The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

The Doctor’s multipurpose tool is a Gallifreyan device, with numerous settings, easily controlled at the press of his thumb. The Doctor has had many sonic screwdrivers of different designs throughout his life, and this latest one was created from within the TARDIS console itself after the previous one was destroyed during a confrontation with Prisoner Zero in the village of Leadworth. This new sonic is larger, with a luminous green light but continues to be an essential part of the Doctor’s equipment as he explores the universe. This faithful copy of the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Device has spring loaded extending action. Pressing the button on the side of the handle activates the LED and Sound FX which operates in CLOSED mode. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode.

The top half of my Sonic Screwdriver (where it pops up) won’t stay closed. It’s kind of annoying and if anybody could help, it would be much appreciated.

Take it apart. The parts that interlock with the handle and the part that pops out may have some breaks in it. Mine does that and those interlocking parts are chipped. I super glues parts back together. Just be careful afterwards. Hope this helps.

mine does that too and it is starting me to get annoyed and it is making me thinki should get David Tennant’s sonic screwdriver. can you please tell me how to fix the extension button because every time i try to get the sonic screwdriver closed it keeps popping back into the extension position without me touching the button to extend it.

I think I’ve got it cracked! I think if you just twist the orange part on the top, clockwise. (Clockwise if you were looking at it from above) and it just secures it! It’s rather hard to explain, but I may as well put it here anyway.

Take the top half off like how you would to change the bataries and put it aside then prise the top ring off with a flat bladed knife or kitchen knife. Then put the gold ring aside. Next you will do the same the end cap where the big red button is and put it aside then the screwdriver’s base should split in two then remove the red button assembly. Then remove the spring. Then put the red button back into the toy put the end cap back on again and the gold ring and put the imiter back in and you’ve fixed it now you can flick it instead of a

I got one of these for Christmas, it’s my favorite version of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver (in the TV Series), and this does it justice! My only problem is that you can’t use the button on the black part when it’s extended. Aside from that one flaw, definately a great piece of merchandise!

You aren’t supposed to be able to press the button while it’s opened; you’re really supposed to use it while it’s shut and then “examine the data” while it’s opened. That’s what the doctor does.

Hey I just got one last friday. It does have the hidden sounds but I havent used much since it might burn the sound chip. Does it still do that or can I use it at my own will. i have the same issue. I’m scared of breaking or burning the sound chip. I’ve seen videos of the earlier ones burning out the second you use it. I got mine Christmas 2013 with a different packaging so I’m assuming it the newest version but I’m still a bit nervous. I’ve used the hidden sounds a bit and no issue other than the bottom cap but that’s about it. I wanted to see if any of the new ones have burned and if i should treat my sonic like a baby and rarely enjoy it.

I just brought mine. It’s awesome, but I can’t figure out how to close it back. I mean, I opened it to install the batteries, but now I can’t lock it close, so when I extend it, it wants to pop out! I place it like it’s suppose to be, but it doesn’t want to turn and lock. I had bought my one, a VERY LONG time ago, back when Series 5 was still on the air.

I only got it open and made on Christmas eve this year, because I gave up trying to find “l 1154 type batteries” which don’t exist !! ❗

And so I just use the so-called demo-batteries.

You know the buil-your-own-sonic ? Does it include demo batteries for all of them or just one set ?

Those batteries are rubbish value, it’s like, 1.39 for a pack which has one, and I need about four in every Sonic ! 😡 ❗ BooBoo ??

My Sonic survived for a year, than it refused to pop back into place, and stayed in “OPEN” mode. 😥
Does anyone know how to fix it, i used a lighter to burn plastic on to green plastic below the gold, then i sanded it so it could it could still be pushed into “CLOSED” mode. It helps a bit.

Is the problem that when you put it back in it won’t stay there or is it that it refuses to go back in whatsoever? If it is the first problem then you will just have to put your thumb over on to the crissed-crossed section and hold it there and release it when you want it to go up.

    • Dalek Sec

      April 12th, 2012 - 11:33am

Its the first problem, but i want it to stick in by itself, not with me constantly holding it. I think a bit in the bottom part of the sonic is sanded off.
      Thanks anyway.

    • Space Fish

      April 29th, 2012 - 11:54am

Just mended this. I sellotaped a golden thingy-madodab that was used to seal a packet of jelly beans to the electronic section. One end goes onto the base of the top bit and the other on the side, near the grooves to insert. This keeps it in place and makes it so that it will only open when you flick it, like in the show! (The top button will no longer work)

And if you carry on flicking and closing it, the sound effects will work again!

    • Dalek Sec

      May 8th, 2012 - 7:10am

Thanxs, i might buy another one, but considering other peoples sonics broke down a month before they were taken out of the packet, my survived and still is sutaining a lot of damage. The Sonic only stays closed when you press the middle button while in closed position. I found tape did the trick but that was annoying. Anyway it lights up when i push the sonic halfway in, doesn’t really have the fun of flicking the sonic up with the button. But Who really needs buttons. 🙂

      August 5th, 2014 - 6:59pm

I had your problem as well. i looked into some videos of how to fix it, but no one every had the correct solution. what i did was: on the handle part of the sonic, the ring on the top of the leather and the cap on the bottom can come off. i used a flat head but you can use whatever just be careful. the top ring came off easily but the bottom cap was a little harder. you’ve got to slowly and carefully pry them off. Next was i did was discard the top button, the one that releases the top part, and took out the red button and the spring system.

    • MadManInABox

      August 5th, 2014 - 7:03pm

I then proceed to take some magnets. I had a small cylinder magnet, that was wider then tall and clued that onto the bottom of the green “stem” on the top part. I then used on half of the sonic and put in another magnet. these magnets were a circle and i could cut them so i took three and trimmed them to fit inside the handle and put them on top of each other. i then put the magnets down where the magnet on the bottom of the stem would sit when it was closed. i then took a strip of magnet tape, trimmed it and made a circle of magnetism just

    • MadManInABox

      August 5th, 2014 - 7:05pm

Underneath the button to activate the sonic when closed. with the magnets at the bottom of the sonic, you’ll want to glue them to the little “spine” down there so they don’t move. i had a problem that they would com undone and i couldn’t close the sonic and i had to open it time after time to put the magnets back in place. after i glued them i didn’t have to worry about it. I then covered everything on the handle with black electrical tape. even the one button left over. gives the handle a much better feel and hides things better while one
