Full Details: Five Brand New ‘Vortex’ Sets Plus The Collect & Build ‘Yeti’

Character Options introduces its first Doctor Who Collect & Build range in 17 years

Character Options has confirmed it is to release a Doctor Who Collect & Build range for the first time since 2009. The line will be made up of five exclusive “Vortex” Edition sets, with each box to include a part of a buildable character. Fans who collect all pieces from across the five packs will be able to complete a scaled replica of the ‘Yeti’ from 1967’s ‘The Abominable Snowmen’.

These sets will be available exclusively through www.character-online.com and will be launched at planned intervals from July.

The 2026 Collect & Build offering recognises some of Doctor Who’s most memorable chapters, with five iconic Vortex Edition characters to discover – plus the buildable Yeti. In order of their release, the sets are as follows:

  • 1. Cybermen Set -with Yeti Head
  • 2. Fifteenth Doctor Set – with Yeti Upper Torso
  • 3. Fourth Doctor Set – with Yeti Legs and Feet
  • 4. Season Seven Set – with Yeti Right Arm
  • 5. Wirrn Set – with Yeti Left Arm

The Collect & Build ‘Abominable Snowman’ figure

The Abominable Snowmen Story from 1967 introduced the titular character, also known as a ‘Yeti’ to an audience that would go on to become fans and collectors. It was so memorable upon its initial appearance, that it spawned a second story the next year and is still beloved by fans 5 decades later. Now figure collectors have the chance to collect this large figure standing nearly 16 and a half centimetres tall, with multiple articulation points.

The complete ‘Yeti’ buildable figure can be completed only by collecting the individual body sections spread across the five Vortex releases for this year. The figure has a lot of moulded in details, not least the fur effect that has been achieved using a base mould colour plus multiple sprays and washes. The head features the eyes and prominent fangs of the original Yeti that were near impossible to see on-screen, but were unmissable in a behind the scenes documentary of the story creation.

“Something bigger and better with a modern take”

Al Dewar, Creative Director, Character Options, said: “This is a very interesting year for the Character Options Doctor Who range. It’s the first time we’ve introduced a Collect & Build figure for over a decade and a half. Plus, for the very first time we are showcasing the sets that we will be releasing up front!

“The Collect & Build Yeti figure should be a great surprise to most folk. Yes… it’s been well known for years that we created a Yeti sculpt for the ‘1968 Web of Fear’ version but when we examined that sculpt, we realised the scale was wrong and some minor damage had occurred. So, it seemed sensible to go back further to where it all started, up in Tibet, near the ‘Det Sen’ Monastery in 1967, with the original Abominable Snowmen. The Yetis are ‘big ole beasts!’ and I think we’ve brought something bigger and better with a modern take that lends itself well to articulation and play.

“Of course, the Collect & Build figure is just one of many things to look forward to, with five stunning new figure sets coming through – all upgraded to Vortex levels. Even the pre-existing Liz Shaw figure has been refined to be as good as it can be! The team has put their all into getting everything ready in time, and we can’t wait to bring the collectors something that’s so completely different.”

Further information on the collection is now available on the Character Online website, where fans can also register to receive pre‑launch updates. More details on each Collect & Build set will be revealed in the lead‑up to each release, with the first set launching from July 2026, exclusively via www.character-online.com
(RRP £44.99).

Seen one or two comments where people think this site assumed the £44.99 price tag – this is not correct, the price is quoted in the official press release from CO’s PR company which has been fully copied above.

Assuming it’s a twin-pack, it’s a shame the Cyberman set isn’t a three-pack considering we previously got three Silurians for £30, it seems unfortunate that they couldn’t just add in an extra one considering this set is 50% more expensive. I guess the prices have gone up but still. Actually the Silurians weren’t entirely new sculpts thinking about it so perhaps that’s a reasonable explanation.

There isn’t actually any price listed in the announcement.

From tdws, yes there was, RRP 44.99 quoted in the official; press release.

