The Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver

Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver Blasts into Character Options’ Collection

After months of speculation it is now official, the Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver is to be part of the Character Options’ toy collection.

The first images have been released with confirmation that the eagerly awaited Sonic will be on sale within weeks!

sonic-1

This new toy version is a faithful recreation of the current Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver which debuted in the Series 9 Episode ‘Hell Bent’.

This is the first Sonic to have 4 light modes and four sound FX. The model has been designed as a replica from the Series 9 Prop.

sonic-2

As all fans would know, the Doctor has carried many Sonic Screwdrivers of various designs throughout his lifetimes, ranging from a simple silver coloured tube to more complex illuminated and articulated versions.

sonic-3

This second Sonic for the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, was ‘gifted’ to him by the TARDIS itself after his previous version was lost.

Although we are yet to discover all of the new Sonic’s abilities, like the Doctor himself, it has become ever more complex and mysterious.

sonic-5

This multipurpose tool features numerous settings and can open most locks, detect all manner of deadly rays, read bio-signs and generate Sonic waves of great power.

Alasdair Dewar, Head of Product Development at Character Options commented:

“Since this Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver appeared at the end of series 9, we have been inundated by fan requests to produce a toy replica as part of our toy range. We are therefore very proud to finally be able to reveal it. The Sonic Screwdriver has historically been one of the most sought after toys for fans and collectors alike and we hope they will be as delighted with it as we are.”

The Character Options’ Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver costs just SRP £14.99

For a limited time only, exclusively on the Doctor Who Shop (USA and Canada), fans will receive a Gift with Purchase – one pack of three exclusive trading cards from the Twelfth Doctor’s limited edition set – with the new Sonic Screwdriver, while supplies last.

Just to say, you should definitely ring up your local Toysrus even if the online stock checker says no.
Ask when they’re next having a delivery because it could very well be coming with that one, when I rang up they even had a list of things that were coming with it and the Sonic was on the list.
I had to ring up the next day when they actually had the delivery, but the man who answered was very nice and went searching the freshly delivered stock to find one for me and put it back.

      1. 11th
      2. 4th
      3. I might actually give this spot to 12’s. I still think the lower half could be better, but god I love that rotating blue light on the upper part. It’s stuck with me ever since he caught the Sonic in the show, and it’s even more awesome to do it myself on the toy.

What a delightful surprise! A new Sonic Screwdriver just announced on Thursday and released on Friday! Went to my local Toys R’ Us on Friday morning to pick mine up before they sold out (which seems to have happened now). I’m going to a convention in a couple of weeks time so it will go down very well with my Twelfth Doctor Cosplay!

I went to TRU in Preston today and they didn’t have any but they said that they’re getting a Lorry full of stuff tomorrow so fingers crossed (they haven’t had any there yet so feeling hopeful).

Just a public service announcement. The TRU on Old Kent Rd have three 12th Doctor sonics left… I had so much trouble dealing with Click and Collect.. Two instances where my request was was cancelled after a ‘your stock is ready for pickup’ email after I had made my travels to the shops. As a tourist here for the weekend was public transport. Happy to finally have one in my hand… It’s wonderful!

    Anyways, 3 left!!!

A question to Booboo relating to merchendise. I love the List feature for figures and DVDs on this site, handy little check list. I was curious to know if you were considering updating this, with stuff like audios, graphic novels, books, merchandise (such as this sonic), and some more figures. because that would totally be awesome!

to be honest we had been looking at a complete overall with lists with much more info for figures and once we had done that look at other things

unfortunately we needed some things that weren’t forthcoming and other things got in the way, over time we might try to do something though

    • Greg

I used the click and collect feature on the website. I must’ve reserved it around midday I’d say. I can’t be 100% sure as I’ve deleted the text from Toys R us.

On second thoughts, I might still have an email. Let me check…

its depends of if they have had the whole delivery or just an advanced part shipment, they should not have sold out already my gut felling it will be back up soon but its grabbing it whilst its there

Do you think this will come to Smyths Toys? My nearest TRU is sold out and over an hour away anyway. I need to see this in person before i completly deside on buying.

Also just found my 11th Doctor Sonic and the sound has gone. Low battery most likely. But decided to order the single button 12th Doctor version!!! Can’t wait for it to turn up!
