Figurine Collection Magazine Companion Set #10 8th Doctor

This three-figurine box-set unites the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) with Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) and one of the Master’s Dalek allies from the Big Finish audio plays.

The Eighth Doctor appears in more-informal attire than his debut TV Movie appearance, with satchel and sonic screwdriver. Med-tech Liv Chenka is dressed as she appears on the cover of Big Finish drama Dark Eyes 2 (below). The accompanying Dalek features a different colour scheme to those seen in the TV series, with blue hemispheres over a grey shell.

I think they’ve only planned 5 box sets at this point in time, prior to series 12, and my guesses are a 2015 rassilon (a painted prototype has been shown), missy, the rani and an inquisitor or a 2013 general

Got mine today little sad as the doctor and liv were completely snapped off their bases the doctor is not as bad as we have slotted him back and glues him to the base. Liv however was snapped through middle of the feet on each one and trying to glue that one now. Just make sure you check carefully when opening your parcels. Really like the dalek 🙂

Yeah I popped them an email bit expensive to just accept broken ..but I’ve been a collector of all doctor who eaglemoss ranges and I’ve had 4 broken characters since the start in like 2013 so given the volume were at now and how fragile they are I’d say that’s good going and they always replace them for me no complaints 🙂

Also let me just say 12 console is my fave item in this range to date it’s absolutely stunning

In regards to damaged figurines. Having watched how my DPD driver threw boxes around the back of his van looking for mine I think when packed they are most likely fine. It is the transit that kills them.

But agree that some more quality control is needed in regards to the paint application.

      Hi Daz,

Yes I think it’s a mixture of being chucked around in transit (DPD driver yesterday chucked the second box for me to catch!) and damaged items being sent out. I’ve had a couple broken but the pieces have been missing from the packaging so must have been packed that way.

Quality control has always been a bit of an issue. Of course these are mass produced items but they should at least match the product images used to sell them. It should not be a lottery whether you get a decent product.

Having said that I love this collection and having figures like the Voord, Daffodil Auton, Mandrel and Nimon is just fantastic!

yeah i think mine must of been chucked about as soon as i opened them 2 of the bases just fell off it’s happend 2 other times from memory as well always by DPD the monthly ones delivered by royal mail or always fine.

They are great with replacements so I can’t fault their Customer Care. Yes they take a while to come back on email, longer now due to pandemic, but I’m very happy with the range.

Only got this one for the dalek so I’m selling the other 2.

Can’t wait to see what Dalek and Console’s are next. We are spoilt compared to when I was a kid and it was just Dapol figures.

One thing apart from DPD. I wish they would use bubblewrap in the boxes instead of the air pocket things. My console popped one during transit.

What glue have you used as my Azal one of his hands was snapped off I’ve tried loads of different glues and it won’t stick and my rare Dalek 9 embryo technician Dalek scoop was snapped in 3 places I’ve been waiting for a replacement since the day it arrived I phoned EM on day I received it still waiting now tried to glue that aswell it stick either

      June 21st, 2020 - 7:40pm

      Hi Crosby,

I had the same issue with Azal and I used a very small amount of super glue gel which bonded the join well after holding it in place for a wee while. It does require a very clean break and I had to sand the join very carefully and touch up with paint. Also got a replacement after a while so as they didn’t ask for the damaged one back I repainted the spare to add more detail and shading.

You should get your Dalek eventually. I waited over two years to get a replacement Mechanus Attack Dalek!

      Good luck!

Bumper delivery today in three separate deliveries!

The 8th Doctor and Liv set I think looks good in hand although the paint application is not great…a bit of a problem with these figurines. The sculpts can be let down by the paint finish. Fantastic Dalek though!

Twelfth Doctor’s console is a lovely model although there is no removable plastic cover and it still clearly states there is one on the site description.

Latest two figurines plus a binder arrived too! The tribute to Paul Condon is very touching and the Angel is a great sculpt. Although I know many really like them I still think it’s slightly disappointing there have been so many variants of late in the main range when so many classic monsters/characters have yet to appear at all. Sorry for moaning but I miss the excitement of a monster we’ve never seen released in any form before! Hope the collection gets another extension.