      Rest of comment removed.

No, that’s the price and they are all going to be that same price. The pricing has been explained a number of times, and ultimately 4 and 15 come with the largest parts of the Yeti.

The part that comes with the Fourth Doctor weighs over half a kilo. That’s more plastic than the combined weight (including packaging) of your typical B&M three pack right there.

    • FH

      April 28th, 2026 - 7:24pm

If the weight of the Yeti plastic is being taking into account for the price then it kind of makes the argument of I’ve seen people post ‘you’re basically getting a Yeti for free for collecting all the sets’ irrelevant.

    • Scotel

      April 28th, 2026 - 7:26pm

Of course the Yeti is included in the price, they aren’t giving it away for free.

    • Scotel

      April 28th, 2026 - 8:15pm

Bear in mind that “piece of a figure” is over three times larger than a usual figure.

If you aren’t happy with the pricing then that’s your business but it’s not an unreasonable price given what’s included.

I wonder if Character will consider allowing overseas buyers to buy them all together to help save on what would otherwise be astronomical shipping costs for one wave. Traditionally, collect and build waves come out together, so people can buy the whole batch. and get the bigger figure. But they’re releasing these monthly. And judging from how quickly recent sets have sold out, it’s likely that at least some of these set will sell out before they’re all released.

They currently charge 24 UK pounds for shipping one set to the US, which is a lot for sets that cost 45 pounds! But if we have to buy all five sets separately, that would add another 120 POUNDS to the cost of the wave!

And many of you are complaining about having to pay 225 pounds. Imagine us, being stuck with 345 for the wave!!! (Never mind the exchange rate!) That’s going to keep many of us from being able to buy it, or at least to have to pick and choose one or two to buy.

It’s the same if I want to buy an action figure from the US, I have to put high postal charges

    • booboo

      April 28th, 2026 - 10:42am

no longer about postage sadly, new USA Safety and labelling regulations make it unviable for CO them selves to post to USA as things stand.

      Agreed 100%.

Shipping the Tegan set to Australia cost me £24. Given these will be heavier, let’s say it’s £30 per figure. So that’s a total shipping cost of £150!!! And I don’t even want the 15th Doctor or Modern Cybermen (Why is Al blending old and new? I’ve been told to go and touch grass and I did, I’m only here for the Classics)

That is just prohibitively expensive for Internationals. I’m all out.

    • Scotel

      April 30th, 2026 - 1:47pm

Because they’ve got a limited mumber of releases and modern fans (not to mention the BBC) would be complaining if they did exclusively classics for a whole year just to satisfy a limited number of collectors.

Just for info that down the thread pages.

The 4th Doctor Figure info from AL

      4th Doctor extras
Soft goods scarf (its sits better in loop form )
      Shada Waistcoat
Tartan Vest/Tank top and red cravat
      ‘Stop!’ hand
      Cupped Hand
      Jelly Babies
      Sonic Screwdriver
      Alternative Head without hat
      Alternative Head with hat

So lots of work: design, paint apps, plastic, pain, sculpting. Boxing. I think the range might very well absorb all costs I to the same price for each package

      It can’t be a Metebelis 3 crystal…..not with Liz Shaw stuff….
I would love one though, with a Jon Pertwee and a Queen Spider set perhaps…

I’ts pretty suprising they’ve never done a series 4 Rose tbh, I’m sure all they’d have to do is put a Rose head on a repainted Martha leather jacket body? I’m most probably simplifying it though haha.

I am very happy to hear after many, many, many years of waiting, we are finally getting Moffat Era Cybermen and a Yeti Figure.

I will definitely be purchasing these figures to build that amazing BAF Figure.

I am assuming it will be £44.99 for all sets, which is fair enough. Unfortunately we are not in the RTD1 Merchandise “Glory Days” era of 2006-2009, where figures were £6.99 and could be bought in most high street retailers – these are definitely a collectors market now, so the price point is completely understandable.

