The Creeping Death ASDA Exclusive Vinyl LP
Following the sell-out success of Big Finish Productions Doctor Who stories on vinyl in 2018, the audio company has announced another exclusive collaboration with ASDA supermarket.
ASDA will launch Doctor Who: The Creeping Death starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate on Friday 24th May 2019. It will be released as a Limited Edition run of 1,000 copies on neon green vinyl – only available in the UK.
London, 1952, and a deadly smog envelops the capital. But something even more dangerous – and alien – is hiding within the mists. When the Doctor and Donna get lost in the fog, they find a motley group of Londoners trying to make their way home. Soon the stakes are raised as death creeps along fume-choked streets, and not everyone will make it out alive…
David Tennant portrayed the Doctor on screen from 2005 until January 2010, returning to star alongside Matt Smith and John Hurt in the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, in 2013.
Catherine Tate made her debut as Donna Noble in December 2006, and after a series and two Christmas specials, she made her last appearance alongside David on the 1st January 2010. Their on-screen partnership is generally regarded as one of the great high-points of the enduring Doctor Who phenomenon.
The Creeping Death, written by Roy Gill, is one of three stories in the latest volume of the Tenth Doctor’s audio adventures. Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume Three (Limited Edition) which is also being released in May.
Roy Gill said: “Being asked to write for David Tennant and Catherine Tate was already a huge thrill, but how awesome to hear The Creeping Death will be getting a vinyl release too! I think this nineteen-fifties tale of a band of London misfits against whatever-it-is that lurks in the smog will work beautifully on a neon green LP!”

Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume Three (Limited Edition) is available for pre-order now as a five-disc CD collector’s edition – limited to 5,000 copies – in deluxe bookset packaging for only £35, with the download version for £25 (available on release).
Big Finish Productions is a production company and publisher who produce audio CDs, downloads and books. Best known for its range of Doctor Who plays (with its many spin-offs), Big Finish also produces a wide range of audio drama and audiobooks featuring the characters from Blake’s 7, Dark Shadows, Captain Scarlet, Callan, The Avengers, The Prisoner, Survivors and The Omega Factor, as well as classics such as HG Wells, Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, The Phantom of the Opera and Dorian Gray.

May 30th, 2019 - 7:50pmWanted to put out there the surprisingly good service I got from Asda Customer Services when I called them – I’m autistic, so going to the supermarket full stop is a major issue for me, but we were advised to call their customer services for help.
By the time I managed to get through, local stores had already sold out, but they kindly checked a store near where my brother works (a good sixty miles away!) and agreed to put one aside for me/him providing it was collected by 9am on the Saturday. He had no issues picking it up and the staff on the phone were very patient and did what they could to help. Very unexpected given my less than stellar experiences with Sainsbury’s.
PS – to the person saying the prices settle down – I can’t find a copy of Infamy of the Zaross on vinyl anywhere, eBay, Discogs etc., no one seems to be selling it for ANY price, let alone at a (relatively) sensible price.

May 27th, 2019 - 4:20pmIt is an ASDA exclusive but neither them or Big finish can stop them being sold on the secondary market, especially as people have pointed out even if they limit to one per customer determined ebayers just have to take a couple of mates or go thorough the self service checkouts where no one will notice.
If they can not allow more than one through then fine but that may cause problems for staff and ASDA and other stores so they might think its not worth the hassle doing these releases at all in the future.
Its been going on for years its something people will have to get used to.
Also HMV sold theirs online so it wasn’t so much of an issue.

The only other way around it is to write to Big Finish and see what they can say about adding the stipulation that the LPs are sold in store one per customer. However, saying that, it may not be their decision to make.

So even if you can’t get the ltd edition, you can still get the record? I know there’ll be a cost issue but surely fans will pay a little more to at least have it? Demand is only so far and upping the quantities will only result in unsold or slow moving stock which in turn will lead to less interest from retailers.

Besides, what would they do, stop people at the counter and demand they return their extra copies? It just will not happen. The idea of an exclusive is that not everyone will get it, making it special. Like booboo says, this happens in many different shopping ranges. People just need to accept that not everything is going to be fair when it comes to merchandiase. It just is not how the world works

The point of these kind of ‘chase’ edition releases is about creating a buzz on social media to (for Big Finish) draw attention to their DW range as a whole, and (for ASDA) to drive footfall to stores – in the hope you might buy a few other things when you’re there and, if you’re not a regular ASDA customer yet, maybe like what you see of the store and go there again in future. Unlike direct sales of their monthly releases, for Big Finish the priority is not about making sure as many fans who wants one can get one – it really is about the scarcity and the bants it drums up as a result – an awareness raiser more than a money-raiser.

On a more serious note, they did drop the ball not having those filled in, it created the potential for people to get unsuspectingly scammed by someone selling the item marked 1/1000. Big Finish very rarely mess something up, and I think this is one of those occasions.

May 26th, 2019 - 12:13pmNot Big Finish`s problem. Demon Music replied, that this was LTD/Exclusive and was never numbered. Because other releases had numbers, people seem to have assumed ,for this release.
I was handed a copy and self serviced. At that time of the morning, there are few to no, tills open. also scanning the bar code, also deactivated the security Tag.
It is what it is. I feel very sorry for people with Disabilities,or no ASDA nearby, but The only thing that could help, if stores put stock out At 10am (set a time) ,but i can not see this working either. I am sure Store managers were perplexed at the sales of this, when they have huge artists still on the shelf.
