Scan Computers launches the Tardis PC System

Scan Computers launches the TARDIS PC

With thanks to www.scan.co.uk

Scan Computers is proud to announce that it is now ready to launch its latest PC system, the TARDIS.

The TARDIS, or Time and Relative Dimension in Space, has been Doctor Who’s favourite vehicle since November 1963, keeping him safe through a multitude of adventures.

The Scan TARDIS, which has developed in conjunction with UK-based design house Head Cases, has been officially licensed by BBC WW Ltd and is a scale model of the time-travelling vehicle. It comprises 45 pieces of individually cut brushed aluminium which are painted with the official Pantone blue colour of the original TARDIS, creating a faithful reproduction of the original TARDIS.

All the pieces are based on the original prop model and so recreate all the detail discerning Doctor Who fans would expect to see, from the blue beacon on the roof to the pewter door handle and period posters. The Scan TARDIS is 205 x 205 x 430mm so looks perfect on top of a desk or next to the TV in a living room.

The Scan TARDIS is now available to order from Scan Computers with a variety of specifications, starting from £935.99 inc VAT. The basic specification includes an Intel Pentium G2120 dual-core processor, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance 1,600MHz DDR3 memory, 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray reader and Microsoft Windows 7.

More information can be found at www.scan.co.uk

The Tardis PC…

  • High quality aluminium model matches official Pantone blue colour of the original Tardis.
  • Official BBC WW Ltd licensed product
  • Designed and manufactured in the UK
  • Exclusively available from Scan Computers
  • Handles and poster on the front door match original TARDIS (door does not open)
  • Includes DVD or Blu-ray drive hidden behind ‘Police Box’ sign

The TARDIS consists of over 45 pieces of individually cut brushed aluminium. Together they create a faithful reproduction of the iconic phone box, instantly recognisable throughout the universe as the Doctor’s time machine.

As well as looking amazing, this computer case has been carefully designed to offer as much attention to detail internally as externally. The internal dimensions are intended to compliment the components exactly. This in turn, allows for maximum efficiency.

The TARDIS case is more than shapes cut out of a sheet of metal. The roof consists of three individual tiers intricately folded, welded and fixed together. This creates the smooth lines that look so appealing to the overall appearance.

The side panels and front panel are individually pressed. This forms the recess panels and windows, giving greater detail than would otherwise be available. The side panels are created to allow for easy access to the internal workings, by the ability to slide in and out.

When all the pieces are fully constructed they form three main parts – the roof, the optical drive housing and the main body. Central in the roof is the beacon which is pivotal to the integrity of the structure. It acts as the on/ off button, but also acts as the screw that holds the structure together.

The finished design (which when sold will be the classic, identifiable blue) is a highly desirable, innovation award nominated case that is sure to be a talking point in any room.

I want to buy just the cabinet. Does anybody know where I can, or if it’s possible to even find? I have laying around an extra ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Thermal Armour 1155 slot with matching Intel Pentium i7-3770K mounted with the best ‘be quiet!’ fan that fits on that mobo, without blocking access to any of the slots, along with 4 x 8Gb RAM cards, which is all exponentially better that what they are selling this PC with. Please!!!! Put the cabinet on the market as a stand-alone item.

I don’t believe the company makes this computer or it’s case any more sadly!

Yeah! the basic spec sucks, so I have maxed mine and yes, even then, I could have got a better spec in a more conventional PC. But, the case looks gorgeous and with the Xtra spec it is a dream!

      Graham,

A year on would you say your purchase of the Tardis pc was worth it, I’m concerned about noise levels could you advise at all please?

    definitely not worth the price
sure the case is cool but the hard ware is nothing you can only fit the bare minimum in there i mean come on it only fits a mini itx MB and you cant use a higher powered cpu or graphics card because the airflow is going to be restricted the hard ware is worth $617.89 CAD(~394 GBP) from newegg with shipping and tax(and some equivalent parts) would at most add $400 for a super custom built case like that the most you can ideally use it for is a media computer oh and it comes with no peripherals so add $200+

Very cute! Most of the cost is the case, yes. These sorts of cases are very expensive (and rare actually. Most ‘novelty’ cases are modifications of other cases, not new ones built from scratch).

Unfortunately the size/shape of the case seems to mean that it will only fit a micro ATX motherboard. This plus the restricted airflow means you can’t put a particularly powerful computer inside one of these. (Which is a shame, since enthusiasts would love something like this).

But if you just need a basic computer and love Doctor Who… awesome. 😀

Most of the cost is probably in machining the aluminum. And then the rest of the cost is markup because fanboys will pay ridiculous prices to get the latest doodad.

Absolutely gorgeous. Just the case would be nice, or a very basic cheap dated internal build to give it functionality, but not be actually be used like everything else in my collection.

Saw the link: was super excited.
Read the performance and saw the price: disappointed.
I bought my system for the equivalent of 200 Pounds Sterling with everything this unit offers minus the Blue Ray optical drive.
If the case were available separately, I would order two immediately and have them shipped over here to the great white north (Canada).
Until then, cool case, and good luck.

This! Getting Who stuff in Canada is still not great, I’d love to get the case and add my own componets, rather than be stuck with a rather meh machine. It would be perfect for a living room media pc though.

The case should seriously be sold separately – I spent half as much on my new computer which is nearly twice as powerful in every regard!

I would want it but its really not a very good computer is it? I have an old computer that puts this one to share and it was cheaper to buy than this one, way back then. I could build a much better one for that price with a Tardis and all.
If I can build one in a joack o’lantern I can put one in a Tardis, loo.

Imagine taking this some place to get repaired, and they ask you “Ok, why have you brought this Police Box model into our store ?, this aint a computer !”.

Cos a part from the back where all the cables and stuff go, it just looks like an ordinary Police Box model.

Thats why an unrelated company sells TARDIS USB hubs.

I’m personally working on the TARDIS keyboard and TARDIS Mouse. Both are very uncomfortable.
