I’ve now watched the first five discs (it arrived Saturday) and I have loved it. I wasn’t convinced by the first few episodes on broadcast but then I enjoyed the series as it went on but watching them all again I loved it. There are some interesting points made in the commentaries and extras as well. Just the 8 unleashed episodes and tales of the TARDIS to go.

My Steelbook came this morning in a Brown Paper Envelope (No Padding even). I wish they would always send these Steelbooks in Cardboard Sleeves, since they cost so much.

Mine arrived from Amazon today. Very surprised as it’s still showing due for Monday.
It’s lovely. Picture quality is sharp and the colours pop. The show looks so much better than on iPlayer.

Hi Bookcollector. I have seen your reply thanks. Its not unbearable on the book. It’s really noticeable flicking the pages. You can see the border move in and out and then start going slanted! I think I can live with it.

Mine arrived this morning from Zavvi. I usually preorder from Amazon but they stopped sending – me, at least – releases early a long time ago and Season 15 arrived a day late so I can live with Zavvi’s delivery charge.

For people complaining about the price of £59.99 please remember that the retail for this is £89.99 which is what it is being sold for by some shops (galaxy 4 reduced to £69.99, speedyhen etc.) The average film release for bluray is £14.99-17.99 for a single release so 7 discs for £59.99 is still good value.

Yes, A Gorgeous cover indeed. Just browsing Ebay today and a Guy is selling these. (He as about 10 in stock). I thought I’m sure it’s not out yet so I checked my Amazon account and sure enough it’s not out while next month. I thought they must be Pre-Orders so I checked his site on Ebay again and there’s no mention of Pre-Orders, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

Largest type of standard steelbook is a stacker case but it’s only designed to hold 6 discs, 3 either side. I’m wondering what’s gonna happen with the extra disc, hope they’re not just gonna force it in.

Thanks for this really helpful breakdown Gordon. Do you know if all the special features on the individual release of Church on Ruby Road are also on this set? Assuming you mean Rarewaves, they also charge on dispatch. It’s all in the relevant T&C/FAQ sections of the two retailers, as are the slightly different rules for PayPal. You really should be reading this stuff before you order anywhere, and immediate charge for a preorder doesn’t always guarantee a copy anyway.

Judging by the lack of comments / interest and given the asking price of this l just don’t see it selling out, there’s every chance it will be on a discount by the time Black Friday arrives.
I would imagine a re-release of 1, 2 or 9 would sell out faster, Marvel are doing well at eroding their loyal fan base and l really hope the Beeb don’t do the same with Who.

It’s sold over 1 thousand on Amazon already so it will sell out. The steelbooks always do. People will be waiting to see some of the episodes no doubt.

As for the price. It isn’t really expensive as it is 9 episodes. The 60th steelbook was £30 for just 3 episodes back in December and that sold out.

There is confusion over this. Amazon say yes, other retailers say no it’s not on. The run time seems to contradict the inclusion of church. We know episode one is 55 mins assuming the other 7 are 45 mins that makes 6hrs 10 mins.

    • Anon

      April 28th, 2024 - 3:59pm

I don’t know why people are finding this hard to get. Run times on DVDs never include extras. Just go and look at your shelves and you will see that. A two hour movie with three hours of extras has a runtime listed of two hours.
The 60th anniversary set has a runtime of 171 minutes or in other words, the episodes, the extras are not listed as part of that runtime. The season episodes must have dropped from Jodie’s longer episode lengths back to the average of 46 mins they had originally when the show came back.

As per iplayer. Classic Who is 1963-1996. Modern Who is 2005 to 2022. New Who is 2023 onwards.

Disney+ only has 2023 onwards so could be potentially daunting for a new viewer seeing Series 14 listed and thinking they are 13 series behind which are not available on the same platform.

Makes sense to reset to Season 1. Fresh start as the 60th Specials were a soft launch. And a new fan can delve into the shows history if they want to once they are hopefully invested in the new show.

Either way it is all Doctor Who no matter what you call it. Some classic fans say it is Season 40 for example.

    • Harold Shand

      April 26th, 2024 - 11:08am

I can see the disney thing, so I guess it makes sense.

Though New Who is now Modern Who………to make way for the ‘new’ New Who.

I like the way old shows are now called ‘Classic’, so I may adopt that to describe myself.

Tell the kids I am not OLD, i am CLASSIC.

The 60th Specials last year was £30 for just 3 episodes though so not too bad really, maybe.