I still hold out hopes of two Wheel in Space Cybermen…..

Think they might have missed a trick not giving the Fourth Doctor a tracer and Key to Time accessory as his Shada costume is pretty much the same as the one worn in The Stones of Blood and The Androids of Tara. He wore a white cravat in The Ribos Operation and The Pirate Planet, but an open collared shirt in the next two stories.

Some great releases there but its a bit naughty having parts of an iconic monster spread over sets forcing the buyer to get them all if they want the Yeti. For me I have no interest whatsoever with the fifteenth Doctor. So do I buy the Gatwa set just to get the Yeti ? I suppose I could sell the rest of that set at a discount price.

That’s idea this is the best chance of getting figures like this as a collect and build and yeah you can always sell on what you don’t want for some reason people don’t like putting in a little work it’s possible to get every set free if you invest in two and sell one spilt up there’s figures I wouldn’t want to get but will buy them anyway as it’s a different figure for the collection if this sells well which it should imagine what we could get next year

Totally agree! I actually want two Yeti though, and have a feeling there’ll be parts on ebay, lol! It’s a great set and can’t wait for it to start! Hope there’s still B&M sets to come though.

And booboo, thanks for deleting the gatekeeping comment, and my comment from last night, really appreciate it.

As nice as these sets are, i do feel that sometimes i am having my pocket picked. (Another 4th Doctor – if in the Wirrn set i could swallow but on his own……….)

However, it is my choice to buy these or not. Though wanting a Yeti means buying things i would never normally consider.

Maybe a collect and build for new series and the same for classic would be fairer. I am guessing that many fans prefer one to the other, but at same time I guess there is a large proportion of fans who enjoy the entire series new and old.

Unfortunately you can’t please all the people all of the time.

Not to sure if this has been mentioned or asked. Did the Master set get restocked? or is it due to be restocked?

I am excited for the new build-a-figure series for the challenge alone. I’m definitely going for The Fifteenth Doctor and Mr. Ring-a-ding three-pack! But thinking about the rest because £45 is a lot for each set and having to buy them all to get the Yeti is going to cost nearly £300.

Plus to be honest, don’t get me wrong I love the classic series, but wish they would focus new figures on new Who characters. The build-a-figure series could have been focused on the new Sutekh which could have fitted over the new TARDIS. Each figure could have been unreleased characters like Donna Noble, Wilf Mott, Kate Stewart, Mel, a regeneration two-pack, The Toymaker, Maestro, Mrs. Flood, The Rani and even Belinda! Maybe one day, but that’s why I’ll probably be giving this a miss.

I mean, if they want to have to offer every item for half price after 4 months and go out of business I guess doing entirely new series is an option, sure.

    • The Outcast

      April 22nd, 2026 - 1:24pm

The Yeti is half the size of CGI Sutekh – heck, even Bessie would be smaller. There’s no way in hell they’d have been able to do Season 1 Sutekh in any version of this wave.

As for the rest of those characters, they’re basically all just average looking people – there’s no variety there – here we’ve got the insectoid Wirrn, the big Yeti, robotic Cybermen, Mr Ring-A-Ding and Dugga-Doo, the bestial Primord – a lot of different shapes and colours, not just regular looking people in different costumes.

Not saying the characters you’ve suggested are bad picks, it’d be nice to see the lot of them, but just doing humans and that’s it? Nah, that’d be awful, no variety there. The shelves would look bland.

    • toptimelord

      April 22nd, 2026 - 2:34pm

FH, I’m not suggesting everything should be half price. However I did just buy the recently reduced Wrarth Warriors twin-pack. But £300 for a new set of action figures is a lot of money which a lot of young collectors like myself can’t afford. But I would just like to see more new Who characters on the market.

    • toptimelord

      April 22nd, 2026 - 2:59pm

The Outcast, I hope one day a build-a-figure of Sutekh can be possible to build around the TARDIS already on the market. Hollow parts including legs, arms, torso and head could be done across a series of figures. Around the same scale with the already released Empress Of Rachnoss.

