Doctor Who Season 1 DVD
Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk and www.rarewaves.com
The upcoming season of Doctor Who starring Ncuti Gatwa & Millie Gibson follows the Doctor and his companion Ruby Sunday as they travel across time and space, with adventures all the way from the Regency era in England, to war-torn future worlds.
Throughout their adventures in the TARDIS – a time-travelling ship shaped like a police box – they encounter incredible friends and dangerous foes, including a terrifying bogeyman, and the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.

April 27th, 2024 - 10:17pmdazzler releases more bbc shows on dvd than bbc themselves these days ikve noticed.I love dazzler As long as they keep releasing anything with david tennant in also my secret shames of michael palin and simon reeve documentaries i’m happy. lol

April 27th, 2024 - 11:11pmThe good thing about Dazzler is that they try to release a blu-ray where possible/financially viable, whereas Auntie’s default is dvd only (even after the move to Spirit doing the work). “Secret shames” are meant to be embarrassing though, not things of quality/worth/merit. If those documentaries are now things to be embarrassed about then society is really screwed…

April 27th, 2024 - 11:34pmI’m surprised people do buy the dvds still. Personally I want the best quality so HD on Blu-ray it is.
There are fans out there who will buy all 3 versions though especially the animations (DVD, standard BR and Steelbook).

April 28th, 2024 - 12:22amOf course. And since I’m on the other side of the ocean, I’m very grateful they still produce them. I can play all DVDs. But my Blu-ray player only plays r1 discs, and I don’t want to wait an entire year for the local release. (I’m already frustrated enough that we still don’t have the latest Peter Davison set lol.)

April 29th, 2024 - 5:14pmI imagine a lot of younger kids would have smaller tvs in their bedrooms, so the upswing in picture quality to blu ray would make less sense. Same for some elderly people.

April 29th, 2024 - 5:41pmTo be honest RP I’m not massively concerned about the picture quality. The DVDs are a massive improvement on the vhs tapes an I’m happy with that. Plus I’m not to bothered by the extras these days. Happy to watch what is on the DVDs but the bluray collections hours and hours of extras just don’t appeal. I’ve bought these stories on vhs and DVD and the idea of paying for them again and sitting watching them all again waiting for the faults to show up doesn’t excite me! For those who want bluerays, absolutely fine, but I’ll stick to the DVDs thank you.

April 30th, 2024 - 11:34amI’m currently getting the DVDs off the odd seasons that ain’t realised yet in blu ray but once come out I will just sell them on too people who would rather still watch DVDs

April 30th, 2024 - 8:50pmI have a mixture of classic DVDs and some of the newer BD collections, and I’m happy with both. I see no need to replace the DVD seasons, unless the VAM/cgi additions of specific collection versions make it irresistible. I was watching a couple of Tom dvds some months back, digitally remastered of course, and I was sitting there thinking what a great picture, comparatively speaking, and wouldn’t you know it, simple pop in and play-no problems with difficult discs! I understand many people wanting higher quality BDs for nuWho, but for the classic range there’s nothing wrong with those
DVDs.

April 25th, 2024 - 11:08pmWhy number it Season 1? It’s not even Season 1 of the 2005 series. Definitely not Season 1 of the 1963 series. And why Season? I thought only we in the USA used that term and in Europe it was Series.
Rex F
April 26th, 2024 - 2:52amClassic Who has used the term “season” going back to the late 80s at least, possibly borrowing the term from American fans. Hence using it on all the UK Collection sets.
Calling this new Bad Wolf/Disney version ‘Season One’ differentiates it from the previous 2005 ‘Series One’, and they’re presumably starting again because it’s a new production and they also want it to be a shiny new, no baggage product.
Classic Who is presumably so unimportant now in sales terms, at least in its original season format, that they can keep those as “seasons” too without any issues arising. It also looks, in merchandise, like they’re having a numeral/word distinction.

April 26th, 2024 - 6:58amIt’ll quickly be abandoned, like when Moffat tried to do the same with his first season and no one was biting.
Anon
April 26th, 2024 - 9:31amSo the next season will be season 15? I doubt that Bobby. Season one is how this is marketed so it will not be dropped and the next season will be number two (however daft it is)
Bobby Davros
April 26th, 2024 - 5:25pmNah, posterity will call it Series 15, Anon. Bit daft to call eight episodes a season anyhow.
Anon
April 26th, 2024 - 6:20pmDoesn’t matter how many episodes there are, could be 13, could be 8, could be two it would still be a season.

April 26th, 2024 - 8:44pmThere are plenty of shows these days that get 6-8 episode seasons though. It’s becoming more and more the norm
Anon
April 27th, 2024 - 1:08amMost British comedies have 6 episodes and that’s a series/season
Rory
April 29th, 2024 - 11:36amDisney+ only have the new series starting from Ncuti. It is a lot easier to sell people on season 1, with a lot of backstory available commercially if you want it, than to sell series 14 but you don’t have access to the previous 13.
It’s a business decision, pure and simple, and if it brings in new viewers then fantastic. They can call it whatever they like, so long as it’s still Doctor Who.
