Doctor Who The Complete Series 6 Steelbook

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

Also available to order from www.zoom.co.uk and www.zavvi.co.uk

The Doctor returns, alongside newlyweds Amy and Rory, to face monsters and mysteries and adventures all across time and space. Together they find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren.

In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon’s Run, and the Doctor’s darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord’s soul? Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die…

To anyone whose got their copy, I’m assuming these still include the American remasters of the episodes that suffer from a bit of slowdown?

Well it’s arrived. The box is gorgeous as always, but disappointingly the discs are identical to the original blu ray set, who does mean you’re paying only for the new box.
On the positive side, this is a 6 disc set. Series 7 was issued as a 5 disc set, which leaves scope for Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor to be included on one disc, which can bring season 7 to a six disc set when/if eventually released in this range.

I would hope if they were to include Day/Time of the Doctor they wouldn’t put them on one disc. To make it worthwhile for those who bought the 50th set they’d need to either miss off the specials altogether for an individual steelbook, or include the whole 50th collection set as part of S7. I’d personally prefer an individual 50th Anniversary steelbook with Name/Night/Day/Time, An Adventure in Space and Time, and the other extras released on the original. It’s the only way you can get AAISAT on Blu-ray currently. So it would be nice to give others who didn’t get it the chance to own it at a much less expensive price point.

Hi Dr Pond. I’d have to disagree. AAISAT makes the 50th set unique and is not necessary to season 7. Day and Time are (and Night). It would make absolute sense to include them on S7.

They could also add death of the doctor, if they were doing a specials Steelbook for Matt.

Mine never came on Saturday from Zoom which is unusual but perhaps they get sent out from there dispatch centre or picked up by Royal Mail at different times regardless of what the dispatch email stated as there automated which could explain why some get them different days.?.
Anyway mine did turn up today so very happy a lovely steelbook and hopefully your get yours today as well.

My copy arrived this morning, and it looks beautiful. Shame that they didn’t change the disc artwork to match the previous sets though. Not reducing the amount of discs is one thing, but it seems a bit lazy not to have them match the others…

I also got mine today and the amazing thing about it is my order has to be shipped from the UK because its the best version of Amazon to use if you live in Ireland. Luckily my country has this amazing thing called Address-Pal where you can register with the national postal service and have all your UK and US orders be sent to there sorting office and have it shipped to you for a good price dependent on its weight, very reliable service. Its best used for stuff that the seller won’t ship outside of the country its in but its also good for everything else from abroad because it arrives quicker, no damage. I’m hoping there is some re-release for seasons 1 and 9 because those ebay prices are mad expensive.

Ive just recieved mine and im definitley gonna start watching it today but i cant believe we only have 2 more steelbooks left to get (maybe 3 because i hope they release the 2013 specials on a seperate steelbook rather than just being added into series 7) of the new series before this range is complete but of course they should continue to release the current series thats on tv in steelbook form

No doubt they will do upto 10. I expect 10 will include Twice Upon A Time too as a bonus disc.

Series 11 onwards might be redone eventually. There is a market for Limited Edition Steelbooks.

I’m really enjoying the steelbook range of re-releases. Saves space and looks great

Now. If in about 7 years time. If they decide to do a Collection range similar to the Classic Seasons set’s in the limited edition packaging with behind the sofa and new features would you buy them again?

And would you then sell the steelbooks?

    I know I’d be tempted.

I prefer disc too Rob W.

With my player and 4k screen which upscales too the episodes old and new look much better than their streaming counterparts.

I can’t see the bbc ever putting all the special features, commentary tracks etc on a streaming service either.

Steelbooks should hold their value or increase as there is a collectors market for them (not just Who) whereas the standard cases prices will flatline.

It will no doubt be new art as they are always limited editions. I hope they continue upto whatever Series we are on at that time.

Also hope 50th Anniversary has it’s content re-released in full on DAY/TIME set. Even with a spare disc tray for those who have the 3D version of Day so can all be stored in one place.

I love the Series 12 steelbook art but imagine that will get a new version too. If it wasn’t for the lack of extras and £50 price point I would have bought it just for the artwork.

Completely agree. Season 3 and 11 are the odd ones out! 3 had the wrong artwork originally so they just edited the master out of the front cover leaving a blank space where jack could’ve gone. They should’ve used better artwork for Martha. Compared to all the other steelbooks, season 3 is the most disappointing. There was so much potential for that season. They could’ve done the toclofane coming through the cracked red sky on the back and Martha jack and 10 on the front. That definitely needs a re release. And I agree about season 11…what happened to the artwork with that steel book???

I really like this design! Although I wonder if this is just a copy of the original Series 6 release? I’d love it if Doctor Who at the Proms 2010 was included as it wasn’t on the Series 6 box set, only the Christmas Carol individual release. I do think they miss a trick with some of these in not including everything that’s available! They did that with the Specials but none of the others so far!

I have a feeling that series 7 will be just that and the steelbook that follows will be labeled 50th anniversary specials and basically a repackage of the bluray/dvd limited edition set with Day and Time of the Doctor, Night of the Doctor and An Adventure in Space and Time. However i would be happy to be proven wrong.

    • O

      June 26th, 2020 - 1:16pm

Yeah, I’d prefer this rather than just a straight re-release of S7, especially given that it’s only an extra two episodes (or three, if you include AAiSaT too).

    • Anthony

      June 26th, 2020 - 1:24pm

It may only be two episodes but these episodes have always been sold on separate discs so either the BBC will have to repress the disc so both specials are on a single disc. Or do a 7 disc set which will be bulky. Not sure how they are set out on the US sets but for the UK it would make sense for a separate steelbook with all the extras included. Which is another reason to repackage the limited edition set onto steelbook format. This is the BBC we are talking about here. They will want to cut as many corners as possible

    • MJS

      June 27th, 2020 - 7:25pm

Anthony, the condensed the s5 set from 5 discs to 3 for the steelbook reissue so there is a possibility

    • Anthony

      June 29th, 2020 - 10:22pm

MJS. Yes but the point you are missing is, even though series 5 was condensed it still used discs that were already available in the Matt Smith boxset from the US. So yeah its possible but at this moment in time I don’t see it happening and going by what discs I know are out there its unlikely for me. If the BBC keeps using the discs from this set series 7 (which already is padded out BTW with two specials) makes it a 4 disc set. So add the other two brings it to 6. But there’s enough content to put into a specials steelbook so. Besides why waste an opportunity to get us to pay more money which let’s be honest us collectors will. I’d buy the specials in a stand alone steelbook.

Why on earth would you want less discs per set? Blu Ray is supposed to show these stories in the best quality available and by adding more stories per disc the compression is going to be worse which results in inferior picture quality!

Since Blu-Ray holds more space than DVDs it makes sense to utilise it, and means you don’t have to get up as often to change the discs. I know of US TV series that manage to fit 22 episodes across 4 or 5 discs, without noticing any major decrease in quality.