I personally would prefer more important human characters from the Whoniverse to classic aliens. I’m not intrested in a Wirrn and we’ve already had countless Cybermen. Ncuti and Tom have been done before multiple times before. So we only have one new human figure with Liz Shaw, and her hairy chap. Toy shop shelves don’t stock Doctor Who figures anymore, so no need to have bright colourful characters to attract young customers. This line will be strictly for a adult market online. Sadly not like the good old days when kids bought toys too.

    • TimelordTim

      April 22nd, 2026 - 3:10pm

Toptimelord, I see you’ve said nearly £300 and £300 in this message thread. But, there are 5 sets at £45 each which comes to £225.

Not to take away from your point, £225 is still a lot of money and it’s absolutely fair enough to debate getting at that price.

But, £225 is also significantly less than the £300 you mention a couple times.

    • Jamie

      April 22nd, 2026 - 5:13pm

If the Wrarth set being reduced is an argument against modern Who then the Warriors of the Deep set hanging around for 2 years is an even bigger argument against classic Who.

    • Fh

      April 22nd, 2026 - 7:14pm

Not really @Jamie. The Wrarth Warriors seemingly sold SO poorly that Character felt the need to half them after just 4 months. They at least waited two years before deciding the Silurian set was a failure. You’re not making the argument you think you are lol.

      April 23rd, 2026 - 3:30am

TimelordTim, My bad, I thought it was six sets, not five. Still way out of my price range. Perhaps I’m still hung up on the good old days of paying a £10 a figure at Woolworths, Toys R Us and Argos. Good times but long gone now.

A smiling 2nd Doctor vortex figure is definitely needed and is very likely to come at some point.

Bringing things back to the Vortex figures.

Al Dewar has said the cybermen are not from. Nightmare in silver. In Timeless Child, Ashad used the Nightmare body , its something specic she’s in nit NIS Cybs.

So a spare head of Ashad, or…….Maybe even a new companion figure. Danny Pink in cyb form from Dark Waters.

    3. Draconian
    4. Emperor Dalek from Evil Of The Daleks

    • Danny

      April 21st, 2026 - 4:58pm

I think, in terms of the seventies aliens we have yet to receive, the following are absolute must-haves:

      01. Silurian “Doctor Who and the Silurians”
      02. Ogron “Day of the Daleks”
      03. Draconian “Frontier in Space”
      04. Kraal “The Android Invasion”
      05. Hieronymous “The Masque of Mandragora”
      06. Eldrad “The Hand of Fear”

Although, I think the Mutt “The Mutants” would also be a welcome addition and, due to their size, might make a decent build-a-figure. Also, we still have not received a Chief Sea Devil “The Sea Devils” which is surprising considering that it would it only involve a minor repaint and retool to the original Sea Devil released way back in the first wave of Classic Series figures in 2008.

Also, whilst the Anti Man “Planet of Evil” might not be the most popular choice for some fans, I think if Character Options were to repaint and retool the Sharaz Jek figure, which is what they did to produce the Voord and Sensorites, I think they could do the same for the Anti Man.
      However, whilst there are a handful of must-haves from the seventies, there are several from the sixties;

      01. Koquillion “The Rescue”
      02. Menoptra “The Web Planet”
      03. Venom Grub “The Web Planet”
      04. Zarbi “The Web Planet”
      05. Monoid “The Ark”
      06. The Toymaker “The Celestial Toymaker”
      07. Emperor Dalek “The Evil of the Daleks”
      08. Yeti “The Web of Fear”
      09. Cyberman “The Wheel in Space”
      10. Clockwork Soldier “The Mind Robber”
      11. White Robot “The Mind Robber”
      12. Ice Lord “The Seeds of Death”

Although, not the most desired out of the sixties aliens which are yet to blessed with an action figure, I think the War Machines “The War Machines,” Quarks “The Dominators,” and the Krotons “The Krotons” would not be too hard to do; I would welcome their release even if they had limited articulation and had a rotocast sculpt.

