved to sept and another that says First week of December, I’m not sure that’s going to make it in 2026 🙂 Delays happen. They sky hasn’t fallen in.

And it’s these inevitable delays, Bryan, that curse these multi-media events – it only takes one of the stakeholders not to deliver their part on time, and people start to think “why bother”. At a time when the whole DW brand is facing an uncertain future, there was positive buzz around “Circuit Breaker” filling the gap, and great promotion like the colourful release schedule shown above and Jo Martin doing interviews. But has already fallen at the second item. I know it’s not Titan Comic’s fault or Forbidden Planet’s fault regarding the shipping delays, but as this is becoming more and more of an issue why not wait until all the individual parts have been printed/recorded and in the warehouse before announcing a schedule?

      July 17th, 2026 - 3:57pm

Hi Alan. Can you imagine the size /space needed to store multiple comic covers issues,Records CDs all kept in one space, then sent out under multiple franchisees control. The days of a Sony distribution for Dvd/Blu ray is over ,its never begun for multi media.

BF send stuff,FP,send stuff,BBC(Amazon, hive, zavvi,HMV etc) send stuff, when it arrives. No space at each place for multiples of anything .

It’s not A DW fault,or a BBC fault. But the content downers, just become draining. Even you didn’t exonerate BBC/DW from fault.

As I said. Those that want to buy will buy. Many I know. Have the comics ordered,or will buy when I stock. Some of the comic prints, go up for pre order,to help with print numbers per cover. 2 people I know have every cover (uk) on order for both issues. Never understood that devotion.

Delays are always possible,no one does it on purpose, people are working hard doing thier best to deliver something, maybe I’m chilled as I know they will turn up.

Oh DW is not facing an uncertain feature, it’s up for Tender,it was going to do this in 2028 as that was the Bad Wolf tender. So it’s a year earlier. There’s scripts to write, fabrication of sets, objects etc. It’s all still there, beings worked out. I’d love Kit Connor if they go young, or Harry Lloyd if they go older. But that’s another exciting adventure for A Tomorrow.

      July 17th, 2026 - 10:13pm

Amypondfan, I wasn’t dismissing anyone. They claimed it wasn’t available which is factually incorrect. You can get a digital copy, while waiting for the physical. It hasn’t been catastrophically delayed and the rest of the event, like you implied. They haven’t missed any marks, I’m not sure why Alan seems to think so. They haven’t delayed it, its still all on track. Sure the physical copy is a bit late, but the digital is there and many of us have reviewed and rated the story.

The events are amazing, especially for those of us who do all of Doctor Who’s media anyways. If its not for you, accept it, move on, and stop being so negative.

    • Amypondfan

      July 18th, 2026 - 11:25am

Yes Jamie but it isn’t factually incorrect. The physical version is unavailable. Not everybody wants digital versions. A digital version exists but that means nothing if you want a physical copy to own.

    • Ano miss

      July 18th, 2026 - 11:30am

People can have their own opinions Jamie. For many fans these events are not good. They have been of variable quality. And not everyone can afford to or wants to buy everything that gets released. Especially as the quality isn’t great. But perhaps you should follow your own advice and “accept it, move on, and stop being so negative” to people who have a valid opinion.

    • Jamie

      July 18th, 2026 - 11:40am

Well yes, but saying it has delayed the whole thing is truly incorrect at a factual level. There is a digital copy, people can do that while they wait for the physical. The event is still ongoing, and there are no delays. Maybe to the physical stock, but the story exists and is available to read.

I’m So Sick & Tired of these Multi-Media Cash-Grabs. They’ll just lazy, desperate & Pathetic. Repackaging Already good standalone Episodes that really had absolutely nothing to do with this whole “Grand Plan” with whatever the Roadmap says.

It didn’t work the first 2 times. And it won’t work for next 5-8 times in the future.

It worked for some people, and its not a “cash grab” as these companies make Doctor Who regardless, but connecting it is SO rewarding for fans of the Doctor Who Expanded Universe. If its not for you, then just leave it alone no need to get tired by it.

Well, another Who story I’ll miss out on again – the audio from Big Finish is just way too expensive and the games 1 not gonna happen. Big Finnish does the absolute best “movies for your kind” audio dramas, but their pricing is., well, fixed income isn’t gonna cut it for this story! Are most “Whovians” out there made of cash?

I now only by some books, primarily target books and adaptations, along with the dr who magazine comic strip collections and the erimem and Cushing books. Now after 2025 I’m stopping buying the original fiction as well. I still get the animations and new series but I’m not getting war between as I wasn’t too impressed by it. Money is a factor, it’s far too expensive to just buy everything but the fact is I’ve been finding the original fiction not to my taste for a while now. The idea of a book by jo Martin appeals but not at £22 and there is no guarantee of a paperback edition. Besides these multi media events don’t appeal much to me now so I think I wont be getting any of it. For those who do get it, I hope you enjoy it.

I don’t game, I’m way to old, missed that on. But I love my Audiobooks,Vinyl & CD and the Books. With TLV I didn’t do “everything” nor with Doom’s Day. But both ranges were very enjoyable. Big Finish do the best. with full cast as BBC seem to go for Narrated. I believe both ranges sold very well in thier components and Target audiences.

Hopefully another Viny as TLV & Doom got one each. Now just waiting for the Vinyl Edition of a Walkman :

Take the 9th Doctor adventures right now. Around a tenner, and you get Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, several other cast members, the writer, the composer, the script editor, the sound designer, the director, the cover artist and others wages to pay. A tenner ain’t bad for all of that. You don’t *have* to do all of their output, you can pick and choose. The pricing is *not* terrible when you consider every single creative involved with each release. Frankly, people often forget they are a small company and not made of money like the BBC or Amazon. Infuriating tbh.

There is so much big finish stuff that it is expensive. Plus I just lost interest in it after listening to them for a decade or so. My issue is there was just too many releases and I felt the quality suffered as a result.

    • Jamie

      December 28th, 2025 - 11:07am

@ Missyrules yes but you don’t have to do every single release, pick and choose. I’ve been listening a decade and I can honestly say without a doubt 2025 has been of their most consistent years for quality. Modern BF is phenomenal with releases like Genesis of the Cybermen, Hooklight, Planet Krynoid and Torchwood releases.

    • Adam

      May 1st, 2026 - 4:44pm

BF lately has been incredible honestly it is WELL worth the money. How do you think they are supposed to pay the writers, directors, actors, sound designers, composers, cover artists, script editors etc? Its so well priced considering all who have to make profit from it. 2025 was one of their best ever years as Jamie says. Its not being made of cash to do BF thats absurd, download only is cheaper and also pre ordering gets a discount as does bundles. They’re a company which is small not the BBC they need to make a profit.

      December 27th, 2025 - 10:32am

Its designed so you can do whatever you want to get a full story, but you get the most from it if you do them all. Take TLV or Doom’s Day you can do just the audios, or just the books, the comics and get a story from them without needing to do everything. Albeit it was more the case for TLV than Doom’s Day but even still.
