Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

A full list of stories included on the DVD are:

· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

no, it says on doctor who.tv that there will be no region 1 version. There is however, the doctors revisited box set DVD that is exclusive to region 1.

Yes, but we don’t get the tenth planet.

the tenth planet will be released latter this year separately in region 1, 2 and 4.

1000 hours? There hasn’t even been that amount of footage produced.

You just need to do the sums to see it isn’t true, there’s been nearly 800 episodes. The average run time would need to be 1 hour and 15 minutes and very few episodes are anywhere near it.

      April 26th, 2013 - 10:04pm

It’s a typo, it should read 10 hours, rather than 1000 hours.

changed it now, it was copied from the press release, should have picked it up really

I’d usually agree with you on this, but this is something so exciting and different I think a few surprises would be good. Glad we can only see the Logopolis page too.

This and the complete 7th series , are the best box sets we’ve had in years! And they both come out this year!

maybe both, the book on it’s own for £10 and the book and the DVDs for £40!

    • Whovian

      April 25th, 2013 - 6:47pm

And it would be really great if the book was released in a SIGNED limited edition!!

    • drjakeyoung

      April 25th, 2013 - 6:50pm

That would be a great idea but I think they will only release 10,000 of these DVDs and 10,000 alone. Once they are all gone i don’t think you will ever be able to get them new again. (just look at the complete davros collection or the complete David Tennant years collection!)

  • drjakeyoung

    April 25th, 2013 - 6:16pm

I felt how y felt the 1st 5 minutes of viewing this, but this is just fabulous! At the end of the day, it’s pretty much a collectors item, and for £35 on BBC shop, that is 1 heck of a deal!

    1. will this contain any bonus features?

    2. will this include the loose cannon reconstruction as an extra, or at least the regeneration scene?

    • josh smith

      April 25th, 2013 - 6:10pm

no loose canon and no special features its a vanilla release

    • Fled Frintstone

      April 26th, 2013 - 10:14pm

      1. The only bonus feature is a great big hardback book.

      2. Tenth Planet will feature a new fully animated version of episode 4. It will not include the Loose Canon recon or the Doctor Who Restoration Team recon from the 2002 VHS edition.

This set will be region 2 only, however Tenth Planet will be given a stand alone regions 1, 2 and 4 release later this year complete with many bonus features (apparently including the 2002 DWRT recon.

it would be soooo cool if eccleston and mcgann met up and filmed a special scene of the regeneration just for this DVD. It would realy make it sell better.

On Amazon it says it is £43.25 but at the top of this page it says £61.27. Also it says it is being released on the 10th June 2013 whereas you have but it down as the 24th… which is right?

Wouldn’t it be amazing if they released a book similar to this one, this year that would show all of the episodes, characters and aliens in great depth and detail. Similar to the Doctor Who The Legend book that came out a few years ago.

    • Sam Bentley

      April 25th, 2013 - 4:20pm

Doctor Who has been rated a 12 on most DVDs since the release of ‘Silence in the Library’ as that was deemed to scary for PG. You could probably say that all of these are percieved as a 12 simply becuase it involves the – sort of – death of the main – and probably numerous other – characters.

    • LG

      April 25th, 2013 - 4:20pm

Logopolis is a 12, tv movie is a 12, end of time is a twelve!

End of time is a PG isn’t it?

    • drjakeyoung

      April 25th, 2013 - 4:50pm

The Tardis you are right. Only 2 episodes out of ten are 12’s. (unless the tenth planet latter this year is a twelve?)

    • Fled Frintstone

      April 26th, 2013 - 10:25pm

Logopolis and the uncut TV Movie are both rated 12 in the UK, rest are PG except Tenth Planet which was rated Universal back in 2002.

  • Sam Bentley

    April 25th, 2013 - 4:01pm
