Doctor Who Star Tales Hardcover

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

To celebrate the return of Doctor Who in early 2020, BBC Books will publish a unique collection of name-dropping historical adventures inspired by Jodie Whittaker’s first series as the Doctor. Doctor Who: Star Tales is out 5th December 2019.

The Doctor is many things – curious, funny, brave, protective of her friends… and a shameless name-dropper. While she and her companions battled aliens and travelled across the universe, the Doctor hinted at a host of previous, untold adventures with the great and the good: we discovered she got her sunglasses from Pythagoras (or was it Audrey Hepburn?); lent a mobile phone to Elvis; had an encounter with Amelia Earhart where she discovered that a pencil-thin spider web can stop a plane; had a ‘wet weekend’ with Harry Houdini, learning how to escape from chains underwater; and more.

In this collection of new stories, Star Tales takes you on a rip-roaring ride through history, from 500BC to the swinging 60s, going deeper into the Doctor’s notorious name-dropping and revealing the truth behind these anecdotes.

The book will feature 6 brand new stories, detailing the Doctor’s untold adventures with famous figures in history – Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, Harry Houdini, Amelia Earhart, Albert Einstein and Pythagoras, written by Steve Cole, Jenny T Colgan, Jo Cotterill, Paul Magrs, Trevor Baxendale and Mike Tucker.

I’ve enjoyed all the other short story collections such as The Twelve Doctors of Christmas, but if this only 13th Doctor stories then it’s not something i’d be interested in.

I’m not much of a reader, but this does look like an interesting doctor who novel. I hope they release an audio book of this.

Ok but surely these would have had to have occurred during previous incarnations? So why’s 13 on the front

They may be stories of past doctors told to Graham, Ryan, yaz by the current doctor. Cover is stunning so I’m happy with it anyway!

Because someone has to be and it’s a hell of a lot easier than putting all 13 (14 if you also include the Hurt Doctor) on the front cover. It would be ludicrous to put anyone other than the 13th Doctor on the cover. Also, for all you know, the stories could all be framed by the 13th remembering her past encounters with these people to her companions before going into flashback.

      She’s the 15th doctor, 14 regenerations making 15 doctors

Ten didn’t regenerate, he aborted a regeneration to keep the same face once his body had healed, thus wasting it.

      13 Doctors
      14 Incarnations / Faces
      14 Regenerations

Matt Smith’s doctor confirms it was a regeneration in time of the doctor.

I love these sidestep, Short story Books. Its a brilliant idea, and one that was used very well, for Matt Smith`s Doctor, with 4 Stories on Christmas (Time of the Doctor) and The American Adventures Hardback for Peter Capaldi`s 12th.

I suppose with A Tardis, these could be 13th Doctor Stories, inbetween dropping off The Fam.

this makes zero sense, I assume that the current doctor meets all of these people, but Yaz, Graham and Ryan are with her for all of her adventures, it is also impossible for these to be set before they meet. I suppose it could be her telling of the stories her previous incarnations had with these characters.

Of course, it could be the stories are set in her future – she may travel alone later on. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey? After all, stranger things have happened…

It’s doctor who. It never makes sense. Part of the whimsy and joy of the show. 🙂

250 pages so more likely similar to missy chronicles etc.
