October 8th, 2021 - 8:43amGlad I got a move on and pre-ordered my copy ASAP. 🙂
Tom
October 8th, 2021 - 11:24pmNope – still coming up listed as “Temporarily out of stock.
We are working hard to be back in stock as soon as possible.” and no option to pre-order.
Tom
October 9th, 2021 - 2:04amI worked it out – I put in a delivery postcode in the UK and it comes up available as a pre-order. I’m in Australia. So it’s geo-blocked to non UK customers (but Amazon being Amazon doesn’t want people to know they geo-block so they say “temporarily out of stock, uh we are working hard etc etc absolute BS).
So I’ll have to go with Zavvi and have my set posted inside a 1mm thin plastic bag.

October 7th, 2021 - 9:32pmPre-ordered, I was expecting this to be announced this month. Shame Tom and Lalla aren’t doing behind the sofa
Hi
October 7th, 2021 - 8:16pmI think the next box sets are
2022-Season 9, Season 15, Season 22
2023-Season 1, Season 4, Season 5, Season 11, Season 16, Season 20
2024-Season 2, Season 6, Season 7, Season 13
2025-Season 21, Season 25
2026-Season 3
Chris Maile
October 7th, 2021 - 8:20pmI think you’re being a bit optimistic for 2023 – I really can’t see 6 sets being released in 1 year, even if it is the anniversary
Coleman
October 7th, 2021 - 8:28pmNot only that, theyll probably leave the early stuff untill last to make sure most of the missing episodes are animated.
D84
October 7th, 2021 - 8:42pmAgreed Chris, 3 or 4 per year is the max we will see (just my own opinion)
Seasons 1, 4 and 5 all have further animations to do before they can be released (1, 2 and 2 stories – with Abominable confirmed but not confirmed as yet) so I think S4 at least will be a bit later down the line.
I’ll be a very happy whovian once I have all 27 sets sitting proudly on my shelf though.
I hope that the B&W sets are held back until the animation for that season is complete. If they do Wheel in Space (along with Abominable) they S5 is ready to go. S1 and 2 are also almost there as is S6 so a little focused effort and joined up planning could get those over the line in the next few years
Chris Maile
October 7th, 2021 - 8:58pmNot just your opinion D84 – Mark Ayres has previously said that 3 or 4 releases a year is the realistic expectation.
I also agree that the B&W sets shouldn’t be released until the missing episodes are animated and I believe that is the intended plan anyway.
Gordon
October 8th, 2021 - 12:43pmThey struggled to get 4 a year out in 2019 and that was done to establish the range. Going by both what Richard bignell and mark ayres have said 3 a year going forward seems most likely depending on the seasons chosen. Speculation on my part but I’d imagine if they do some of the black and white seasons (1,2 and 6 comes to mind) we might only get 2 a year due to how much more additional work they would be. 3,4 and 5 should be a bit more simpler to restore everything once they have the animated gaps filed in and if they continue restoring the audio and visuals for blu ray like they done for web/evil/galaxy 4
MIKK89
October 8th, 2021 - 1:31pmI think to space it out, BBC could look into releasing the New Series as Collections, so that they could do maybe 2 Classic Seasons and 2 Modern Seasons a Year (though doing the modern years would be better in chronological order and maybe including the 2009-2010 Tennant Specials with Series 4, ‘The Day of The Doctor and ‘The Time of the Doctor’ With Series 7 [‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ included on the Classic Runs 1st Season Boxset] and ‘Twice Upon a Time’ on Series 10) maybe adding the Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood too…
At least it would give them more material to spread out and imagine the special versions of stories that the Classic series had, what if BBC offered us the chance to see ‘The End of Time’ as an uncut 2+ Hour Movie Version…
Auton
October 8th, 2021 - 1:53pmI think the classic seasons should be done first before any new series gets done as sadly we Don’t have forever to get all the interviews and special features done as the cast and crew are obviously more older than the new series cast and crew so it’s only logical to finish the classic series before moving on to the new series.
MIKK89
October 8th, 2021 - 3:55pmI can see that from the seasons aired between 1970-1988/9 (I don’t include Season 26 as it has already been released) but if it gives them more time to cope with the Black and White seasons with Hartnell and Troughton, It could help expand the release time so that the animation studio gets a bit of breathing room to reanimate other missing episodes/stories…

