Candy Jar Announces Updated Paperback Edition of Exterminart! – Featuring Iconic Dalek Artwork
by Andrew Skilleter

“Daleks have always been a symbol of fear and fascination, and I’ve been fortunate enough to bring them to life in my own way over the years. This book is a tribute to that journey.”
Andrew Skilleter

Candy Jar is excited to announce the release of an updated paperback edition of Exterminart!, the popular art book by legendary Doctor Who artist Andrew Skilleter. Featuring a menagerie of Dalek artwork from across Skilleter’s illustrious career, this Dalektable new edition includes three brand new Dalek illustrations.

Andrew Skilleter is best known for his evocative covers for the Doctor Who Target novelisations in the 1980s. These covers have become a beloved part of Doctor Who history, particularly after the series disappeared from British screens in 1989. Exterminart! offers fans an intimate look into Skilleter’s creative process, and is the ultimate collection of his Dalek artwork over the past forty-five years.

First published in hardback in 2021, Exterminart! presented a curated collection of Skilleter’s Dalek artwork produced between 1979 and 2020. This 2025 paperback edition includes new artwork, rare sketches, and intimate commentary, offering fans the most complete collection of Skilleter’s Dalek illustrations to date. The book also includes a thoughtful foreword by Dalek author John Peel.

Andrew Skilleter explains: “My motivation for compiling this book was simple: to give fans a chance to see my work in one place, spanning decades. It’s about the journey I’ve had with the Daleks, and the fans who’ve supported me throughout it all. The new images in this edition are my way of paying tribute to these iconic characters that have stood the test of time.”

Skilleter’s professional Doctor Who artwork spans several decades, with more than forty covers for the Doctor Who Target Books novelisations, plus his contribution to official Doctor Who calendars, the legendary Who Dares poster prints, BBC VHS covers, and the first covers for the Doctor Who Virgin New Adventures series. His iconic Dalek imagery has inspired generations of fans, cementing his place as one of the most respected Doctor Who artists of all time.

Shaun Russell, Head of Publishing at Candy Jar, shares his excitement about the updated edition: “We’ve had the honour of publishing several incredible Doctor Who art books, but it’s always a special experience to work with someone like Andrew. His Dalek artwork is legendary, and with this new paperback edition, we’re giving fans a chance to experience it like never before. The addition of new art will make this an essential item for collectors.”

Great news for those who missed it the first time around. I wonder if they’d consider doing a reprint of the long out of print Illuminart Volume 1.
