Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

regeneration-set-2

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

A full list of stories included on the DVD are:

· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

no, BBC shop is free postage and it only takes 1/2 days to arrive. Amazon is free postage, but you have to pay to get it on the day it comes out. BBC shop is free and you still get it the day it comes out!

BBC online shop DOES NOT ADD POSTAGE.

      PLUS:

1 – Add the promotional code RP0413 and you get a further 10% off (worked 2 days ago when I pre-ordered Ice Warriors and Mind of Evil.

2 – On top of this code BBC shop are knocking £1.60 off any combination of Doctor Who item (or single item) when you spend £25 or more.

3 – Even without the above offers Doctor Who DVD pre-orders are always cheaper than Amazon UK when ordered direct from the BBC.

But most don’t need the special edition treatment and some of them (earthshock and dalek invasion of earth) we have been told there isn’t any plans at the moment to do a special edition.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      April 24th, 2013 - 8:08pm

‘At The Moment’ is the key phrase there. Every one of these has been confirmed at one point to be Speacial Editioned. Since I have only started collecting classic DVDs recently, I’m not getting any of these until they are.

    • Gordon

      April 24th, 2013 - 9:09pm

none of the titles have ever been confirmed for a special edition officially by bbc worldwide. It’s morefan wishes and rumours than official confirmation.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      April 24th, 2013 - 9:24pm

Well it’s a list of what needs to be Special Editioned by accordanence to the requirements of what already has been. Just a list.

    • Gordon

      April 25th, 2013 - 3:40am

Em most of these dont fit the requirements. It’s not how old it is. It’s how much of a visual improvement can be made and mosto

      …and the Silurians

  • The Fourth Doctor

    April 20th, 2013 - 8:39am

This is really low. Like one of the comments just said, the BBC are just getting us to buy it because of desperation to see the Tenth Planet. They are sell-outs!

As i keep saying this isn’t aimed at fans that already have the stories. Its aimed at casual fans that dont have them . It’s produced by a different team than normal and wont have its own armery case or any extras. I’d hardly call them sellouts for doing this with tenth planet when they have been doing it for the past 8 year’s with the current show. It’s not any worse than the vanilla releases of the current show with an extras filled season sets months later.

Is it just me? But other than a letter of confirmation to a site user, that this release had had no official announcements yet, and has been removed from other websites and even listed on one as ‘removed from schedule’. No covers either, and it’s only about 6 weeks from the release date. (yet we have covers for later releases up to August) I am seriously thinking this will not be happening. I think if they just give us Tenth Planet on its own nobody would complain though!

Its criminal! The BBC are trying to take advantage of desperate fans who want to see Tenth Planet! That’s why they didn’t release it before regenerations! You know they should just pull their fingers out; and animate all the missing episodes for the 50th!So what if its not viable! Its not like they can’t afford it! All the millions of dollar pounds they have made off Doctor who! They should do it for the fans and then the main stream would follow. DISGUSTING

i think it would be more a question of time… even if what you say about the BBC being criminal and having endless money is as you think and it were possible in regard to Animation. I won’t go on about how what you’ve just stated isn’t really backed up by anything and in reality is just not possible but instead say that you must be pretty desperate for The Tenth Planet and that the individual release coming in late 2013 will no doubt be better to wait for.

    • Gordon

      April 12th, 2013 - 9:59am

Just wait for the stand alone release then. Its BBC worldwide that release the DVDs not BBC themselves.bbc worldwide are the business arm of the bbc and as a business its their job to make money. They are not going to finance something they aren’t going to get a return on. Bbc worldwide don’t owe the fans anything. This release isn’t aimed at die hard fans that already have most of the stories its more for the casual fans that’s why there is no extras and tenth planet is just a vanilla release.

    • AlzieWhozie

      April 12th, 2013 - 12:43pm

Its the BBC showing an element of greed and contempt and knowing that people will ultimately spend the Whopound. I’ll wait till later in the year for Tenth Planet.

A shame really as the BBC does great stuff with some of the DVDs and then do this. I reckon the Meddling Monk is behind it all.

      What’s a vanilla release?

    • drjakeyoung

      April 16th, 2013 - 5:39pm

a vanilla release is an individual (or stand alone) release of something. So the tenth planet in this set is not one because it is in a set, but the individual release latter this year will be a vanilla release.

    • Anonymous

      April 16th, 2013 - 7:13pm

      ok

    • badblokebob

      April 18th, 2013 - 4:39am

drjakeyoung is wrong about what a vanilla release is. A vanilla DVD is one with no special features, i.e. it’s just the film (or TV episodes).

