At the local hospital, Dr Grace Holloway fights – and fails – to save his life.

BFI Screening for this already confirmed, date TBA, but definitely in May as the April programme is out and there is no Doctor Who on there and is very booked up for the month, we’ll see it in May! Only leaves 2nd, 9th, or 16th, and very doubtingly 23rd, or 30th.

    @SV7

Unfortunately this is a common manufacturing issue when it comes to 4k as an overall system, please see this video that best explains the glitching; https://youtu.be/oXFhoQQBWbo?si=t8zDUuZxpDSWNoz4

I too own a 4k player and experienced this exact same glitching with several 4k discs, of which were all brand new, opened out of the cellophane and played straight away. This issue also isn’t limited to layer changes and is not limited to any specific brand of 4k player. This is well known to be consistently happening across Panasonic, Sony, Lg 4k players, and all kinds of different studio manufactured discs – even many recent brand new printed Blu-rays are having complete freeze ups, depending on the studio, and the film, but again just to stress, that’s more to do with very recent Blu-rays of the last few years and not prior Blu-rays before them.

Ultimately it could be any one, or more elements in your setup – the player or any of the 4k discs. All the major brands simply stopped releasing their players let alone modifying or adjusting them to mitigate these sorts of glitches, maybe in part because physical media was at an all time low thanks to the popularity of streaming – but in the last two months alone that pendulum appears to be swinging back the other way, and demand is already rising for 4k players to be remade and re-released back onto the mainstream electronics market, if that were to happen then I would expect for the quality of both 4k players and 4k discs to be better checked and these severe quality creases to be properly ironed out – because as the gentleman in the YouTube video explains, why go through all of this needless effort and huge financial investment in 4k media when you’re having to constantly fix and refix it just to (if you’re lucky) bring it up to the convenience level of a Blu-ray / dvd player that was much easier and carefree to use many years ago?

Re-posted from the Ask a Question page:

Has anybody else had issues with the 4K Blu-ray Disc of Dr. Who and the Daleks released back in 2022? After recently buying my first 4K player, I watched it last night for the first time on 4K. Everything was fine until the 40 minute mark when the picture started freezing for about a second or so, and then started up again. I rewound it a few seconds, and problem solved (it seems). Looking online, it appears likely that this is a layer change.

However… The Dalekmania documentary is freezing continuously as is the original trailer and the interview with Gareth Owen. The other special features appear to be fine.

I have the steelbook and the limited edition set, so of course the first thing I did was try the other copy of the 4K disc, and it has the same issues with struggling to play the special features, in exactly the same places. Is this a disc problem? I should also mention that the discs are absolutely spotless, I would even go as far as to say they are in mint condition.

I should mention that the standard Blu-ray Disc works fine. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Also, my 4K player has the most recent firmware update, so definitely not that. Frustrating thing is, it plays DVDs and Blu-rays fine, but 4K seems to be problematic.

Disappointing as I know that 4K discs are notoriously faulty but I didn’t expect to encounter problems the first time properly watching one.

Also, my Daleks’ Invasion Earth 4K disc has exactly the same problem! Dalekmania freezes every 4-5 seconds even though the audio is unaffected.

This surely has to be a wide spread problem?

No problem with my disc, have an older Panasonic 4k player.

If the symptoms are across several 4k discs (you mentioned the same issue with the special features on two different titles), and you have a new player, and DVDs and Blu-rays play fine it sounds like a player issue. It would seem to be the transport/laser diode (which reads the discs) is out of alignment, especially since DVD and Blu-ray have more tolerance than finicky 4k discs.

I would get it checked out and repaired/replaced whilst you have still have the warranty in place.

I just tried and the two titles you mentioned and they play perfectly fine on my Panasonic UB-820 and Oppo UDP-203.

      Hope that helps

Thanks for the advice Things that go bump, I’ll see what I can do.

Just double checking, you did try the Dalekmania doc on both discs? That’s the main thing I noticed a problem with. The actual movies on the 4K discs play fine (the layer change has been seamless bar the first time)

@ SV7. The Dalekmania doc, whether on the 4k disc or the blu-ray disc, from both titles, played fine on both of my machines.

      Hope that helps

Has there ever been any statement on whether the Collection range would ever do a wilderness years set or tangible hint at the likelihood of it?

No statement but Pete mctighe did say at gallifrey one that certain features from the time period have been deliberately left off for an obvious reason and said to draw your own conclusion.

I think this movie release has pretty much confirmed a wilderness set is going to happen at some point as there’s no in conversation with Matthew sweet with McGann. I think that’s why McCoy is the face for this release and McGann will be for the wilderness set.
It’s fine with me as I’ve pre ordered the 4k as I’m certain that a 4k disc won’t be in the collection set. Plus a wilderness set will have a lot more like 30years in the tardis, scream of the shalka and maybe even shada with mcgann.

    • Tom Williams

      February 20th, 2026 - 10:46pm

My opinion the steel-book art for the front could be a hint maybe what wilderness years would look with mcgann with the watch then the bottom the master with Sylvester etc unless they edit the art work and changed it by then

    • Tom Williams

      February 20th, 2026 - 10:49pm

Also would this mean we could get maybe the master from the movie finally as a figure or Sylvester McCoy from the movie ?

