Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details
Doctor Who Regenerations box set
With thanks to BBC Worldwide…
Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013
The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.
The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.
The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.
Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.
A full list of stories included on the DVD are:
· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

Some bloke
April 25th, 2013 - 3:31pmdepends where your buying from. Online it can range from £45-£60 (or at least, somewhere around those marks)
Some bloke
April 25th, 2013 - 3:14pmI’m not gonna get it but seeing it like this, makes me want it a bit. It does look lovely, but the only reason why I’d want it would be for the book. Anyone buying this?
McGann is the Doctor
April 25th, 2013 - 3:22pmNo Sixth Doctor story, so no, not me.
But that cover and that book are tempting.
The Flying Shark
April 25th, 2013 - 3:22pmI have most of the DVDs, but I love the book, so for that, I shall buy it. 🙂
The Greater Intelligence
April 25th, 2013 - 3:34pmI already own ‘The Caves Of Androzani’ and ‘Doctor Who: The Movie’; My sister owns ‘The End Of Time’. Now bonus features and I already have a quarter of these at my disposal. In a short answer, no. Cool cover, though.

Gordon
April 24th, 2013 - 5:20pmBut most don’t need the special edition treatment and some of them (earthshock and dalek invasion of earth) we have been told there isn’t any plans at the moment to do a special edition.
The Greater Intelligence
April 24th, 2013 - 8:08pm‘At The Moment’ is the key phrase there. Every one of these has been confirmed at one point to be Speacial Editioned. Since I have only started collecting classic DVDs recently, I’m not getting any of these until they are.
Gordon
April 24th, 2013 - 9:09pmnone of the titles have ever been confirmed for a special edition officially by bbc worldwide. It’s morefan wishes and rumours than official confirmation.
The Greater Intelligence
April 24th, 2013 - 9:24pmWell it’s a list of what needs to be Special Editioned by accordanence to the requirements of what already has been. Just a list.
Gordon
April 25th, 2013 - 3:40amEm most of these dont fit the requirements. It’s not how old it is. It’s how much of a visual improvement can be made and mosto
Gordon
April 25th, 2013 - 3:43amOf them look as good as the restoration team are going to get them.
McGann is the Doctor
April 25th, 2013 - 3:22pmYou forgot Arc of Infinity
Fled Frintstone
April 26th, 2013 - 10:54pmActually you’ve left off probably the only story that I would say still definitely needs an A/V upgrade and that people would probably rebuy:
…and the Silurians
The Fourth Doctor
April 20th, 2013 - 8:39amThis is really low. Like one of the comments just said, the BBC are just getting us to buy it because of desperation to see the Tenth Planet. They are sell-outs!
Gordon
April 20th, 2013 - 9:11amAs i keep saying this isn’t aimed at fans that already have the stories. Its aimed at casual fans that dont have them . It’s produced by a different team than normal and wont have its own armery case or any extras. I’d hardly call them sellouts for doing this with tenth planet when they have been doing it for the past 8 year’s with the current show. It’s not any worse than the vanilla releases of the current show with an extras filled season sets months later.

April 19th, 2013 - 8:00pmWill the tenth planet get it’s own release or is it just in this box set ?

April 19th, 2013 - 8:02pmdon’t worry, it will get it’s own release.