      June 20th, 2020 - 5:03pm

I’ve just noticed mine is broken as well! Didn’t see it until I took it out of the box. It’s a very clean break from the base so I’ve glued it back on as I really can’t be bothered with the hassle this time.

However to get a replacement I would send them an email with a photo of the damage first and then phone customer services to follow up. You shouldn’t have to return the damaged set (I’ve never been asked to) but you may have to be patient. It can take a while but they will replace eventually.

Unfortunately I’ve had quite a few arrive damaged and the First Doctor Companion Set (colour variant) was badly broken and still waiting on a replacement for that one!

Hope you get a replacement soon!

Does anyone know if Companion set 9 will become available again? I’ve got an outstanding order with FP but so far no sign of them getting it to me. I’d love to get it, (a) to get a complete collection, and (b) because that dalek looks absolutely fantastic.

@ The Ergon…… has it really been 5 YEARS??
Wow! ‍♂️… Where has all that time gone? I rewatched all of Capaldis era and realized he was gone too soon! I wish he would have done a couple more seasons at least. (Just my opinion…not trying to make any Jodie Dr. fans mad). His speeches were some of the best acted I’ve ever seen in Doctor Who. Well……We have
Him on film forever at least!

Yeah capaldi did love his speeches didn,t he? Makes me yearn for Clara more as well even if her death was a little overdramatic (shown from all angles and in Slow mo). Shes still out there travelling with Lady Me the long route round. Maybe one day in the not too distant future they could talk Maisie and Jenna to take time out from their busy ubiquitous schedules and slot in a couple of boxsets worth of unseen adventures.

Quite a while back there was talk of how they could do a Pting figure (as it’s so small) any advancement on that?

I thought it was abandoned because of how small it actually was that it wasn’t an effective figurine

    • Judooning

      May 8th, 2020 - 6:15pm

I know they said that about the Adipose, but I thought Neil said they had worked out a way to do the Pting. But maybe it has been abandoned

    • The Werewolf

      May 8th, 2020 - 7:30pm

Ben Robinson (I think it was him) showed an image of the Pting figurine in a message stating that it doesn’t look right an the figure is cancelled. They are however considering a large scale Pting, which is disappointing to me as I refuse to buy larte figurines of small characters, which is why I’m not buying the Dobby from their Harry Potter collection either.

    • Judooning

      May 8th, 2020 - 10:07pm

A mega issue of the Pting? Hmm. I mean I’d buy it but that’s a surprising choice. After watching a review of the mega Dead planet Dalek, I am tempted to purchase that and the Davros. I hope we get a classic Cyberman of some sort in the range.

    • Gareth Pugh

      May 9th, 2020 - 11:05am

Judooning, the ‘way to do the Pting’ that Neil C of Eaglemoss was exploring – I believe – was to have it standing on and/or holding a large-ish piece of furniture or ship’s junk in an ‘about to wolf it down’ pose; and that’s what the photo of the mock-up he shared was – I think he was stood on a chair IRRC. But as The Werewolf says, I think the comment was ‘this doesn’t really work after all, so we’re probably not going ahead with it’, at least at the 1:21 scale. The photo he shared looked like a very rough mock-up, possibly scratch made with modelling clay etc, so I’m not sure it got very far down the development process?

      May 9th, 2020 - 12:47pm

Thank you both. It’s a shame but I can understand if it doesnt look right. I’m getting hooked on these figurines lately. I subscribed back when they were first released but sadly had to stop for quite a while so missed out on a large chunk and never bothered collecting again. But now I’m slowly going down the back catalogue and trying to get them all. It’s just nice to have a collection with such variety

      May 11th, 2020 - 10:49am

They should just release a character from the episode and have the pting/adipose at their feet…

Is Mr. Corry hinting with Bonnie? I,d love to have her in a pose with that RPG. Just finished rewatching season 9. I,m enjoying it more third time around. ‘Sleep no more’ still my weakest link from that year.Wheres those five years gone?

How does size make a difference for the Pting and Adipose? The Beast was a giant & the Minotaur towers over the Nimon figure and they still got figures.
