Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

regeneration-set-2

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

A full list of stories included on the DVD are:

· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

well it could happen if they split them up in to four each boxset.

what is the point, they have all been released anyway, really don’t want repeats.

      March 21st, 2013 - 9:44pm

thats true, i think “The Daleks” should stay as a one off in the beginning boxset. so not sold in any other boxsets. i not sure

      March 22nd, 2013 - 6:15am

This is perhaps the best guess i would think, with Doctors 1-5 in like the first dvd and then 6-11 in the second dvd

  • matparks08

    March 21st, 2013 - 1:09pm

Going off the price (£41) I’d imagine it will be a maximum of 7 dvds. The other Revisitiation box sets average at £6 per story. No ideas……it’s certainly got everyone talking…..what is it precious? What is it???

My guess would be 10th planet & repackaged Power of The Daleks that was a CD rom release of telesnaps & narration about 8yrs back. Probably a dull documentary about re generations made for BBC America thrown in too! I’d rather have the Zygons release in June please, move something else!

      March 21st, 2013 - 1:44pm

yea, i want mind of evil so then it can complete my pertwee collection. (bar green death SE and a possible SE of invasion of the dinosaurs with episode 1 fully colored by bablecolor.)

    • The Ice Warrior

      soz Whos bablecolour

    • Some bloke

      March 21st, 2013 - 4:29pm

he’s a youtuber and he recently colourised episode 1 of mind of evil for dvd. Hus real name is stuart humphreys. as said he’s on youtube as babelcolour. Look him up, he has some great stuff on there!

    • The Ice Warrior

      March 21st, 2013 - 6:43pm

Oh thanks so the bbc paid for his episode 1 then

    • Some bloke

      March 21st, 2013 - 8:11pm

they got their team to re-colour the other 5 episodes, using existing chroma dots in the video. Apparently Episode 1 (babelcolour’s) is the best, episode 2 is a bit shaky on the colour, but then episodes 3,4,5 and 6 are better than 2. Hopefully it should be a good release.
Please correct if I’m wrong in any of that 😀

    • MasterKasterborous

      March 21st, 2013 - 11:28pm

Technically they didn’t ‘re-colour’ the final five episodes, that would be manually adding the colour like episode 1. It’s actually called colour-recovery. If we’re being technical, the episodes exist on film rather than tape! 😛

I saw it at the BFI and will certainly agree with the statement above, episode 1 was by far and away the best.

[I noticed my last comment was removed and probably for good reason. If it was for correcting someone on spelling then I didn’t mean to cause any offence it was just because it is someone’s name.(Humphryes)]

    • Some bloke

      March 22nd, 2013 - 12:39pm

thank you masterkasterborour, and thanks for pointing out the spelling mistake ( i assume it was for me :)) and no you did not offend me in any way. I’m really excited for mind of evil

    • Anonymous

      March 22nd, 2013 - 4:19pm

I will be mighty annoyed if they move The Mind of Evil. That and Terror of the Zygons are my most anticipated releases of the year and I don’t want them moved back. I’m hoping this box-set ISN’T a re-release, because although it would be nice to have special editions of the likes of An Unearthly Child, Robot and Survival – I would much prefer the new releases first. I have a very big hunch that this is in fact The Tenth Planet bought forward, and maybe if we’re lucky – a recon (or even secretly animated version of Power of the Daleks)

first of all its highly likely that this will be classic series since tenth planet is coming out this year, i don’t think they would sell this counting both classic series and new series regenerations and i think if this is classic series then this is bound to be the first of what’s to come with older releases being repackaged with others like with VHS and the Doctor Collections, so new series fans who are just looking for great classic series stories feel hyped 😛

no he’s not leaving just yet. He will be in the 50th anniversary special and then the christmas special. Nothing is known beyond that. It is assumed that matt smith will be in it for next years series 8. I hope he is 😀

    • Lachie

      March 21st, 2013 - 6:38am

l’m hoping for a new show-runner, Moffat shouldn’t be having to cope with running Sherlock and Doctor Who, i could go on comparing the positives from Russell T Davies Era and the negatives with Moffat Era but i won’t because its been said a dozen times, i just think a new Show-Runner and a new Doctor would be good to see, Mat Smith is great as the Doctor though and i wouldn’t want him gone until the end of Series 8, but give his leave a bang like “The Caves of Androzani!” put this fun going doctor into hell 😀

    • gordon

      March 21st, 2013 - 7:20am

Rtd did who torchwood and sja at the same time yet nobody seemed to batter an eyelid. So I don’t see why moffat can’t do who and Sherlock.

