In the aftermath of To The Death…

An epic, box set adventure, taking the Doctor on a desperate journey through space and time.

Part One. The Great War – The Doctor is heading to ‘the edge’ and beyond. But the Time Lords have other ideas. On Earth, during the First World War, Molly O’Sullivan works hard as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nursing assistant. How can her destiny be bound up with that of the Doctor’s?

Part Two: Fugitives

With the first objective of his mission reached, almost nothing is going to plan for the Doctor. He finds he cannot contact or return to the Time Lord’s home planet, Gallifrey. And just when Molly O’Sullivan thinks she’s escaped one conflict, she finds herself in the thick of another one.

What is it that connects the Doctor, the Daleks and the mysterious Ides Scientific Institute?

Part Three: Tangled Web

Something happened when Molly O’Sullivan was just two years old, and the Doctor thinks it’s high time they found out exactly what it was.

Meanwhile, the Daleks are fully activating their Temporal Chamber. And while the Doctor and Molly get closer and closer to the terrible truth, the nature of reality itself seems to be in question.

Part Four. ‘X’ and the Daleks

‘Subject is called Molly O’Sullivan. An inhabitant of Earth. Born Earth year 1891. Has travelled in space and time with Time Lord known as the Doctor.’

With Straxus and his TARDIS destroyed, the Doctor and Molly have tracked the mysterious ‘X’ to the planet Srangor. It is here that the truth of the threat to the universe will finally be revealed.

What is the Dalek Time Controller’s ultimate plan? What exactly is the space-time projector? Who will survive this epic battle for survival?

Just finished listening to this, was only going to listen to a bit of the first story but ended up listening to it all! It was brilliant, my favourite part was probably part 2, Fugitives. Already ordered Dark Eyes 2.

Isn’t it a bit strange having the Eight Doctor in the Ninth doctors leather jacket, and is that the Ninth Doctor’s sonic screwdriver – I think the long awaited events leading into the Time War have are finally upon us.

They are not the 9th Doctors atall.

The jacket is a different shape and colour, the sonic is also diffrent being made of wood so it looks more steampunkt.

The last part was right though

      November 11th, 2012 - 4:02pm

The jacket an the whole look is certainly in the style of the ninth doctor though. It’s undeniably something he would wear.

The 8th Doctors jacket on the cover fits in nicely with the established continuity of his final comic-strip adventure in Doctor Who Magazine called ‘The Flood’.

He took the jacket he got at the start of this incarnation from TV Movie by taking it off while on board a Cybership hovering over London, and after the ship is destroyed, he says to him companion destrill “Ive just realized, I’m going to need a new jacket”, “yeah, maybe something in leather” proclaims Destrill, as a nod to the upcoming 9th Doctor at the time 😀

Well it is the latest the Big Finish range has ever gone into his era.

A while ago in an interview in DWM, Nicholas Briggs mentioned they have the intention of buildigng up to the Time War, but have no plans of covering it or going beyond it (ie into the Ninth Doctor’s era or beyond) with exceptions only in certain circumstances (such as the Leela Companion Chronicles which are set post-Time War).

Dont forget its the 50th anniversary next year. Look at the Dr’s costume, resminsent of Eccleston’s coat dont you think? Perhaps this is leading to some big event in the 50th anniversary where either Big Finish or the BBC do cover the time war and are allowed to dramatize the regernation from 8th to 9th Doctor. something us fans have longed for since 2005….

Yes, I have imagined how great the 50th anniversary would be if Paul McGann was the Doctor on-screen, in his new outfit.

It would be the 8th Doctor in his later years, obviously. But I don’t think Christopher Eccleston is willing to play the Doctor again. ❗

Why are they not allowed to change the 8th Doctors outfit ?, we only ever saw him wear what he was wearing the 1996 TV Movie, which it seems he later wore throughout his 8th incarnation in comic-strips and such, but if one assumes that these audio adventures take place during the final years of the 8th Doctors life, then there’s no problem with that.

    • Jason doctorwhoone

      July 7th, 2012 - 7:07am

Plus a new jacket for the 8th Doctor fits in with continuity in his life, cos in his final DWM comic strip appearance [The Flood], he lost his old coat by accidentally leaving it behind on board a Cybership and it got destroyed. His realizes shortly after the ship is destroyed, saying “Ive just realized, I’m going to need myself a new jacket”, and his companion Destrill says “Yeah, maybe something in leather” as a nod to the 9th Doctors jacket 😀

      July 7th, 2012 - 7:09am

Toby can’t play the Dream Lord in these audios, as they take place long before the 11th Doctor.

    • McGann is th Doctore

      October 26th, 2012 - 10:01am

I believe the Dreamlord and the Valeyard are two different entitys.

The Valeyard was created during the future Doctors regeneration, and was the physical emobidment of his darker side, were as the Dreamlord isn’t exactly real, and is an embodiment for the Doctor’s self-loathing. ❗

      Two different things ! 😉

  • 4thDoctorFovever

    July 5th, 2012 - 5:19pm

Yes finally a new set of audios with Paul McGann’s doctor! and it only costs £20! talk about a bargain 😀

Also the new costume looks fantastic!

However I’m not sure they should be doing daleks agian? seems to soon since (in chronological terms) they had appeared in To The Death.

However looking foward to November 🙂

I can’t wait to get this, but… why isn’t the Doctor wearing his costume? And the gap between To the Death and The Great War must be huge, the Doctor looks older. And is that a new series sonic I see? It definitely isn’t the Eighths.

That is Toby Jones playing a character named Kotris.

Big Finish doesn’t have the license to use fictional elements from the new series. That doesn’t stop them from using actors. 🙂

No, the actor who played Clive played another character in Energy. New Series Actors can appear in Big Finish just not as their NS characters.

It’s a play on words. Possibly refering to both at the same time, or possibly a red herring refering to WW1 and another war entirely (not the Last Great Tiem War).

      July 5th, 2012 - 12:53pm

Big Finish does not have the license for any Nu-Who stuff, which includes the Time War. That’s why there’s no 9th, 10th or 11th Doctor audios produced by Big Finish.

    • Anonymous

      July 5th, 2012 - 11:48am

They have the licence to it, there were changes to the rules recently meaning that the Ninth and Tenth Doctors are now considered “classic” by BBC Worldwide and by getting a licence for the first eight Doctors you get one for the next two as well.

They have mentioned in the past that the series is now heading towards the Time War, so they may mention at some point the Daleks changing their design, but as it hasn’t happened yet in the audios they may still be sticking to the older one for now.

    • stewie

      July 5th, 2012 - 8:36pm

Because those are the daleks that the doctor is encountering in this particular tale