April 18th, 2013 - 2:12pmIs it just me? But other than a letter of confirmation to a site user, that this release had had no official announcements yet, and has been removed from other websites and even listed on one as ‘removed from schedule’. No covers either, and it’s only about 6 weeks from the release date. (yet we have covers for later releases up to August) I am seriously thinking this will not be happening. I think if they just give us Tenth Planet on its own nobody would complain though!
booboo
April 18th, 2013 - 2:16pmstill on Amazon and BBC shop, we dont get any info on these so its anyone’s guess although its contents have been confirmed else-ware
I dont understand why all this stuff is put up for pre order when its not finalised we have no idea what were ordering
drjakeyoung
April 18th, 2013 - 2:41pmgalaxy 4 web shop has it up for pre order and has the list of episodes on it. I wish they wouldn’t keep us waiting for weeks on end!
josh smith
April 18th, 2013 - 6:52ami am very angry! why dont the release the tenth planet singully at the same time so i can buy that!
Gordon
April 18th, 2013 - 8:29amIts dan halls dream release for the 50th anniversary
drjakeyoung
April 18th, 2013 - 9:18amthen why not release this for the 50th anniversary at the same time?
Gordon
April 18th, 2013 - 12:42pmBecause its a different team that are producing the regeneration box set. Dan isn’t involved with that.
Johnny
April 25th, 2013 - 4:36pmNo date has been confiemd for “The Tenth Planet” so it may end up being released around the same date.
It will come out on its own eventually, it’s just a question of being patient (or ask to borrow the VHS from someone who owns that).
The Greater Intelligence
April 16th, 2013 - 6:50pmIn the spirit of this boxset, what is your favorite story from each Doctor; are any of these in this boxset?

