SDCC 2016 New 13 Doctors Figure Set on Show

Its that time of year again with SDCC 2016 about to start
Wednesday saw previews night between 6-9 pm, that’s 2-5am in the morning for people in the UK.
From what we can see nothing new was on show.
It starts on Thursday at 9.30am which is 5.30pm in the UK so no late night waiting for any information.
If anything is on show it should soon become clear.
The only Doctor Who items we know of so far are the 2 Titans, Ghost 12th Doctor and Glitter Tardis, Titan Comics, an electronic 20 questions Tardis, 5.5 “x 7” giant mug and Rory’s Story Cubes.
This year we have noticed the “exclusive” title has been dropped in many cases and replaced with “first to market” which means it is only sold there first.
I suspect all eyes (where Doctor Who is concerned) will be on the Underground Toys Stand where, assuming its on show, something “big” is coming (and no its not the mug)…

For example, tenth planet cyberman with spare parts, random dalek with jubilee, darks 8 with you get the picture

The three packs could cost more but they could use an enemy that already has an existing mould, as well as the Doctor which has an existing mould and 6/13 companions already have existing moulds. They would make more money doing it that way

July 22nd, 2016 - 9:45pmI reckon they are missing a trick with classic companion figures – Sell each one in a twin/three-pack with a repaint/rerelease Dalek or TARDIS (maybe a popular Doctor) and kids will go ‘It’s a Dalek/TARDIS/Doctor with a companion!’ and collectors will go ”Ooh, look, new companion – I’ll have to get that set with a rerelease figure” and everyone’s happy. The only classic companion that’s come close to this idea is the repaint Jo in the B&M set with the Doctor and Master.

They are more likely to do two modern sets and one classic (or like the monsters set and have classics that kids will think are almost the new series versions) as they’re trying to catch kids overall so need to do stuff that relates to them. The average 8/9/10 year old who-fan won’t know who Jamie is and won’t have as much interest in classic doctors as modern series doctors, whilst collectors will and I understand characters like Jamie are highly demanded figures by collectors, kids just won’t bbe interested so the set wouldn’t be viable, hence the reason as to why the first wave of the Collector’s series was only nu-who related.

July 23rd, 2016 - 8:09pmIn answer to Doctor 909’s comment: That is the reason why selling them with a Dalek/TARDIS/Doctor would make them more viable – Kids who know about the classic series will know that classic Doctors had companions of their own – for example, if they had bought the 13 Doctors set (When I was younger the only classics I bought were the Doctors in the first wave and the 11 Doctors set) they might want a companion and a Dalek to accompany their Doctor – If the figure is marketed as ‘Jamie – the second Doctor’s companion’ with a ‘Second Doctor-era Dalek’ I would have bought it to go with my own Second Doctor figure. Although you’re right, it would definitely cost more than £15 as a B&M set – it’s just an idea that could potentially sell to the mass Toys R Us market and gain more money for new figures.

July 23rd, 2016 - 12:16amI personally think this head sculpt is pretty good, plus it’s the 11th Doctor from series five (31) the newer sculpt we’ve seen on the rest of the 11th Doctor’s is from series 6 (32) and onwards. It wouldn’t have been accurate if they had used the newer head sculpt and people would just complain about that if had used it.

The season 33 headsculpt and costume is so much better than the season 31 headsculpt and costume.

July 22nd, 2016 - 9:33pmI reckon 5th would have Nyssa and Tegan (possibly Adric) and 6th would have Peri. I would without a doubt buy as many of those sets as I could before my wallet went bust. Personally I like to see TARDISes, Doctors and companions in my collection with common enemies like Daleks and the Master, and a few other assorted enemies. I’d love to have more recurring allies but not many of them get released (TBH I reckon releasing a Jackie Tyler figure instead of The Editor and Wilf instead of the Hath all those years ago would have made all the difference to where the range stands now)

July 24th, 2016 - 1:26pmI just consider the series 1 boxset to be a 9th Doctor 10 figure set. And with a War Doctor set there could be some Timelord and Dalek variants that allows children to create little Time Wars.
Also imagine if they made a 169 figure set with 13 figures for each doctor. It’d be awesome, but I don’t think it’ll fit through my door.

July 22nd, 2016 - 6:39pmAll in all, I give this set 8 out of 13, love the repaints, 4,5,8 and war, great re releases. To make this better, but still cheap to make, for the rest of the doctors i would have done:
7 (cream coat, tartan scarf, maybe colourful umbrella as accessory )
9 (same)
10 (spiky hair, no over coat)
11 (asylum re release, coat repaint)
12 (velvet jacket, obviously)

I do like this set, but I fell like they could have done lots of other things as well. I would at least like to think they had 1 or 2 other figures in the planning stages if not ready to reveal soon because I am getting bored of waiting.

Yeah some of the figures are possibly re releases but who cares the new variants make up for it and they are properly updated in some form.

July 22nd, 2016 - 5:18pmI’m happy with Doctors 1 & 2, over the moon with 3, happy about 4, 5 is ok, 6 is cool, 7 is a joke (coulda done a hat with solemn face variant), 8, war and 9 are good, but 10, 11 and 12 are disappointing. Overall I’m happy though.

Take the remembrance dr and repaint his scarf and umbrella, it would have been something new and good for those who don’t have the cream version of his costume

I’d still like to see another 2 toys r us dr/Dalek twin packs to complete the 13 Dr’s, war dr with a destroyed time war Dalek, and 12 with removable Davros.
Oh and the classic Tardis console, with lights, movement and sound.
