The fiftieth anniversary of the world’s longest running science-fiction show looms ever closer and the New Zealand Mint are ready to unleash their third coin release in celebration.

After the successful release of the silver Tardis coin and the 250-mintage gold version, attention turns to the Doctors themselves with this fancy 12-coin release showcasing the actors that have played the role within the tv series continuity, (so no Peter Cushing, the movie Doctor).

The set compromises a large replica of the Doctors famous pocket fob watch into which are placed 11 of the 12 coins, all of which are 1/2oz of 0.999 silver. There is a space left to put in Peter Capaldi’s Doctor later on when it’s released next year.

It looks very well done at this stage, and with a mintage of just 3,000, likely to be a quick seller. In addition and of great importance to collectors on a budget, or with interest in only a couple of the actors, a release of 1,000 of each of the coins, individually packaged will occur simultaneously.

This is what the whole set looks like. For better images of the individual coins, have a click on the 11 tabs lower down the page. Each proof-quality coin is 1/2oz of 0.999 silver, 32mm in diameter with a milled edge. They’re issued for Niue with a $1 denomination. Shipping from the end of the month.

About the Coin:
Doctor Who is currently the longest running and most successful science fiction television series of all time. Produced in Great Britain by the BBC, the programme depicts the adventures of a time traveling, humanoid alien known as the Doctor.

He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a telepathic travel machine that’s bigger on the inside than the outside, and outwardly appears to be a blue 1960s British police box.

can anyone help as i have collected a few of these coins and the edition numbers don’t work out cos if 300 limited edition number belong to the the fob watch collection then, they are releasing 1 thousand of the singular doctors coin to collect so can anyone help me understand how my collectors coin numbers are in the 3 thousand and something and another ones number is 2 thousand and something when there is only supposed to have been 1000 of them released singular.
    thanks

There on the New Zealand Mint site now, the coins are available as a set or separately, separately they cost about £42 plus postage and as the set they cost about £368 plus postage, expensive but they look worth it to me.

I think these are the best anniversary merchandise i have seen, if nothing else £42 for a 50th memento of “your Doctor” is pretty good

I agree £42 isn’t too bad for a memento of your Doctor and there decent 50th anniversary merchandise but when you consider the price for the Danbury Mint sets at £10 per pin for the 60 pin collection and £20 each for the 13 deluxe enamels but when you add postage to the £42 it does put the price into perspective, although I admit I will probably get them myself cause the set looks good to me

That’s a lot cheaper than I expected it to be, I though it could be upwards of £1,000

And at only 8mm smaller than the Tardis coin, that’s actually really great value

WOW! These really are incredible! The weeping angel on 11’s coin look a little cartoon-y but I am sure they put lot’s of effort into them all. My favourite is 7’s coin. I am really considering getting them but not sure I will

Superb set – with the exception of Davros, whose likeness is POOR. They need to address this, albeit on a small coin, the mouth is plain wrong and his cheek jowls much too high… if I were the BBC I would not license that degree of inaccuracy – a pity as it lets down an excellent set! 🙂