Of course, the issue with most of these must-haves is that would require brand-new sculpts if Character Options were to do decent justice to them, and brand-new sculpts as we all know cost much more than repaints and the odd retool.

I’m just watching my Web Planet video….
My favourite Dr Who era though is the 1970s….I could mention dozens of monsters and villains from Peter Davison and Colin Baker eras that have annoyingly never been released….
Valeyard, Cyber Controller, Tractators, Vervoids, Terileptals, 80s Omega….you know all the ones…
The problem with the Sharaz Jek figure, and the Voord and the Axons and others, is their very skinny legs….like matchsticks….
They look like they could topple over at any time….

Blast….1980s that should read….(though the 70s also had some very good monsters….!)

      April 21st, 2026 - 5:53pm

Honestly, War Chief, there is an abundance of eighties aliens which we have not received which would look amazing on the shelf; some of them are from episodes that are average and, in some cases, even poor, but that does not diminish how interesting the aliens were or how striking their designs were:

      01. Marshman “Full Circle”
      02. Tharil “Warrior’s Gate”
      03. Terileptil “The Visitation”
      04. Android “The Visitation”
      05. Ergon “Ark of Infinity”
      06. Omega “Ark of Infinity”
      07. Cyber Controller “Attack of the Cybermen”
      08. The Rani “Mark of the Rani”
      09. The Valeyard “The Mysterious Planet”
      10. Vervoid “Terror of the Vervoids”
      11. Tetrap “Time and the Rani”
      12. Bus Conductor “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy”
      13. Chief Clown “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy”
      14. Clown “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy”
      15. The Destroyer “Battlefield”
      16. The Ancient One “The Curse of Fenric”
      17. Haemovore “The Curse of Fenric”
      18. Cheetah Person “Survival”

There’s probably some that I missed, but I consider those to be the must-haves, especially the Rani; she’s such an important character to that era of the show. Although, like I said in my previous post, most of these figures would require brand-new sculpts so, it’s unfortunate, but it’s unlikely that they will ever see the light of day.

On the point you made about the Sharaz Jek sculpt and it being difficult to stand up, I agree that is the case for the Axon Man and Sharaz Jek, but for the Voord and Sensorite, it is not too bad because of the how the feet have been sculpted.

Danny, are you aware that (other than the Web Planet ones, which would be difficult and expensive to make), pretty much all of the figures you suggested have been done as figurines by Eaglemoss. Yes, they’re a bit smaller, and not poseable. But they look great. And it least we have these more obscure characters that can be sold in a line like theirs. Unfortunately, the company went out of business (though others have picked up some of their unmade ones), but you can still find most of them from a few companies or on ebay.

Personally, I’d rather character focus on characters and creatures that haven’t been made in any other form, like Liz, Mr Ring-a-Ding and Dugadoo!

    1. Cybermen
    2. 15th Doctor and Mr Ring A Ding
    3. Yeti
    4. Season 7 set
    5. Wirrn
    6. 4th Doctor

They all look amazing and I’m excited for them all but the 4th Dr is the least exciting simply because I already have so many of him, but I am looking forward to the new articulation and all those accessories!

Strange…..I would put the Wirrin bang at the top of my list, alongside the Yeti of course….
I haven’t been this excited by a Character Options Dr Who release for….Well, for over a decade….
I think the 2012 Fendaleen was the last time…

    • Danny

      April 20th, 2026 - 11:24am

The Wirrn is most certainly at the top of my list because I love the Ark in Space; I love Season 12 in general. And it will be amazing to put it alongside all of the other figures from that season; it really will be the last peace in the Season 12 puzzle on the shelf.

I like the fact that we are getting Liz Shaw, I have always thought that she was an underrated companion, but I can understand why she is not the most popular, given that she only appears in one season of the show. I also like that the costume, from what I can see so far, appears to be accurate to what she wears onscreen in Doctor Who and the Silurians, which is great! And that cannot be understated because of how horribly inaccurate the Harry Sullivan, Sarah-Jane Smith, Romana I, and Romana II figures were in the B&M exclusive sets.