April 12th, 2013 - 9:20amIts criminal! The BBC are trying to take advantage of desperate fans who want to see Tenth Planet! That’s why they didn’t release it before regenerations! You know they should just pull their fingers out; and animate all the missing episodes for the 50th!So what if its not viable! Its not like they can’t afford it! All the millions of dollar pounds they have made off Doctor who! They should do it for the fans and then the main stream would follow. DISGUSTING
Lachie
April 12th, 2013 - 9:59ami think it would be more a question of time… even if what you say about the BBC being criminal and having endless money is as you think and it were possible in regard to Animation. I won’t go on about how what you’ve just stated isn’t really backed up by anything and in reality is just not possible but instead say that you must be pretty desperate for The Tenth Planet and that the individual release coming in late 2013 will no doubt be better to wait for.
Gordon
April 12th, 2013 - 9:59amJust wait for the stand alone release then. Its BBC worldwide that release the DVDs not BBC themselves.bbc worldwide are the business arm of the bbc and as a business its their job to make money. They are not going to finance something they aren’t going to get a return on. Bbc worldwide don’t owe the fans anything. This release isn’t aimed at die hard fans that already have most of the stories its more for the casual fans that’s why there is no extras and tenth planet is just a vanilla release.
AlzieWhozie
April 12th, 2013 - 12:43pmIts the BBC showing an element of greed and contempt and knowing that people will ultimately spend the Whopound. I’ll wait till later in the year for Tenth Planet.
A shame really as the BBC does great stuff with some of the DVDs and then do this. I reckon the Meddling Monk is behind it all.
Anonymous
April 16th, 2013 - 5:35pmWhat’s a vanilla release?
drjakeyoung
April 16th, 2013 - 5:39pma vanilla release is an individual (or stand alone) release of something. So the tenth planet in this set is not one because it is in a set, but the individual release latter this year will be a vanilla release.
Anonymous
April 16th, 2013 - 7:13pmok
badblokebob
April 18th, 2013 - 4:39amdrjakeyoung is wrong about what a vanilla release is. A vanilla DVD is one with no special features, i.e. it’s just the film (or TV episodes).
So assuming the Tenth Planet in this box set contains the episodes and nothing else, it is a vanilla release. The standalone release later this year, loaded with extras as it shall be, is NOT a vanilla release.
matparks08
April 11th, 2013 - 10:29pmso, dvd releases occasionally coincide with what’s happening on the new series. Ice Warriors coming out to coincide with Ice Warriors on screen, Zygons on screen for the anniversary to link with Terror of the Zygons dvd……..A suddenly appearing ‘Regeneration’ box set????? Could this be linked with the new series too??? (No, i’m not being serious and don’t have any bizarre insider information – sorry!)
Lachie
April 12th, 2013 - 5:43ami think its just a 50th anniversary thing, but i wouldn’t mind a change to the 12th Doctor in fact i would encourage it, i have a feeling though that Matt Smith if he leaves anytime soon would be in the Series 8 finale. I don’t think Matt would want to do Series 9, remember with the split Series 7 between two years it would mean he’d be in the role for a good 4 years now.
Lachie
April 12th, 2013 - 5:44amthat is after Series 8*
drjakeyoung
April 12th, 2013 - 12:50pmhe has already confirmed he is staying all 2014 (series 8) so the earliest we can say is 2015 (series 9) but i have been saying for a couple of years now i think he will stay till series 9 part 1.
time and relotive dimens
April 11th, 2013 - 3:13pmi think for the 6th doctor regeneoration they should put the end of trail of time lord and add on something like time and the rani with new SFX where it shows the rani shooting down the dr’s tardis
josh smith
April 11th, 2013 - 3:15pmbut there is big finish in between soo its wouldnt fit
Scott the Raptor
April 11th, 2013 - 11:38pmBig Finish isn’t canon though.
Lachie
April 12th, 2013 - 10:02ami don’t think an explanation as to the sixth’s regeneration matters only the regeneration itself when it comes to things.
josh smith
April 12th, 2013 - 10:04ambut they fit in with the seris
Scott the Raptor
April 12th, 2013 - 10:06amNo they don’t fit in with the series.
josh smith
April 12th, 2013 - 12:45pmyes the jugganourts is between revelation and remembrance of the daleks
Scott the Raptor
April 12th, 2013 - 5:10pmWhat? I didn’t mean when a story is set. What I mean is they have no connection to the programme and therefore, they’re not canon.
matparks08
April 16th, 2013 - 7:30pmEnd of the day we see Sixth Doctor regenerate in Time and the Rani! On the belief that this is aimed at casual fans I don’t see why we need the regeneration stories. After all, these are the stories where the Doctor is defeated each time. War Games is 10 long episodes which will lose anyone who’s just ‘wanting a taster’, and Time and the Rani is regarded as one of the very worst stories, there are 11 other much better McCoy stories. This is a missed opportunity. Why not just 11 best stories for each Doctor, fans voting for the eps wanted.
josh smith
April 18th, 2013 - 6:50amno if people voted then we wuold be lubered with caves of androzarni and stuff like survival
The TARDIS
April 18th, 2013 - 7:00amThat’s because they’re good…
josh smith
April 18th, 2013 - 7:07amsurvival is boring curse of fenric is better
The TARDIS
April 18th, 2013 - 7:12amI love Curse of Fenric! It scared me to death the first time I watched it. Sadly, I don’t think many people would agree with me…
josh smith
