Doctor Who The Other (War) Doctor 5″ Figure

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk

The ‘Other Doctor’ is the Doctor’s dark chapter, an _hitherto unknown incarnation whose existence he has spent centuries repressing, a secret he wants no one to know of.

He is a relic of the past, part of the great Time War, when he spent centuries fighting alongside his fellow Time Lords against the Daleks and made the final decision to end it with a desperate act that cost that incarnation the right to use the name “Doctor”.

This haunted and battle-worn Other Doctor is finally forgiven after helping find a new solution to end the war, giving the Eleventh Doctor a new purpose as he heads into further adventures.

Probably not. Forbidden Planet are (hopefully) stocking it in their warehouse on Tuesday and will ship the preorders out from there that day. So you should get it from Wednesday-Friday.

I FIIIIIIIINally opened mine this morning, and he is FANTASTIC! the flesh tone isn’t as tan as the pictures above (so thats good), the chest still seems a little bulky (but thats ok) his scarf is removable, his hands are molded closed, the sculpt in general is amazing. The McGann head looks neat. I’ve put it on a spare 8 body I had lying around so now I have a long and short hair 8 in my collection (it fits well and is the right proportions, I’m not sure if it’s intentional but it works all the same).

The bandolier is a little silver for my tastes (same as above though) and I was hoping for a hole for his sonic, but there isn’t one. That’s ok, not complaining, just incase anyone else was wondering about it. So that’s my thoughts after a few hours of fiddling with him. I love this piece, and if you have it on order or are thinking about it, get excited!

My one (petty) gripe is the bandolier. The Eighth Doctor did not put it on until after he regenerated into the War Doctor. It would have been nice if the bandolier was removable.

Don’t worry about such things: they will surely make a proper 8th Doctor body to use this head with 😉

As long as they produce a 5″ Capaldi Doctor, a late-period[Victorian clothes] Smith Doctor, and a Clara, I’ll be happy. The 3.75″ Clara still doesn’t look quite right – her neck is far too thick – and the quality of the paint apps seems to have dropped a long way. I’ve got 3 Doctors, and have had to repaint the faces [especially the eyes] on all of them.

This figure is incredibly good. The John Hurt sculpt is fantastic, the detailing on the costume is very nice and the Moment accessory may be a hollow piece of square plastic but it’s pretty impressive. The 8th Doctor is a nice addition, as well.

It was maddening.)to even open the shipping box it came in so I can’t comment on sculpt/paint/etc, but just knowing it’s under my roof is a good feeling!

Haha, naw, I have to wait until sunday. My Wife made a bet saying I’ll break and open the shipping box just to have a look at it so I need to prove her wrong. She just can’t be right ALL the time! It’s an annoying yet satisfying exercise in will power. I WANT TO SEE IT SOOO MUCH!!! *ahem*… It’s ok, I can wait…

Can someone explain to me why some figures are underground toys, and some are character, and some are fp etc etc.

    Reply
    • booboo

      March 3rd, 2014 - 9:49pm

they are all manufactured by Character, who hold the licence to make them, but some, mostly the classics are commissioned (which means they are funded basically ) by underground toys and in a few cases forbidden planet.

underground toys seem to have an exclusive deal with forbidden planet in the UK although they are essentially a USA distributor.

This would make a good 5″ set:

    11th doctor
    Clara Oswald
    Zygon
    Kate Stewart
    Bad Wolf Girl
    10th doctor
    The other doctor

REALLY IMPORTANT: I just spoke to Forbidden planet Shaftesbury Avenue asking about new dw figures. They couldn’t answer my question but directed me to Characters number. I spoke to the guy from Character and he said: “although it’s not been made official, it’s very likely we’ll continue making the odd 5″ figure like Capaldi etc” YESSSS!!! (This was yesterday!)

is that the odd 5 inch figure from the new series or odd five inch figure from new AND classic…… the ‘odd’ classic figure sounds like the continuing slow demise of the classic range to me…

    • CG

      March 2nd, 2014 - 12:45am

Great, I would love the occasional 5′ figure espicially doctors and companions, not worried about monsters. It also would be good if they made everything 5′
but I dont think thats going to happen.

    • Dr Who Society

      March 2nd, 2014 - 12:46am

I think character already confirmed a permanent continuation of the classic figures, but I’m just hoping for more modern 5″ toys

      March 2nd, 2014 - 12:41am

I agree with you Korsair Peter Cushings role in 50th anniversary has been even more overlooked than the classic era… A Peter Cushing figure and a replica of that smashing saucer from the second film – it should be the first release in a doctor who equivalent of the star trek ship collection….

The Cushing Doctor is a different licence to the TV stuff, which is why we’ve not seen any movie Daleks from CO. Last time I checked it was held by Product Enterprise, (but that as a couple of years ago, so it may be up fro grabs).

I have every single doctor figure (11 doctors set and soon the war doctor), assuming they don’t bring out a 5″ capaldi. do u think its a bad idea to by the one of him that’s 3.75 inch with his crombie coat in September? (I don’t collection 3.75 inch figures, I have clara)

Yes, at 2014 toy fair, it will be 3.75 inches, and although it will be released in September, it will probably be shown online earlier.

no idea, put down the weather last I heard yet the 3.75″ have arrived ahead of their quoted release date (infact they seem to have arrived when the war Doctor should have)

These Underground toys items tend to get announced months ahead of their release so i would always take dates as an “estimate”
