DATA…

Ice Warrior Lord Izlyr

From ‘The Curse of Peladon’ 1972

“You say you see this monster when there is no monster. You are trying to trick us.”

The Doctor and Jo make a test flight in the TARDIS and arrive on the planet Peladon. Materialising on the edge of a cliff below a castle, they barely leave the ship before it tumbles over the edge. Seeking help, they enter the citadel of the soon-to-be-crowned King Peladon, where the Doctor is mistaken for a human dignitary summoned to act as Chairman of a committee assessing an application by the planet to join the Galactic Federation.

The other committee members made up of Alpha Centauri, Arcturus, the Martian Lord Izlyr and his Warrior subordinate Ssorg have already arrived, but are disconcerted by the death of one of the King’s advisors, Chancellor Torbis. High Priest Hepesh, who opposes the union with the Federation, attributes Torbis’s death to the Curse of Aggedor, the Royal Beast of Peladon. Other incidents occur and the Doctor concludes that a saboteur is at work.

    Dough Who and Ergon,
Since there isn’t alot going on, on the Robert Harrop front at the moment. Decided to start making my own Kandyman. Was in two minds about Eaglemoss or Robert Harrop scale and finally decided to do the latter.
There’s still plenty to do, but I’ve made a 8 inch wire armature then bulked it up with tinfoil to save on clay. Using FIMO because of the porcelain finish it leaves when baked in oven. Already moulded the basic shape but now begins the tricky detailing.
If you read this let me know how your getting on.

Loving the finished and painted sculpts of the Axon monster and Axon man.
The 1st ones been delayed until next year and the latters not released until the end of November.
    But they still look great.

Not sure what’s going on at Robert Harrop, but according to there site the Axon monsters been cancelled until next year and the only other figure there making this year is the Axon man and isn’t released until end of November.
Hope they don’t go bust like alot of other company’s.

If they have been sensible like many other companies they will have had some staff on furlough for the maximum amount of time to ensure survival along with dealing with the inevitable absentees in a pandemic.

The net result of that of course as with many companies will mean delays, compromises and rescheduling – something many people dont take into account with their constant negativity that’s plaguing this site on virtually every post at the moment.

Things aren’t normal out their – for ALL retailers and manufacturers.

If you just look on their Facebook Page, (you don,t have to be part of facebook) and even comments here you would have known about The Axon Creature coming next and The Axon Man either End of October/ November with an unpainted first look Picture. The finished Pieces should be up anytime soon in the next week or so. The axon creature is highly detailed and another must have if like me you just collect the monsters. Lord Izlyr should be here in the next week or so, Usually despatched before they put up the next figurine.

Scale wise, I think the Axon monster will be a bit of a bruiser. Around size of the Yeti, can’t see it being much smaller though.

I reckon standard size but i have full confidence those tendrils will be perfectly packed, though how the those antennae on those cybermats made it through without breaking was short of a miracle given how fragile they were.

Really pleased with the first look of The Axon Creature. can,t wait for the finished pictures to go up for that and accompanying Axon man which is due at the end of october/November.
if they could release these per story or even as doubles to speed the process up a little. Us older fans like to collect these, i,d like to collect as many of these before i fall off this mortal coil.

I think they’ll alter the shade of green before we get our copies. I noticed my Aggedor is a darker brown (thus more realistic) than the one used for promotion.

    • the ergon

      August 2nd, 2020 - 12:38pm

J,adore my Aggedor. A lot more subtle than the eaglemoss version which even now might have looked less inferior had they scaled down the size. This was one of a few cases where they didn,t quite get it right. Not that Harrops always work either and yes i think Izlyr could do with toning down a bit before release on reflection.

      Yes Ergon.
That was an easy fix for them that wouldn’t have cost anymore money for them, they wouldn’t have swapped the antennae, just straightened original ones with pliers. Pewter is very pliable.
Done it myself with there Daleks eye and Davros’s head wires which came to me bent in transit.

I really think this is where they are missing out on sales. I got all of them until my nearest stockist closed Xmas 2017. 250 copies is not enough. 750 was obviously too many, but there are quite a few sensible numbers in between so I have missed out on 2.5 years of product, as have many other collectors no doubt. Things like this should not be so limited.

This is how the character looked in ‘Curse of Peladon’ – I initially thought Izlyr wore boots too but I checked and it’s only in ‘Monster of Peladon’ where the Ice Lord, Azaxyr in that case, wears boots.

I think we should give credit that the sculptors for these figurines do their research although occasionally they use artistic license, such as the claws on Aggedor’s feet.

I thought the same initially but no Izlyr didn’t have boots – that was Azaxyr.

Another really nice sculpt I think. The Aggedor figurine arrived earlier this week and it’s fantastic – although the feet are clawed in their version not that it detracts at all. Much truer to the TV character that the Eaglemoss one in my opinion.

Commander Azaxyr wore boots in Monster of Peladon but Slaar didn’t in Seeds of Death.

Can’t find a decent shot from Curse to see if it was boots or “shoes”

Harrop normally take great care in their attention to detail so would be out of the norm for an error like this to be made..not sure if they also have to run their prototypes past the Beeb before making them.
