Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

regeneration-set-2

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

A full list of stories included on the DVD are:

· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

now, now l’m sure it isn’t a waste of money besides i don’t think i will buy it since i have “Planet of the Spiders”, “Logopolis”, “The Caves of Androzani” and “The TV Movie” but at least i think from the price and for fans of the show from the new series this will no doubt be an excellent buy! and will bring new series fans over to the classic series aswell! 😀

      Planet of The Spiders
      Logopolis
      The Caves of Androzani
      Time and The Rani

Could it be like the Davros collection, in one set rather than individual packaging? If they did that, they could have each of the two Doctors who feature in it’s faces on it to show who regenerates into who.

l’m guessing they’ll do something like combine all the episodes and parts of each serial together to make it feature length, even then i don’t think it would = 6 Discs so i think that was a placeholder or something no doubt. i have a feeling this boxset will be sort of like the David Tennant Years boxset or the Davros Boxset in that it will not be your average DVD Boxset and have will have booklets. Good choice of Stories!!

      April 8th, 2013 - 10:40pm

Ah I see, I haven’t seen The Ultimate Foe yet, so I didn’t know that. It still seems like a glaring omission though, having every Doctor 1-10, but no 6

    • josh smith

but time and the rani is the regen episde and they cant include the ultimate foe as people woulnt understand it so it makes scene

I will be very angry if they put the tenth planet in this boxset and don’t realese it separately because I do not wish to get 8 stories and 1 movie I’ve already got it would just be pointless to buy a bunch of stories and 1 movies (which you have already got) just to get a stories everybody wants

Apologies if this has been listed before but on here, but in the USA they are getting a title called Doctors Revisited with stories from Docs 1-4. I would guess this will become Regeneration for us. The website is here – http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doctor-TheDoctorsRevisited-TheMoonbase/18293

Out on June 11th according to Amazon.com, so that’s certainly in line with what should be the release date of Regeneration. £41 still seems expensive for 4 bog-standard re-releases…maybe it’s still something different after all (should it ever appear)

    • Ivoree

      April 9th, 2013 - 12:58am

No the Doctor’s Revisited is collecting the documentary specials and the serials that accompany them for each of the 11 Doctors that are being shown monthly on BBC America. The Regeneration set is just that. A collection of all the Regeneration stories.

  • gordon

    April 5th, 2013 - 1:09am

Galaxy 4 webshop no longer lists the regeneration box for pre order and sainsburys entertainment lists the release date as tbc. the British video association lists the release as pulled from schedule http://www.bva.org.uk/node/2035979. I know amazon and BBC shop still list them though. This release is getting more and more bizarre.

  • Joe

    April 4th, 2013 - 12:35pm

The price would makes me think it’s a 7 disc set
But I wounder what story’s would be in it mabey it’s story’s when the dr regenerates (or an enemies of the drs eg: the master) or story’s based on regeneration (eg: the deadly assassin) I don’t think it would have story’s that don’t have regeneration in it or based around regeneration or the effects of regeneration

    I Hope it has

The tenth planet (ep 4 animated)
The power of the daleks(includes animated/ reconstructed eps)
    Robot (se)
    The deadly assassin (se)
    Logopolis (se)
    Castrovalva (se)

we still have no clue, i do think your choice of things won’t be likely though because Logopolis and Castrovalva together is in the New Beginnings Boxset.
i think they would be incredibly popular stories from each era so my guess is perhaps either The Daleks/The Aztecs/The Sensorites from the first, the Tomb of the Cybermen/The War Games from the second, Spearhead from Space/The Sea Devils/Terror of the Autons/The Daemons/Planet of Spiders from the Third.

    • Lachie

      April 5th, 2013 - 7:11am

Robot/Genesis of the Daleks/Pyramids of Mars/Talons of Weng Chiang from the fourth. The Five Doctors/Resurrection of the Daleks/The Caves of Androzani from the Fifth. and for sixth and seven i’m not sure but Remembrance of the Daleks obviously for Seven and no doubt TV Movie for Eight since its his only one 😛 it would look amazing seeing a boxset with an story from each doctor in it imagine what it would look like on the spine of the boxset with all eight doctors faces 😀

    • MR BLAH

      April 5th, 2013 - 10:27am

Wonder if the doctors revisited 1-4 that has just been anounced for r1 will be the regeneration box in r2? http://tvshowsondvd.com/n/18279

    • Gordon

      April 3rd, 2013 - 11:56pm

If its the same versions that was shown on bbc america (widescreen, omnibus versions and unrestored) they would be unique and maybe worth getting when the price comes down. From what ive heard Its nothing to do with dan hall (executive producer of the classic range) or the restoration team so dont expect any new remastering or special edition versions.