However, I just do not like the fact that the Primord is being released without the conventional white uniform that they wear in Inferno. To be honest, if Character Options did not want to sculpt a brand-new figure, then why not release Liz with a figure which fans have been wanting ever since the first wave of Classic Series figures were released? Why not release her with a Silurian? It would make more sense too, considering the costume she is wearing. And all Character Options would have to do is retool the figures used in the Warriors of the Deep set; so, that would involve a new head sculpt, and torso sculpt, a new sculpt for the lower arms, new sculpts for the hands and feet, and then they would just have to repaint it accordingly.

Of course, I am very happy we are getting the Yeti, but it is just so frustrating that it is a build-a-figure in a wave which does not feature that many Classic Series army builders, because it would have been nice to have a couple of Yetis on the shelf.

The Fourth Doctor, like I said in a previous post, there just is not enough there for me to want it; if he was packaged with a proper Classic Series K9, then maybe that might have convinced me, but alas, no.

And of course, the less said about the New Series figures, the better.

Personally, I have not liked what Character Options have released since 2012. Whilst the B&M sets, on the very odd occasion, did release remarkable figures like the Voord and the Sensorites, the inaccuracies to the companions that were released were, in my opinion, unacceptable.

However, the Vortex Edition sets appear to have a much higher standard in terms of quality and have superior focus on achieving onscreen accuracy, which I really appreciate. I have the Master and TARDIS, as well as the Tegan Jovanka and Destroyed Dalek sets, and whilst they are expensive for sets which use a fair few reused assets, Character Options did use those assets appropriately and cleverly, unlike most of the B&M sets. These Vortex Edition sets, or at least the two that I mentioned, I cannot speak for the others, have been solid so far.

So, lets hope that this wave might be a return to Character Options’ old form and if they sell well, then fingers crossed, they might be prepared to release another wave later down the line with more brand-new sculpts.

    April 19th, 2026 - 8:50pm

I’m seeing quite a few complaints as usual (mostly classic era fans who don’t want to have to buy new era figures) but personally I thought this was a pretty decent spread of figures.

Yeah, the build-a-figure aspect is kind of annoying cause it means you have to buy figures you don’t want (they could’ve done something more interesting with 15 here and I don’t particularly like the look of that 4th Doctor figure at all), but we’re getting a decent mix of classic and new figures, including a couple Doctors, a companion (not sure if we’ve had a Liz figure previously or not?) and a whole bunch of monsters we’ve not had yet! I’ve been dying to get the Nightmare in Silver Cybermen in 5 inch for AGES so I’m pretty pumped for that, personally!

Seems like they’ve covered all the bases pretty well here; should be something for everyone, which should be the point, right? Like I said, I know it’s a pain, but worst case scenario any figures you don’t want, you can just sell on later.

And the Daleks. He didn’t know what to do with them and made them a joke too. The DOctor treated them so lightly in the Moffat era (except in Victory) and it utterly eliminated the threat of them that was ingrained in the audience through Eccleston’s terror.

    • Danny

      April 20th, 2026 - 10:43am

War Chief, I 100% agree with you. I will be quite honest, whilst Stephan Moffat can be a decent writer for Doctor Who under certain conditions, I think was an awful showrunner; the characters, plots and settings he introduced were, in my opinion, some of the worst in the show’s history.

Fans, quite rightfully, dislike or hate Chris Chibnall for his incompetent characters, preaching plots, and outright disrespectful narratives (towards the show and its fans who have been there long before the show came back in 2005), but Moffat paved the path of destruction so that Chibnall could run on it. Many or the reasons why Doctor Who is currently in the creative gutter is because of Moffat’s stewardship of the show.

