uk-flag-small BBC SHOP – Doctor Who: The Drosten’s Curse Hardcover

Isn’t life terrible? Isn’t it all going to end in tears? Won’t it be good to just give up and let something else run my mind, my life?

Something distinctly odd is going on in Arbroath. It could be to do with golfers being dragged down into the bunkers at the Fetch Brothers’ Golf Spa Hotel, never to be seen again. It might be related to the strange twin grandchildren of the equally strange Mrs Fetch – owner of the hotel and fascinated with octopuses. It could be the fact that people in the surrounding area suddenly know what others are thinking, without anyone saying a word.

Whatever it is, the Doctor is most at home when faced with the distinctly odd. With the help of Fetch Brothers’ Junior Receptionist Bryony, he’ll get to the bottom of things. Just so long as he does so in time to save Bryony from quite literally losing her mind, and the entire world from destruction.

Because something huge, ancient and alien lies hidden beneath the ground – and it’s starting to wake up…

uk-flag-small The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who

uk-flag-small BBC SHOP -The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who

Doctor Who stories are many things: thrilling adventures, historical dramas, tales of love and war and jelly babies. They’re also science fiction – but how much of the science is actually real, and how much is really fiction?

The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who is a mind-bending blend of story and science that will help you see Doctor Who in a whole new light, weaving together a series of all-new adventures, featuring every incarnation of the Doctor. With commentary that explores the possibilities of time travel, life on other planets, artificial intelligence, parallel universes and more, Simon Guerrier and Dr Marek Kukula show how Doctor Who uses science to inform its unique style of storytelling – and just how close it has often come to predicting future scientific discoveries.

This book is your chance to be the Doctor’s companion and explore what’s out there. It will make you laugh, and think, and see the world around you differently.

Because anything could be out there. And going out is the only way to learn what it is.

    Here’s deep time synopsis

    Deep Time By Trevor Baxendale
I do hope you’re all ready to be terrified!

The Phaeron disappeared from the universe over a million years ago. They travelled among the stars using roads made from time and space, but left only relics behind. But what actually happened to the Phaeron? Some believe they were they eradicated by a superior force… Others claim they destroyed themselves.

Or were they in fact the victims of an even more hideous fate?

In the far future, humans discover the location of the last Phaeron road – and The Doctor and Clara join the mission to see where the road leads. Each member of the research team knows exactly what they’re looking for —but only The Doctor knows exactly what they’ll find.

Because only The Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a monstrous secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in the deepest grave imaginable…

An original novel featuring The Twelfth Doctor and Clara, as played by Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.

The city-state of Varuz is failing. Duke Aurelian is the last of his line, his capital is crumbling, and the armies of his enemy, Duke Conrad, are poised beyond the mountains to invade. Aurelian is preparing to gamble everything on one last battle. So when a holy man, The Doctor, comes to Varuz from beyond the mountains, Aurelian asks for his blessing in the war.

But all is not what it seems in Varuz. The city-guard have lasers for swords, and the halls are lit by electric candlelight. Aurelian’s beloved wife, Guena, and his most trusted knight , Bernhardt, seem to be plotting to overthrow their Duke, and Clara finds herself drawn into their intrigue…

Will The Doctor stop Aurelian from going to war? Will Clara’s involvement in the plot against the Duke he discovered? Why is Conrad’s ambassador so nervous? And who are the ancient and weary knights who arrive in Varuz claiming to he on a quest for the Holy Grail…?

Well from reading the Death Pit it does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, so The Drosten’s Curse could be a continuation of that story. Whether you need to read Death Pit to understand it is something to consider.

Heroes & Monsters certainly sounds interesting. I wonder where the short stories included originate from? It only has a £6.99 price tag after all. I’m glad to see there is an exclusive War Doctor story included, especially after being omitted from the 12 Doctors, 12 Stories range.

Booboo is the blurb for ‘The Drosten’s Curse’ 16/7/15 correct? Because that is actually the “Time Trips” AL Kennedy’s ‘The Death Pit’ short story? Does that mean they have just re-named the story & expanded it for a full-length novel?

dont know its the same blurb that’s on the publishers website http://www.eburypublishing.co.uk/editions/doctor-who-the-drostens-curse/9781849908269

One would think that if the story was expanded and released on it’s own, then it would still be called The Death Pit – or at most ‘The Death Pit: Extended’. But I don’t know, I haven’t read it so I don’t know it ‘Drosten’s Curse’ has anything to do with the story.

No word back from the Publisher (No surprise there really, just ignorance) So I did some further digging & according to The TARDIS Library at Timelash, ‘The Drosten’s Curse’ is intended as a follow-up to A.L. Kennedy’s novella ‘The Death Pit’

That short story (Originally an e-book) featured a companionless 4th. Doctor set after “The Deadly Assassin” which was published in the short story collection ‘Time Trips’

      March 17th, 2015 - 11:56am

Oddly enough it’s literally The Death Pit from the Time Trips series in 2013. I hope its just an error, I’m going to be more than a little perturbed if we’re cheated out of a new past Doctor novel again this year. As much as I liked Engines of War, I was disappointed that it meant we wouldn’t be getting a story from an actual classic Doctor. Stretching out an existing short story that only just came out in print feels like an even bigger cheat. Also annoyed at the lack of new print tie in novels. I hope this means another batch of reprints this year, rather than those reference and sticker books filled with fluff. Also this comment got out of hand, as i only meant to point a small thing out and turned into a rant over something I didn’t know I was that annoyed over. Oops.
