BBC Studios / Propstore Children in Need Auction

February auction to benefit BBC Children in Need

BBC Studios today announced a partnership with film memorabilia specialist and auction company Propstore to launch an online Doctor Who auction in February 2025 to benefit BBC Children in Need.

This is expected to be the biggest Doctor Who props and costume auction to date and follows a record 2-lot auction to benefit BBC Children in Need which ended today on Doctor Who Day. These two lots earned the charity £12,000 for Kylie Minogue’s costume from the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned, and a record £11,000 for the TARDIS used by the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, in the 2022 New Year’s Day special Eve of the Daleks.

The February auction will include around 150 lots, bundling props and costumes from the 60-year history of the much-loved sci-fi TV show spanning the Tenth to Thirteenth Doctors eras. The auction will include primary costumes from all four Doctors, Weeping Angel Statues; a Traitor Dalek; and a 50th Anniversary TARDIS. Fans from all over the world will have pieces of TV history at their fingertips and bidding for many lots will start from £100.

Launching next February on the Propstore website , the proceeds from the BBC Studios auction will go to BBC Children in Need, the BBC’s UK charity for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Vanessa Hamilton, Doctor Brand Director, BBC Studios commented: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Propstore for this incredible auction. Doctor Who holds so much history and memories for fans around the world, we look forward to giving fans of the iconic series an opportunity to own a piece of TV history and support BBC Children in Need in the process.”

Stephen Lane, CEO, Propstore commented: “We’re delighted to partner once again with BBC Children in Need for another incredible Doctor Who auction, building on the tremendous success of our November live TV auction event. With over 150 unique items available at a variety of price points, there’s something for every Doctor Who fan out there, all while supporting this extraordinary cause.”

On 23rd November 1963, the very first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast in the UK. To celebrate Doctor Who Day – 23rd November – fans from around the world were treated to a host of exclusive Doctor Who content, including messages from Ncuti Gatwa and Nicola Coughlan who will appear in this year’s Christmas Special, deleted scenes from season 1 and for the first time, a full episode of the show will be streamed live on the Doctor Who YouTube channel where fans can join a ‘Boom’ watch-a-long live from 7pm GMT/11AM PT.

Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios. The show will return on Christmas Day BBC One and iPlayer simultaneously in the UK and outside of the UK on Disney+ where available for its special ‘Joy to the World’ starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor alongside Nicola Coughlan, as Joy.

These big props may be out of the price bracket of most fans, but owning screen used props isn’t only for the super-rich. Sure, owning a TARDIS or Dalek may be, but there are plenty of smaller items out there.

I have quite a large collection of screen used props that I’ve acquired over the years. Smaller cons can be a good source, local charity auctions, other collectors and eBay have all helped me grow my collection over the years. When Bad Wolf moved to their new base they sold a lot of items to ‘BBC staff’ for very little which has seen a flood of items come onto the secondary market – and on eBay right now there are some very unusual and rare Classic era items.

I’d say owning screen props is very doable, but be aware … it’s quite addictive!

unless you have £1000s to blow no chance of getting anything i expect. I remember them auctioning red dwarf stuff years ago they had rimmer’s hardlight blue outfit for less than £100 i wish i had bought it as it was always my favourite outfit of his sigh.

oh for sure, this is gonna be for the rich people. suppose it’s fine since it’s a charity auction but it is a bit sad I’ll never be able to get my hands on any screen used props. that’s just how these things go.