And, as you rightly said, his stewardship oversaw Daleks with horrible and uncharacteristic dialogue, as well as rubbish designs. Cybermen which were neither horrifying nor intimidating; the way in which the Cybermen could detach pieces of themselves in The Pandorica Opens, Closing Time, and Nightmare in Silver, to me, just implied that they were nothing more than robots; it really reduced the horror and morbid mystery of what lies beneath a Cyberman’s armour. And then there was the fact they could run in Nightmare in Silver, and that they could fly in Death in Heaven… Visually, it looked ridiculous and it if you know anything about the Cybermen, then you’ll know that both abilities are completely unnecessary to them.

Silurians which, again, had rubbish designs. An almost-all-female tribe of Silurians could have worked had they have been written competently; they could have written as thought they were the Amazons of the Silurian race, but that was never going to happen when you have Chibnall and Moffat writing for them. And then there’s the Sontarans who are reduced to nothing more than a joke in the form of Strax.

And let’s not even get started on how Moffat chose to portray and write the Master. I know I am not the only one who feels this way about the Moffat era, and remarkably since then the show has become even worse, so that is why I am not particularly pleased to see the Cybermen from Nightmare in Silver as part of this wave. Honestly, if that was a set of two Cybermen from the Wheel in Space, I would be all over it.

And, look, I know I am quite cynical towards the New Series because I think the Classic Series is vastly superior in terms of its characters, plots, settings, and world building, but there is an era of the New Series which I think almost all Doctor Who fans enjoy, myself included, and it is the original Russel T Davies era. It is not without its flaws, of course, but it is easily one of the most action-packed, entertaining and emotional eras of the show. So, if Character Options want to still produce New Series figures, why not produce figures from that era?

You know, to this day, Character Options have only ever released five figures from the Series 4 Specials. The Cyber Leader from the Next Doctor, which came out as part of the Age of Steel wave back in 2008. And then there was the End of Time wave which had the Tenth Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor, the Master, and the Narrator, and I think that came out in early 2010. We still have not had a figure of Jackson Lake and a Cybershade from the Next Doctor, the Tritovores from Planet of the Dead, a Flood Host from the Waters of Mars, and… I know I am living in dreamland with this one, but we also still do not have a Tenth Doctor in either his blue or brown suit with renewed articulation.

Personally, I would rather see a complete wave of Classic Series figures if there is a build-a-figure involved, especially one as iconic as the Yeti. I do not have a problem with Character Options producing figures from the New Series; I just which they would not release them in the same sets of waves as Classic Series figures. And if Character Options wants to release New Series figures then why not take us back to when the New Series actually felt like a worthy continuation of the original show?

    • davidhhh

      April 28th, 2026 - 3:40am

Danny, as with my other comment to you, did you know that Eaglemoss also made figurines of most of what you were suggesting here, too (other than Jackson Lake)?

  • Danny

    April 19th, 2026 - 3:53pm

I appreciate that Character Options have a budget, and therefore, corners must be cut here and there but it’s just so unfortunate that they are releasing a Primord using the Dr. Constantine figure as a base. I really hoped we would get a new sculpt, so we could have the Primord in the uniform they wear in Inferno.

Liz looks okay, I suppose, but again, they’re just reusing the Jo Grant legs; so that Season 7 set is just a set of reused assets with a £44.99 price tag. The Fourth Doctor looks okay, but there’s just not enough there for me to buy it; had he have come with a Sontaran Trooper from the Invasion of Time, or perhaps a proper Classic Series K9, when I would definitely go for it.

The Wirrn looks amazing; I’ve always loved the Ark in Space, so it’ll be great to get that on the shelf; no complaints with that one at all. The Yeti looks fantastic, it’s wonderful that we’re finally getting it, and that they went with the version from the Abominable Snowmen too. My only gripe, is that it’s a build-a-figure; it would’ve been nice to get a couple of Yetis on the shelf for army building purposes.