October 7th, 2021 - 5:52pmAmazing news (even though it was rumoured), one of my favourite seasons with city, nightmare (updated effects will make it even better) horns and shada (great there is now a 6 part version like how it would of been broadcast if it had been) being some of my favourite stories. All the stories are so fun. Well done Gordon for guessing the in conversation with Bob Baker. Great to finally have a making of for Destiny of the daleks and another documentary for creature. Wish there was a making of for horns of Nimon but there’s already a great commentary and an interview with the writer so it’s not the end of the world. Love the idea of an interview with Tom Baker about random stuff and more interviews with Lalla ward is always good. I’m really looking forward to this set it’s going to be great!
Rory
October 7th, 2021 - 5:11pmObviously I’m having this.
Why do they persist in adding the folds to the front of the case in images, when those just aren’t there?
Shane McEntee
October 7th, 2021 - 6:35pmOne of these folds exactly like that is on the back of one of my sets and I’m not sure why. I did drop them once so maybe it folded in on a pre-made guide. I think it can fold that way if you force it but I’d rather keep it pristine.
Coleman
October 7th, 2021 - 6:54pmThey should be on the back of them all Shane, it’s an opening crease.
Rory’s on about why are they always on the front of the box of these promotional images when they should be on the back.
Shane McEntee
October 7th, 2021 - 11:33pmYou’re right Coleman it is. It’s jist far more prominent on my Season 26, I never noticed it on the others
Coleman
October 8th, 2021 - 11:07amHi Shane, I think it’s abit of a pet hate with some people.
Im not sure why the crease is always on the front on these promo images though..
They do it every single box set recently. Lol.
Pete X
October 9th, 2021 - 3:48pmIt’s a standard digital layout for all of the releases. All of the promo images have the same layout of box (closed and open), booklet and discs. Although the arrangement of discs varies with number, those Collections with the same number of discs have the same disc layout.
Generating a promo image appears to be a “mail merge” of the artwork and the correct template for the number of discs.
The template might have been generated when the Collection was first being floated as an idea, used in the Season 12 promo and not changed because the change to the box which put the fold on the back occurred after the release of the promo.
Alternatvely the templates may be from the company who create the boxes.
Either way, changing the template now might cost. And, regardless of that cost, what would you rather the money and time spent on – fixing a minor promo error or content?
Prof Horner
October 7th, 2021 - 4:44pmThe big question is will it be released when they say ,or will as I suggested last week , come out in January. Given none of them have come out on the date they originally said. Great cover as always.

October 7th, 2021 - 4:09pmWonder if they managed to squeeze more studio footage out of the City of Death tapes?
It took the restoration team ages to get 20 minutes on the original DVD.
Apart from Shada, I don’t think there’s much studio footage left from this series….so no sweary Tom
Rex Farrel
October 8th, 2021 - 1:27amI hope we get all the Shada studio footage this time, but they normally mention stuff like that on the press release, so I’m not hopeful.

October 8th, 2021 - 7:15amShada does have two disks so it’s likely
DanielM
October 10th, 2021 - 7:55amI do hope that they are able to include most of the Raw Footage from Shada. I remember back in 2017, Charles Norton said he wanted to include it all but it would have required an extra Disc. If Season 24 is anything to go by, they should be able to have most of it on there as the total Footage is about 4-5 Hours from what I know. It might really depend on how much space there is as there is already 3 Shada’s being included. (1992,2017,2017 6 Parts)

October 7th, 2021 - 4:09pmThe Creature from the pit.

Erato
October 7th, 2021 - 6:51pmErato loves this set, and he’ll even offer personally autographed copies signed with his enormous green appendage for a small extra cost.

October 7th, 2021 - 6:57pmIn Definitely in Erato. lol
Rex Farrel
October 8th, 2021 - 1:29amI’d have put Erato on the front cover. Maybe they just didn’t have a good enough photo…

October 8th, 2021 - 11:48amI think Having Erato on the front cover would make this boxset PG 18