    • Scotel

      February 21st, 2026 - 3:55am

Eaglemoss released an Eric Roberts Master so it was possible. And for Character specifically, they included the Master’s urn from The Movie in their recent Ainley set.

    • Gareth Pugh

      February 21st, 2026 - 9:35am

And Character Options did a TV Movie 7th Doctor for a B&M set a few years sgo (budget didn’t run to a new head sculpt so the hair is too short and the burgundy waistcoat ends up being a burgundy repaint of his jumper, but the jacket, tie and trousers are Movie-accurate.

    • Tom Williams

      February 21st, 2026 - 12:44pm

@gareth pugh I remember that set tbh as used too have it but wouldn’t they ever be able too change it atleast with the hat ? Like they did with 7 dr and tardis set would especially be good if they did finally release this again as a b and m including finally a 8th dr and tardis alike one

    • Scotel

      February 21st, 2026 - 2:46pm

I’ll refer you to the latest Al Dewar interview on Youtube. The classic TARDIS tooling is not in the best of shape, it’s broken and been patched together several times already.

That range has had it sadly.

    • Tom Williams

      February 21st, 2026 - 2:58pm

Not true as we did have the b and m tardis ones that came out but was smaller sizes range from most the drs ones it would be ideal if they used the pink tardis even with the 7th doctor etc as it wouldn’t involving alot off tooling too happen

    • Scotel

      February 21st, 2026 - 9:08pm

“The classic TARDIS was a good example because it has broken several times. Quite catastrophically broken but been welded back together so every time everyone says ‘Can we have an Eighth Doctor TARDIS?’ I go ‘No’. If it keeps going it keeps going.”

The last time B&M had a classic TARDIS was in 2023. If they are trying to keep costs down it’s very unlikely they’d take the risk of using tools that are fragile from years of constant modification and certainly not undertake a big job like the Eighth Doctor’s TARDIS using it.

If it was an online exclusive (like the Fugitive Doctor set) or a modern TARDIS (like the Fifteenth Doctor TARDIS set) then fair enough, but it’s an incredibly risky prospect for a line on a tight budget.

    • Tom Williams

      February 21st, 2026 - 9:24pm

Absolutely wrong we had the small tardis come out last year remember which was part off b and m even others would agree with me as they was the small range versions including the small daleks where realised so its got nothing too do with the bigger range i was referring too either

    • Tom Williams

      February 21st, 2026 - 9:28pm

This year so far we had no other b and m sets yet which was recently said on another post especially and was supposed too have tardis set at some point as rumoured with character themselves which dont forget we get vortex sets that still come out like we recently had tegans one

    • Scotel

      February 21st, 2026 - 10:14pm

Are you talking about Master Replicas range? That’s a completely different manufacturer and has nothing to do with the 5″ range. They just sell their products in the same shops. Sure Master Replicas could absolutely do an Eighth Doctor’s TARDIS, but those don’t come with a figure.

To the best of my knowledge there haven’t been any reports yet as to what’s coming in B&M this year and the few details we have heard were about modern era figures they passed on.

    • Jerry

      February 22nd, 2026 - 9:29am

Last year, B&M released the 15th Doctor’s TARDIS which was just a repaint of the 13th Doctor’s TARDIS which itself used the Classic TARDIS mould, albeit with a new roof. I’m not an expert on the subject but I don’t really see why they couldn’t do something similar for the TV Movie TARDIS.

To be honest, my main concern would be which figure would be included with it? They already did an 8th Doctor figure re-release not too long ago. Perhaps a more screen accurate 7th Doctor, although that would likely make it a website exclusive rather than a budget B&M release.

    • Tom Williams

      February 22nd, 2026 - 2:54pm

Thank you jerry thats what i was actually stating myself it doesn’t have too be a b and m alone as we did recent have Tegan as a vortex exclusive theres nothing stopping character too release the other master atleast or something related too the tv movie as they could just the gala time lord s robe etc and just a new head sculpted mainly

I’ve ordered the 4k steelbook version.

Thought I’d get that since we don’t have much opportunity to have Doctor Who in 4k, especially if it’s a new scan from the 35mm elements. The last (and only) other 4k release was ‘Twice Upon a Time’…

I wonder if this will sell out quickly?

Money never left my account as quick. Not a steelbook lover myself but no doubt in this case. The simple 4k restoration is enough for another copy to own, but that artwork is top class, alongsidenew bonus material. Will defend this movie to the day I die, can’t see the criticism myself and McGann is brilliant.

I suspect most of the new stuff is: Sylvester McCoy and Janet Fielding featurette.
3 New Featurettes with Daphne Ashbrook, Eric Roberts and Yee Jee Tso. The more I suspect will be things like night of the doctor, tomorrows times, stripped for action, who Peter part 2 and the 8th doctor revisited. There doesn’t seem to be a sign of collection staples like behind the sofa and in conversation which to me suggests they are probably saving those. They may also include that 90s the collectors episode they teased on the 80s episode on season 25. Would be nice if they could include McGann shada to make this set as complete it can be

I figure this means that a possible Wilderness Years Collection set is at least a couple years away as they would want this stand alone release to have that 18 month window to gets sells first.