This is a wild theory that even I don’t believe, but we haven’t had much television Doctor Who lately, and this box set has been so secret.

Considering it says ‘Regeneration Box Set’, (I don’t believe this) it could contain newly filmed Eight Doctor episodes that fill the gap between the Television Movie and Rose, which will start and end with a Regeneration.

I have no idea what it is, but here’s what it could be if the been/2entertain wanted to be kind to fans it has just disappointed with the Zygons delay:
Early release of Tenth Planet – 2 discs
Early release of The Ice Warriors – 2 discs
Reanimated The Moonbase – 2 discs
Reanimated The Underwater Menace – 2 discs

OK so that sounds like a lot for the price, so how about 3 of the 4?

If that is a reanimation pipe dream, then I really do want to help build up the funding that will make them all possible. . . But a 5 x SE rerelease for non-fans?

have to say i think people are getting carried away with themselves. i think the aforementioned non-special special editions release of 10th planet, war games ect with no extras is far more likely than something the die hard already owns the dvd’s in the set would want fans. i include myself! it would be wonderful if this set was genuinely special but i think a lot of people are in for a very disappointing shock when it’s officially announced

  • gordon

    April 2nd, 2013 - 8:55am

I have heard from a couple of people who have apparently heard what it is. Normally they are quite reliable with their sources. According to them its a 5 story box set with 10th planet war games planet of spiders logopolis and androzani with no extras. Limited edition numbered and the only way to get tenth planet till later in the year in a 2 disc format. Could have just been an April fool though but i did hear the same info from about 5 different people. We shall soon see

    • Lachie

      April 2nd, 2013 - 9:38am

makes sense, besides Time and the Rani and Survival aren’t exactly Regeneration stories although you could count the TV Movie as such, if this is the case then this means its Classic Series and has nothing to do with New Series, although i kinda think its wrong a little i mean when did they start animating the Tenth Planet? and is this perhaps the first Regeneration Box Set cause then they could make a second one with the rest perhaps,

    • Blake

      April 2nd, 2013 - 10:01am

I think that may be believable but i hope not, because i want the tenth planet asap but i don’t have new begginnings so then i can’t get keeper of traken and castrovalva

    • gordon

      April 2nd, 2013 - 10:10am

They started work on it early July last year so its not impossible they have finished it already. From the vibe I’m getting if this is true it might be UK exclusive

    • drjakeyoung

      April 2nd, 2013 - 12:52pm

if this is the case, then i think they will make a second version with time and the rani, the movie, bad wolf/the parting of the ways and the end of time parts one and 2.

    • who rules

      April 2nd, 2013 - 3:22pm

    • Gordon

      April 2nd, 2013 - 4:00pm

Not really when you consider how much they retail seperatly. This box set will most likely be marketed for casual fans that dont bother normally bother with the classic releases and the die hard collectors (limited edition numbering). Its only a rip off if the contents described are not on the dvd. Also how can anybody claim something is a rip off when no cash is exchanged.

      April 2nd, 2013 - 5:01pm

for the price tag there has to be SOMETHING different inside to get people to buy it, and with a title like Regeneration having Tenth Planet in it makes perfect sense. If this IS what were getting in it I wonder if they’ll have new covers or come boxed like the Davros set instead?

if this is what i think it is and is just a hastily made boxset then l am sooo annoyed they moved back Zygons for this.

Perhaps they had no choice. Could be some legal or unforseen issue that was beyond their control that required a delay in zygons. Has happened before

For ‘The Invasion’ or ‘The Reign Of Terror’, if they found the missing episodes, would they Special Edition or just re-release the titles with the episodes. same thing with other projects being worked on.

be patient. BBC worldwide haven’t even announced it yet. Plus It is the easter holidays after all. I doubt we will hear anything this weekend with it being holidays. New dwm is due on Thursday so we might get info then.

I still reckon its a special edition box set like the Revisitation box sets. I still think if it is special edition box set it will contain Dalek invasion of earth, Earthshock and maybe 2 more special editions. Whats you guys ideas?

    • Blake

      March 30th, 2013 - 10:37am

i personally don’t think it’s a whole box of special editions, Gordon, have there been any commentaries that have been rumored, like the moonbase commentary was last year?