October 7th, 2021 - 3:53pmGood news – I look forward to this arriving mid January!
Coleman
October 7th, 2021 - 3:52pmOuch, my poor wallet.
Doesn’t that cover look great though.
D84
October 7th, 2021 - 3:47pmExcellent. My pre order is in already. Trailer is great as always and looks like a great selection of extras and spruced up episodes etc.
Another excellent release, keep them coming please BBC studio’s, “only” 17 more to go to complete the “classic” series (if you include a Wilderness set)
I am still hopeful, even if it’s a few years off – that NuWho will receive the same treatment
Haza14
October 7th, 2021 - 4:41pmSo do I! I’d love to see new Who get boxsets like this too! Even if it’s after all the classic series sets have been released. Would love to see the HD seasons upgraded to 4K maybe too! There’s so much potential content for new series sets!
Kevin225
October 7th, 2021 - 8:31pmI would love to see this continue to cover Nu-Who, but at the rate they are being released (and I acknowledge the huge effort that these take to produce) I wonder if any physical releases of this type will be hideously expensive in 5 or so years time (if they are even produced at all by then).
Coleman
October 8th, 2021 - 11:54amThat’s a good point Kevin225, that not many people talk about, will these Collection sets be even viable by the time they get to Nu Who. Will they even be Viable by the time we get to Seasons 1 to 6 with all the work involved in upgrading these old films to Blu ray.
I know Booboo mentioned along time ago digital down loads are the future and physical copys will be a thing of the past.
Auton
October 8th, 2021 - 2:00pmI’ll always still be happy to buy physical releases in the future. It’s so much better than just having the download
Kevin225
October 9th, 2021 - 10:05pmAuton, I completely agree with you, but I feel that we will be part of an ever decreasing group of people. I suspect that physical releases will be practically non-existent as they won’t be economically viable to produce in < 5 years. I hope not though, but we are fast becoming dinosaurs!
Doug Who
October 7th, 2021 - 3:45pmDeliriously happy! I was expecting this announcement but not so quickly!
My favourite series and ‘Shada’ in six parts…at last! Wonderfull! Looks like the usual excellent set of extras. ‘Doctor Who’ was never so much fun as this.
Fabulous trailer too. So nice to hear David Gooderson again and what a difference the right modulation on his voice makes.
Can’t wait!
the ergon
October 7th, 2021 - 4:22pmHave they modulated his voice for Destiny? i always felt that was the main problem with goodersons Davros he lacked that manic rasping grating voice that wisher had. He tried too hard and sounded too human. He never scared me at all.
i bet the updated effects for nightmare are great. The original effects were ropey and will give the story a much needed boost.
I,ll just settle for the DVDs until that standard Bluray set release.
Even Colin loves the ‘Meddlesome hussy’ remark. Great stuff.
Coleman
October 7th, 2021 - 5:28pmSoon as I heard Colin say that I thought of you ergon, I’m sure you commented on that in a previous post.
Doug Who
October 7th, 2021 - 5:41pmHi Ergon,
The modulation for Gooderson’s Davros was inconsistent and often too low and ‘whispery’ (I’m sure Nick Briggs could tell me the technical term!) making the voice too human sounding. In the new trailer it’s much more in line with the ‘Genesis’ voice.
Andrew Orton on Youtube added much better modulation and it makes the performance much closer to Wisher’s and much the stronger for it I think.
Don’t know if they’ll do it for this set!
I thought the ‘Nightmare’ models shots were ok but not as good as the model work for others. I always thought the Williams years featured some of the best ever in the ‘old’ series and lots of it in this set!
“Meddlesome hussy!” is a great line and Adrasta one of the best villains ever. The late Myra Francis is fantastic and I remember the twist when she’s killed off early!
I am SO excited for this set! Can’t possibly wait for the standard release!
the ergon
October 7th, 2021 - 7:38pmYes Doug those special Effects won,t seem as special by mid 23+. Only 26, 14, 8 and 24 before we get to this. i,m wanting those 4 out by the end of next year latest. Yes coleman it was in response to Gordons dislike for the story and in particular Graham Crowdens ‘hammy’ performance. I thought it was all the funnier for it, the comedy is partly why i love Doctor Who so much. Toms unexpected entrances always make me laugh. The scene where the doctor crawls in between the guards legs in abrupt fashion through the opening electronic door to the captains bridge in ‘The Pirate planet’ a particular Highlight ‘We must find the Doctor’ Hello, hello, I,m the Doctor delighted to meet you, heard so much about you….. ‘seize him’ or in this sets city of death when hes roughly manhandled by the counts henchman ‘i say what a wonderful butler, hes so violent’. Tom knew how to deliver those great one liners so well.
Louise Romana Wade
October 7th, 2021 - 3:38pmCity Of Death in HD!!! I’m going to be there for that. Also, my middle name is relevant for the whole season.
Haza14
October 7th, 2021 - 3:36pmVery exciting! Great trailer too! I haven’t seen any of these stories yet so looking forward to getting this! Great that Shada is included! Hope all goes well with no problems! And maybe, maybe, out before Christmas too! Haha

October 7th, 2021 - 5:15pmYou are in for a treat. So many good stories, and Horns of Nimon.
Timelord63
October 7th, 2021 - 3:35pmDoes Zavvi take payment straight away or on dispatch like Amazon?
Coleman
October 7th, 2021 - 3:59pmUse Amazon if your not sure Timelord63.
They won’t take payment until despatch, Great packaging and you’ll receive on release date if not before.
Gordon
October 7th, 2021 - 4:17pmThey don’t
the ergon
October 7th, 2021 - 4:38pmNot speaking for the limited Editions but for The standards i always seem to get a quick delivery with HMV and similarly as quick for the animated releases I use Zavvi. Evil arrived a few days before release date.
Gordon
October 7th, 2021 - 3:30pmReally happy with what they done with season 17. Amazed at the amount of new features.
Doug Who
October 7th, 2021 - 6:42pmCouldn’t agree more Gordon! It was unimaginable not that long ago that they could do any more with the series but these sets are simply incredible. To have season 17 with an episodic ‘Shada’ is glorious!
I wish Graham Williams was still around to experience the love for these stories after all the endless carping he had to endure from the humourless types in DWAS at the time.
no name
October 7th, 2021 - 3:26pmGuessing that the Shada with McGann is not included?
Children of davros
October 7th, 2021 - 3:31pmWell presumably as it’s not part of season seventeen
Gordon
October 7th, 2021 - 3:32pmThink that will be held off for when they do the wilderness years stuff. It fits better there as that will probably have the TV movie and other bits and bobs connected to it
Louise Romana Wade
October 7th, 2021 - 3:37pmIt’s possible. It was included on all other DVD versions as a bonus extra, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be here.
Kenny
October 7th, 2021 - 3:55pmI agree that it will likely be held off for the Wilderness Years set. Having as much McGann material together in one set makes sense, and as that set could very well have all the webcast animated material released together in a set, it just makes more sense for that version of Shada to be there with Real Time and Death Comes to Time and Shalka.
