But why couldn’t the meta crisis doctor be the valeyard trying to steal the doctor’s regeneration s

Because the meta crisis doctor couldn’t regenerate. He was essentially human hence the reason the doctor leaves him with rose. He was supposed to just live a normal lifespan from what I remember. So he couldn’t be the valeyard as he doesn’t look like the valeyard, he couldn’t change his body so couldn’t become the valeyard and he’s in another dimension.

I don’t mean this in an ‘I hate Jodie’ manner at all so please no one take it that way but as this is the first piece of merchandise I’ve seen which lines them all up together she doesn’t half look odd standing there amongst them. Doesn’t look to fit well at all. I think purely because her style just looks so different. Particularly as we’ve not had a colourful Doctor in so long!

She looks great with the others not odd at all just more colourful than the rest of the newer ones. It’s great to see a full line up of all the Doctors together!

Mixing 56 years worth of actors pictures into one shot is tricky due to quality issues with the older photos but this is done quite well.

It’s funny, I wasn’t keen on capaldi when I first saw his stories on broadcast but I enjoyed him more when I watch the DVDs now. I think for me I expected a more mature dignified doctor with him being older but he was a bit childish sometimes for me. But he’s still a great actor and as I say I enjoy his stuff more on rewatching.

I think he was a brilliant choice and 12 is my favourite doctor

I think she looks a bit odd because she is the only one wearing a coat lighter than her shirt and trousers, 5s coat is still a darker colour despite it being bright, and, with the exception of 7, all the other doctors are wearing darker clothes, especially their coats, otherwise she fits in ok

6 would stand out the most if you could see more than his face. Nothing is as costumey as that.

We need to get a Tardis go back and take more photos of the old cast as they were back in the day. Funny how the old production teams never realised they would need to take millions of different photos of the actors for some distant future use they had no concept of at the time. Short sighted yes, I’m I joking…yes.

I’d rather have these old photos than the horrible paintings we got on the old VHS covers!

I think this looks much better than some of the recent years’ calendars. As Daz says, there aren’t millions of pictures of the old Doctors so we’re lucky at least some of them haven’t been seen before.

John Hurt’s War Doctor still being overlooked I see.

Am I misremembering the events of the Day of the Doctor? Didn’t he earn back the chance to be called the Doctor again?

So why does he keep getting ommitted from official line-ups of the Doctor? Especially by manufacturers.

oops, just noticed him peering out from behind Paul McGann

      May 17th, 2019 - 11:56am

I think some see him as a one story Doctor and not even a proper Doctor which is a shame because if you know your Who he is actually in the line up of Doctors offically and the makers of this clearly don’t get that.
Eight is a one story Doctor techinically but he is never missed out.

Whoops I just spotted him on the Eighth Doctor page too lol, he should be on the front tho!

Eight had an “era” no matter how short. War was essentially a guest star. You might as well ask why the Valeyard or Metacrisis haven’t got months.

I agree his doctor needs to be acknowledged more. It’s time he was included more in the group photos. We really need more war doctor short stories, novellas and books! My biggest bugbear is that when capaldi was announced they should have just called him the 14th doctor. Matt Smith in time of the doctor confirms he’s actually the 13th and last doctor, taking about the war doctor and tenth’s use of a full regeneration to heal his body. Jodie is the 15th doctor and yes I know that there is an argument that the doctor has 14 faces therefore there are 14 doctors but Jodie underwent her 14th regeneration at the end of twice upon a time to become the 15th doctor.

Badwolf359 the following is only my personal opinion, no offence or lecturing is intended. Just trying to order my thoughts on a subject that the powers that be/creative team/writers seem to enjoy doing to confound the expectations of the fans of the series. They really seem to enjoy muddying the waters in regard to the Doctors’ personal history. Causing no end of discussions, theories and debates – sometimes quite heated.

I’d put the Valeyard in the same category as the Watcher ie I agree that he’s an ‘inbetween’ version of the Doctor, so not a full Doctor so obviously no separate page in the calendar.

The Metacrisis Doctor – presumably meaning the regenerated/repaired/healed full Doctor rather than the ‘grown from my hand in a jar’ human version. Technically the same Doctor twice, with the same personality (and face) played by the same actor but again not really needing two separate calendar months.

I’m uncertain about the argument that 12 regenerations = 13 Doctors simply because of the Metacrisis Doctor. Regeneration was triggered, which usually results in a full regeneration of all cells, a change of face and personality but the Doctor never was one to follow the rules. So was it a regeneration or simply a repair job (that had enough energy left over to create another full grown (albeit human) body)?

I’m simply undecided, so for now I will follow the official designation of who can be called The Doctor, with the proviso that the War Doctor (after all, ‘Doctor’ is in his description as well) should also be a bit more prominent than he currently seems to be. Even his later incarnations acknowledged him as a (The?) Doctor again.

Also, does the extra 13th month on a 12 month Calendar explain why it’s a ‘Special Edition’ ? 😉 or perhaps the manufacturers are following the Doctor’s lead and bending the rules to suit themselves? Does Gallifrey have a 13 month year (or a 12 month year with an occasional leap month)? Should we have a 13 month year (with 30/31 days each) …:-)
…of course it could all just be a typo error and lack of proof-reading!

The metacrisis dr is not an incarnation of the doctor it’s essentially a human version created by the leftover regeneration energy combined with the doctor’s severed hand the Donna’s DNA. The valeyard is interesting as the impression I got was he wasn’t an incarnation of the doctor but a separate amalgamation of the doctors dark sides that occurs between his 12th and final incarnations. Note that, between not 12th or 13th but between them. The doctor had 12 regenerations which he used by Matt Smith’s doctor. 1 was the original body, then from 2-8, war, 9,10 healed 10 and 11 making 12 regenerations and 13 lives until given an unknown number of regenerations by the time lords. The watcher is a projection, not a actually regeneration, just like cho-je or the various forms romana takes (makes more sense they are projections otherwise a supposedly intelligent woman has wasted a whole bunch of lives!) The difference for me between valeyard and war is that the war doctor is a doctor you see him regenerate from 8 and then into 9. The valeyard trying to steal the doctor’s regenerations makes no sense as without the doctor living his lives the valeyard wouldn’t come into being in the first place. To be honest I never thought the valeyard made any sense anyway. The other side is that the only real evidence about the valeyard comes from the master, not exactly a reliable source. As far as I can remember the valeyard never actually confirms his origins. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Most calendars are actually 13 months, going from December to December of the following year.

Anonymous, 12 regenerations equals 13 doctors because the first regeneration is from the original body into the second body. So, 13 bodies, 12 regenerations