    • E

      March 30th, 2013 - 10:48am

Frazer Hines said he’d recorded a commentary for ‘The Underwater Menace’ in the last issue of DWM

    • Connor

      March 30th, 2013 - 10:55am

I think then Dalek invasion of earth ( 2 disc), Earthshock ( 2 disc), the Moonbase ( 1 disc), the Underwater Menace ( 1 disc)! Since there are 6 discs in this set i thought that would be the order that they were in. Also 2 special editions and 2 not released items would make up the price of £45! And since underwater menace has a new found story that has not been seen yet it would rase the price, And the animation would make it cost more as well.whats your thoughts i think this might be actually be right and this could be actually the stuff!

same but its probably not :/ really am still bothered by them having to move back Zygons for this thing which we know nothing about… i mean i can’t wait for the Directors Cut of Episode 1 of Zygons its never been seen before until this release!!! err

      March 30th, 2013 - 1:20pm

It’s about 10 weeks to go and nothing has been revealed or cleared by the bbfc. I’m seriously starting to think its just repackaging. I doubt it will be a special edition and it definitely won’t include special editions of dioe and earthshock as Richard bignell said they have NO plans to revisit those.

      March 30th, 2013 - 1:25pm

      wats DIOE?

    • gordon

      March 30th, 2013 - 1:31pm

      dalek invasion of earth

    • drjakeyoung

      March 30th, 2013 - 1:42pm

i still haven’t got an email back from them yet replying to me asking about info on this release!

    • Lachie

      March 30th, 2013 - 11:52pm

so Gordon you think it will be something like a few stories repackaged in a boxset also is this new series or definitely classic series? i think Classic Series but still if this is just repackaging then which stories? no doubt no new ones that haven’t been released already so l’m guessing 6 dvd’s means something like a story from the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and l’m not sure about the sixth, seventh or eighth and they’d all be released on one dvd so no doubt 4 part stories at the max is all i can guess.

    • Gordon

      March 31st, 2013 - 12:35am

I think it could be a mix of classic and new. Possibly stories conected with the current series (so maybe an ice warrior story cybermen story multi doctor story etc). Heard a rumour today. Dont know how true it is though and i actually hope it isnt true. It will contain cut down 50 minute versions of classic stories with new modern effects (bit like the planet of fire special edition)

    • E

      March 31st, 2013 - 2:35am

Could it be The Tenth Planet and some sort of version of Power of the Daleks (Reconstruction, animation)?

    • Blake

      March 31st, 2013 - 5:57am

Perhaps it’s just the new series episodes being repackaged in the classic series dvd format, cause they are 5/6 discs aren’t they

    • gordon

      March 31st, 2013 - 9:52am

That would probably only take the show up to dalek

    • Lachie

      March 31st, 2013 - 11:31am

in response to the majority of people thinking that it will be Tenth Planet with something else l don’t think that would be the case i mean haven’t they not yet finished animation! so lets think a little more clearly about what we do know, and in response to Blake i seriously hope they do that sort of thing except of course by series not by volume, all those custom dvd covers where that is the case though is really cool! why split the two anymore lets just keep it as Doctor Who and not “Classic” and “New” Series Doctor Who.

      March 31st, 2013 - 7:12pm

I really would like to see the new series dvds in a classic series dvd style. Production info subs, possible new commentaries, hopefully full episodes of confidential and anything else Dan Hall and the team can come up with.

      April 1st, 2013 - 12:34pm

haha me too 🙂 but i highly doubt it 😛 now thinking about stories that connect with the Series at the moment that would make lots more sense Gordon. So perhaps something like any 3 or 4 of An Unearthly Child for first Doctor, Tomb of the Cybermen or The Seeds of Death (since Ice Warriors still being made) for second Doctor, The Three Doctors for third, Genesis of the Daleks for fourth (purely because it is iconic), The Five Doctors for Fifth, not sure for Sixth or Seventh but obviously TV Movie for Eighth, Parting of the Ways for Ninth,

    • Lachie

      April 1st, 2013 - 12:40pm

Last of the Timelords or just The End of Time for Tenth, and for Eleven i don’t think they would make1… oh and if that’s the case with cut down 50 minute version stories then couldn’t they release one from every Doctor easily? i don’t think it would be regeneration stories anymore though, even if Tenth Planet were done i don’t think The War Games, Planet of the Spiders, Logopolis, Caves of Androzani, Time and the Rain, the TV Movie, Parting of the Ways, The End of Time would work out together very well

I am almost certain this has something to do with THE TENTH PLANET. Maybe, they have done something with POWER OF THE DALEKS as well – reconstructed it? Animated it? It would explain the price as animating the entire 6-parter would cost a lot.

They will reply but don’t expect any new info. Recently somebody I know asked them if snowmen was going on s7 pt2 and they said no and yet it has been confirmed it will be on it so there is no guarantee the info will be correct.