And that leads to my last and biggest complaint… New Series figures… Why? Why are New Series figures part of this wave? I hate the New Series! Especially the tripe we’ve had served up to us over the past nine years, and now we have to go and buy figures from that era to build a figure we’ve wanted ever since the first wave of Classic Series figures were released back in 2008… Just, so, so annoying, and the sets won’t be cheap too.

I don’t want to come across as ungrateful because I’m so pleased we’re finally getting a Wirrn and a Yeti (albeit, only if we buy the whole wave), but most of the figures in the wave demonstrate how tight Character Options are these days; granted that’s because the interest in Doctor Who just isn’t there compared to what it was back from 2007 to 2013, so they have to be careful with what they spend.

But it’s just such a shame that they can’t put more money into giving us a proper third wave of Classic Series figures with brand-new sculpts making up most of the wave, and reusable assets in the minority.

I think Danny and I wanted a whole Yeti figure (so we could buy a small army of them) and not bother about the New Series stuff…

Not everyone’s happy if they did that War Chief. Character wouldn’t be happy when they have to sell the New Series stuff at half price haha. And then we’re not happy either when they cancel the line because they failed to make a profit. There’s a reason they’ve done it the way they have, it wasn’t an error, they WANT people to have to buy all the sets, it’s just good business ultimately.

      April 25th, 2026 - 4:38pm

Complaining about eras of figures that have little to no representation on the shelf, why?? Just don’t buy them. It’s a good mix of classic and new, and there’s plenty of us who would’ve liked a bit more New in there and not endless 70s sets

    • FH

      April 25th, 2026 - 6:34pm

That’s a really good point DoctorPond393. The 70’s is massively over-represented compared to other eras. Even in this wave alone, three out five sets are 70’s era. We now have literally every single 70’s companion, making it arguably the most comprehensive main cast represented era. That’s all eight (including K-9) companions of 70’s Doctor Who now having a figure. Which is great, of course! But that’s CRAZILY over-represented considering we have literally ONLY ONE companion for the 60’s and three for the 80’s. It does somewhat feel like Al Dewar focuses heavily on his particular favourite era, which is understandable I guess. Just interesting to note how vastly disproportionate it is.

    April 19th, 2026 - 10:47am

The 4th Doctor figure does look good but it’s odd that other than the Yeti segment it comes by itself bar a few minor accessories. If it’s cheaper than the others then fair enough but otherwise it doesn’t seem like a great deal.

I understand the new tooling may be what is driving the price up but the previous head sculpts were already very good and Tom Baker’s face and hair didn’t really change much across his run compared to other Doctors.

It’s also a bit disappointing that despite the many outfits 15 wore across his run, for the more premium Vortex range, they’ve opted for a repaint rather than one his more unique costumes.

      April 19th, 2026 - 12:16pm

i’m assuming the 4th and 15th sets being cheaper repacks have allowed them to spend more money on the others! It’s a common cost saving method with toy companies releasing repaints so they can spend more on unique tooling for new figures! And the BAF basically spreads the cost evenly if you’re buying all of them.

It’s annoying, but I guarantee we wouldn’t get an all new Wiirn if they’d needed to pack 4th with a unique figure. But i do agree, he’s definitely one of the weakest of the wave!

Regarding the Tom Baker figure, I’m not sure if I like the scarf. I don’t know if it’s plastic or if it’s going to be a material scarf. Yes, it would look more realistic and allow for better posing if it were a material scarf. I just think the plastic one would be better because all the figures have that scarf . Can anyone confirm if the scarf is a material or plastic?

I 100 percent agree with you, Dr….because I want the Yeti, I’m going to have to buy figures I wouldn’t otherwise have bothered with…
Even if the 4th Doctor scarf is no good, in some Dr Who stories (like Planet of Evil) he actually looks good without it….!

Yes the Scarf is softGoods. A loose term for Figures with Cloth pieces.

Al said he has been attempting to get this into the range fro a while as it lends itself to better illustrate the item. Scarves especially and this Doctor has the wider scarf with the longest length.
