I always use a company called newsstand to get my Dr Who Bookazines delivered and never had a problem with them yet.
You can set up a online advance order subscription and they deliver on the day of release.
Sorry to say it but the amount of times I’ve been to W.H.Smith’s and seen the odd copy on the shelf looking creased and battered because of folks picking up the mag without intent to buy and having a quick read and not putting it back on the shelf properly.
For a collector that is a big no no to buy a copy in bad condition and I think smiths or panini would be better off because of the price is more to put a wrap around the bookazine to stop people reading for free and spoiling the mags for genuine people who want to buy.

Turned up in the post this morning.

Given it a glance through. Looks to be the same standard as 1965 and 1974 Chronicles. Someone has been researching their ’80s metal groups.

As expected I’ve seen no sign of it in either WHSmiths or Tesco where I live. Decided instead to get it off Newsstand where they’ve got 30+ in stock

Be interesting to see what they have to say about the Five Doctors though I must admit to much preferring Peter’s third season. Now that would be a really interesting volume.

1983 the year of Longleat, BBC Who VHS Tapes, Breakfast Telly and the very first volume of Now That’s What I Call Music!. I have purchased the previous two volumes- both of which are great. I love the fact that you get a comprehensive run down on the show for each year and also a thorough overview of the Merchandise and Rival TV shows of the time. I think this issue will sell out very quickly.

I thought they’d go for 1985 next, covering the hiatus and a popular year of stories, but this is a welcome surprise. Surely 2020 has got to be on the table when this series forays into New Who.

Yes, I was thinking they had skipped a year with out any Dr Who.

    • Coleman

      September 8th, 2021 - 6:54pm

Was mixed up, because their hasn’t been any new Dr who on TV for well over a year and half.
But of course, forgot about series 12 right at the start of 2020. (Oh dear).

Are you joking about a 2020 Chronicle? Stuff with Jodie’s face on it just doesn’t sell, I didn’t think there was any doubt about that anymore.

I turned 14 between the end of Terminus and the beginning of Enlightenment – 1983 was such an exciting year to be a young, enthusiastic Doctor Who fan, as ‘someone – or something – from the Doctor’s past’ appeared in every episode – This pre-season hype fell a bit flat when I realised that for a number of episodes this merely meant a couple of scenes with the Black Guardian. I remember the wonder of that silvered cover for Target’s The Five Doctors and buying two copies of the Radio Times 20th Anniversary special so I could keep one in pristine condition. Then came November 25th …wow! SO many someones and somethings from the Doctor’s past… Looking forward to this edition.

Shaun i too remember buying that shiny Target Five doctors in Paperback, from WHsmiths, for the twentieth anniversary at the time. I also remember Target used to be crafty as well releasing some most wanted in hardback first. I remember them doing it with The Two doctors and i think The Twin Dilemma. I had to have them at the time, though they didn,t match neatly with all my other paperbacks.

Shaun and ergon, about that shiny silver Five Doctors Target paperback book you both mentioned. I had a similar paperback, but with a Chrome gold cover of Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was identical to the stardard version but printed on foil gold. Looked great on display.

I remember being shocked to see the Five Doctors book on the shelf in my local John Menzies before the special had aired. It took a lot of self control not to read it before seeing the show. Okay, I read the first page but that’s all. 83 was a confident, vintage year for Doctor Who.

Yeah I remember spoiling Return of the Jedi for myself the same year by reading the junior novelisation a few days before the cinema visit. Don’t do it kids!