    • The TARDIS

      March 21st, 2013 - 7:43am

Red only wrote very rarely for torchwood and SJA, he only wrote the openers whilst he was still doing doctor who really.

    • Scott the Raptor

      March 21st, 2013 - 7:58am

Because RTD was still writing good scripts.

    • gordon

      March 21st, 2013 - 8:37am

Rtd was still involved with producing torchwood and sja at the same time so my point of it being ok for Moffat being involved with who and sherlock still stands.

    • drjakeyoung

      March 21st, 2013 - 8:39am

we haven’t had a new Sherlock episode in over a year! 2 years gap in between every season! and there’s only 3 episodes! it cant be that hard to produce more episodes considering the shortage of dr who episodes he has done the past couple of years.

    • Some bloke

      March 21st, 2013 - 9:34am

yeah, but each episode is an hour and a half long. thats movie length. and considering that the actors have been dedicated to other things like star trek: into darkness and the hobbit trilogy. eveything has to be taken into account. Sherlock is a FANTASTIC show and I dont care if it takes two years for a new series, as long as its good, which it ALWAYS is, then I dont mind how long it takes. Sherlock series 3 is apparently started filming this month and will hopefully air at the end of this year 😀

    • AlzieWhozie

      March 21st, 2013 - 1:59pm

yes but officially its series 7 part 2

  • drjakeyoung

    March 20th, 2013 - 9:06pm

i think this is like the remembrance of the daleks special edition, where it was released in a box set 1st and then released separately. But only this time with the tenth planet and the separate DVD latter on this year. (like i say below, the box set contains all the regeneration episodes).

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 20th, 2013 - 8:48pm

I think it would be smart and pretty logical to say that it contains every regeneration story in it. It’ll probably contain:

The Tenth Planet (maybe as an early release)
      The War Games
      Planet Of The Spiders
      Logopolis
The Caves Of Androzani (probabaly Special Edition)
Time And The Rani (because it is where the actual regeneration happened and ‘The Ultimate Foe’ is on ‘Trial’)
Doctor Who: The Movie (again, Special Edition)
Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways
      The End Of Time
a sneak peek at the Finale of Season 7, Part 2 because it is Tranzalore.

    • drjakeyoung

      March 20th, 2013 - 8:50pm

this box set comes out after series 7 part 2 has aired, so it might actually contain the series 7 final?

    • Some bloke

      March 20th, 2013 - 8:53pm

@drjakeyoung, that link you posted with the image if all eleven doctors, that doesn’t necessarily mean it includes all eleven doctors. That just happens to be someones artwork that sainsbury’s have decided to use to advertise the product.

    • drjakeyoung

      March 20th, 2013 - 8:55pm

go into the description and click on cast and crew and it says matt smith stars in this dvd release

    • Some bloke

    • booboo

      March 20th, 2013 - 9:02pm

I have no idea although i hope they dont put the 10th planet in with a load of other stuff

    • The TARDIS

      March 20th, 2013 - 8:14pm

Part of me hopes that would be true for The Power of the Daleks, but part of me doesn’t (as there is no way The Underwater Menace and The Moonbase could have been animated yet).

  • drjakeyoung

    March 20th, 2013 - 8:00pm

just a lucky guess, i think it contains 9 stories, and those stories are the last from every doctor (not including the 8th doctor). I think this because the tenth planet might have been moved forward and had to replace zygons, so they thought they would do a box set with all the doctors last episodes.

I’m clueless on what this is. I am hopefull it is tenth planet been brought forward and paired with something (its 41 quid so its def not a solo release whatever this is). Would be disappointed if it turned out zygons was pushed back for a reissiue. Seems odd that they would release a box set called regeneration when 10th planet ain’t out yet. Even putting it out first in this boxset as an exclusive for a couple of months followed by a stand alone release later could cause a riot for those that can’t wait.

I imagine it may have something to do with the upcoming release of ‘The Tenth Planet’ seeing as the ending of that story introduced the concept of regeneration.

that’s a good idea, it may be a bundle of all 7 classic regeneration stories (tenth planet, war games, planet of spiders, logopolis, caves of androzani, trial of a time lord, and tv movie). Sounds a bit stupid though as the majority of people would already have those and it would be quite pricey!!!!