So assuming the Tenth Planet in this box set contains the episodes and nothing else, it is a vanilla release. The standalone release later this year, loaded with extras as it shall be, is NOT a vanilla release.

  • matparks08

    April 11th, 2013 - 10:29pm

so, dvd releases occasionally coincide with what’s happening on the new series. Ice Warriors coming out to coincide with Ice Warriors on screen, Zygons on screen for the anniversary to link with Terror of the Zygons dvd……..A suddenly appearing ‘Regeneration’ box set????? Could this be linked with the new series too??? (No, i’m not being serious and don’t have any bizarre insider information – sorry!)

i think its just a 50th anniversary thing, but i wouldn’t mind a change to the 12th Doctor in fact i would encourage it, i have a feeling though that Matt Smith if he leaves anytime soon would be in the Series 8 finale. I don’t think Matt would want to do Series 9, remember with the split Series 7 between two years it would mean he’d be in the role for a good 4 years now.

End of the day we see Sixth Doctor regenerate in Time and the Rani! On the belief that this is aimed at casual fans I don’t see why we need the regeneration stories. After all, these are the stories where the Doctor is defeated each time. War Games is 10 long episodes which will lose anyone who’s just ‘wanting a taster’, and Time and the Rani is regarded as one of the very worst stories, there are 11 other much better McCoy stories. This is a missed opportunity. Why not just 11 best stories for each Doctor, fans voting for the eps wanted.

i think what people are forgetting is that with the New Series stories included in this release for collector’s like myself of the Classic Series stories its unlikely that they will be packaged and released as they have been already. So wouldn’t you rather wait till it gets released individually?

(that is the Tenth Planet) even then there are no extras for all the stories as far as can be told from speculation, and the face that there is no complete sixth doctor and eleventh doctor story isn’t an issue i mean the boxset is called regeneration, its supposed to include all the stories with regeneration sequences. Another thing to is people saying that this boxset has no value, think of the people who are new series fans who will buy this and then get into the classic series more. And Zygons being moved back has nothing to do with this.

    This is a fail.

No Sixth Doctor story and no Eleventh Doctor story.

no they didn’t. They backdated zygons to release it closer to the anniversary special. This release appearing in its place was just coincidental

      April 11th, 2013 - 9:08am

i felt that way too, but Zygons is back for 50th and that’s the reason why, and i suppose they could further clean up and finalise the release since its the last Tom Baker.

What an odd way to release Tenth Planet. No doubt the animated episode will rapidly find its way onto various websites, rather taking the shine off the proper release later in the year.

Make much more sense to release Tenth Planet now and the boxset for the anniversary / xmas market.

for 37 episodes, 1 movie and a 75 minute episode, it is actually quite a good value.

    • JD95

      April 9th, 2013 - 10:07pm

It’s not good value if you already have the releases and are just waiting for Tenth Planet.

Then don’t buy this set and simply wait for TTP’s release. I wish people would stop making such a fuss… if you are a collector of classic Who DVDs then this set isn’t made for you, but more for people like myself who don’t really want to buy all the DVDs but instead have a few. Everyone needs to quite complaining as to me this set us great and at a fab price!

    • JD95

      April 10th, 2013 - 11:36am

If that comment was adressed at me, then i’m not complaining i was just stating that it isn’t great value if you have all of the releases already.

      April 11th, 2013 - 8:29am

yes and they moved terror of the zygons although i was nevr going to buy it this year i have the VHS and i have about 15 stories that i have never seen

This is really annoying for people like me, where I own everything in this set other than the tenth planet. It SO annoying cus I have to wait until November (possibly) for the official release, when I know the animated material is already released. For every month after this is released, until tenth planet is released on its own, I will have to resist the temptation of looking at clips of episode 4 that people (will) have posted on youtube. Really they should have released it on its own first then in a boxset. SO ANNOYED RIGHT NOW!

i understand your frustration and i feel the same, but this released will have NO extra’s on it and i would honestly raver wait a few months for all the extra’s. Plus i think the reason this is being released 1st is because not all the extra’s have been completed or classified.

    • Some bloke

      April 9th, 2013 - 7:43pm

It’s silly, They could have released it on the same day they released Tenth planet. I’m just worried that as soon as it’s released, I will see the episode 4 animation all over youtube and the ‘Who’ sites and I wont be able to dodge it. Just so frustrating! 🙁

    • matparks08

      April 9th, 2013 - 10:47pm

Sounds like even if you buy it you won’t get the chance to separate Tenth Planet out as they’re all in one fold out sleeve – so Tenth Planet mustn’t even have its own artwork yet either. I guess we still wait and see. Other than the conformation letter we know about has anybody seen or heard anything else yet?