April 18th, 2013 - 7:29amsuvival is too far featched and dosnt seem like dr who i love curse of fenric aswell
Jayk
June 18th, 2013 - 7:33pmyeah i like the idea of a 11 Best Dr Who stories but i imagine we would get
Caves of Androzani
Remembrance of the Daleks
and possibly Logopolis
Lachie
April 11th, 2013 - 7:53ami think what people are forgetting is that with the New Series stories included in this release for collector’s like myself of the Classic Series stories its unlikely that they will be packaged and released as they have been already. So wouldn’t you rather wait till it gets released individually?
Lachie
April 11th, 2013 - 9:05am(that is the Tenth Planet) even then there are no extras for all the stories as far as can be told from speculation, and the face that there is no complete sixth doctor and eleventh doctor story isn’t an issue i mean the boxset is called regeneration, its supposed to include all the stories with regeneration sequences. Another thing to is people saying that this boxset has no value, think of the people who are new series fans who will buy this and then get into the classic series more. And Zygons being moved back has nothing to do with this.
McGann is the Doctor
April 10th, 2013 - 12:36pmThis is a fail.
No Sixth Doctor story and no Eleventh Doctor story.
drftgyh
April 10th, 2013 - 5:14pmits just more mouney invovled 59.99 for stuff we alreadey have exept 10th planet but they moved the realse date again behind the normal realse date for tenth planet
booboo
April 10th, 2013 - 5:17pmyou may already have not everyone
Nicholas
April 10th, 2013 - 6:47pmColin Baker regenerated in the Seventh Doctor story Time and The Rani
JD95
April 10th, 2013 - 11:07pmI would be glad there is no 11th doctor story.
josh smith
April 11th, 2013 - 8:27amyes i dont like the 11th doctor except for the 11th hour and starship uk there good stories
THE ERGON
April 10th, 2013 - 12:24pmAnd to think, they,ve backdated zygons for this. June was going to be so special Dvd wise. Thank god for the mind of evil release at least.
Gordon
April 10th, 2013 - 2:08pmno they didn’t. They backdated zygons to release it closer to the anniversary special. This release appearing in its place was just coincidental
Lachie
April 11th, 2013 - 9:08ami felt that way too, but Zygons is back for 50th and that’s the reason why, and i suppose they could further clean up and finalise the release since its the last Tom Baker.
Amys Handbag
April 9th, 2013 - 8:18pmWhat an odd way to release Tenth Planet. No doubt the animated episode will rapidly find its way onto various websites, rather taking the shine off the proper release later in the year.
Make much more sense to release Tenth Planet now and the boxset for the anniversary / xmas market.
Some bloke
April 9th, 2013 - 9:05pmthats what i said, I’m so irritated by that fact! 🙁
Amys Handbag
April 9th, 2013 - 11:03pmOh yes, just noticed your comment – must have missed it when I was scrolling down. Great minds… as they say 🙂
kiwi63
April 10th, 2013 - 10:22amwhat “later”, there is no release date for this
Some bloke
April 10th, 2013 - 11:41amyes, the tenth planet is released individually later this year
Some bloke
April 10th, 2013 - 11:43amand yes this is being released in june
Volcanic7383
April 9th, 2013 - 7:55pm£42.99, a bit steep isn’t it?
drjakeyoung
April 9th, 2013 - 7:56pmfor 37 episodes, 1 movie and a 75 minute episode, it is actually quite a good value.
JD95
April 9th, 2013 - 10:07pmIt’s not good value if you already have the releases and are just waiting for Tenth Planet.
Sam Bentley
April 9th, 2013 - 10:55pmThen don’t buy this set and simply wait for TTP’s release. I wish people would stop making such a fuss… if you are a collector of classic Who DVDs then this set isn’t made for you, but more for people like myself who don’t really want to buy all the DVDs but instead have a few. Everyone needs to quite complaining as to me this set us great and at a fab price!
JD95
April 10th, 2013 - 11:36amIf that comment was adressed at me, then i’m not complaining i was just stating that it isn’t great value if you have all of the releases already.
josh smith
April 11th, 2013 - 8:29amyes and they moved terror of the zygons although i was nevr going to buy it this year i have the VHS and i have about 15 stories that i have never seen
Some bloke
April 9th, 2013 - 7:24pmThis is really annoying for people like me, where I own everything in this set other than the tenth planet. It SO annoying cus I have to wait until November (possibly) for the official release, when I know the animated material is already released. For every month after this is released, until tenth planet is released on its own, I will have to resist the temptation of looking at clips of episode 4 that people (will) have posted on youtube. Really they should have released it on its own first then in a boxset. SO ANNOYED RIGHT NOW!
drjakeyoung
April 9th, 2013 - 7:29pmi understand your frustration and i feel the same, but this released will have NO extra’s on it and i would honestly raver wait a few months for all the extra’s. Plus i think the reason this is being released 1st is because not all the extra’s have been completed or classified.

April 9th, 2013 - 7:43pmIt’s silly, They could have released it on the same day they released Tenth planet. I’m just worried that as soon as it’s released, I will see the episode 4 animation all over youtube and the ‘Who’ sites and I wont be able to dodge it. Just so frustrating! 🙁

April 9th, 2013 - 10:47pmSounds like even if you buy it you won’t get the chance to separate Tenth Planet out as they’re all in one fold out sleeve – so Tenth Planet mustn’t even have its own artwork yet either. I guess we still wait and see. Other than the conformation letter we know about has anybody seen or heard anything else yet?
