The Doctor Who Site Interactive “Classic” DVD / Blu-ray List

If you have not seen this before its been updated with the latest Blu-ray release.

This list features every UK DVD / Bluray and box set release form the “Classic” series

To go to the list click Here

Please read instructions carefully

The interactive DVD list allows you to see at a glance which Dvd’s you own and how many you still have to collect.

The main list includes all Classic stories, whether they have been released or not, we have done this in case any are recovered (and some were!) or reconstructed or animated. You can choose to see only those that have been released by clicking “Released DVD’s” on the tag line.

For the completest we have added all releases including special editions and re-visitations. Also included are all the box sets (including exclusives) although the individual DVD’s themselves are in the main list.

You can click each DVD you own which will then give you a running total at the top. Filters allow you to see which titles you still have to get.

We will be updating all lists and adding new ones as time allows.

For any questions, omissions, errors or suggestions please use the comments box. (please bear in mind some comments are months/years old here.

Heya ! I was wondering if there was an update planned to add the cover of The Celestial Toymaker and also Season 25 blu-ray 🙂

Is this feature still being updated. I find it very useful but it doesn’t seem to have been updated in a while. It’s missing The Collection Season 15 and Celestial Toymaker which are currently pr-orders but it’s also missing the new version of the underwater menace.

It’d be great to see these added.

    Thanks

not quite true, but you do need to be familiar with how your browser stores items in local storage and using the “web developer” mode to access and manipulate these. If you’re keen, look for the site among the list of those with local storage elements and find the key “DvdStorage” which should have a value akin to “<li class=”dvd1-29″>…” … this key/value pair can be copied and pasted to the same location on your new computer … ymmv, sorry

This is a lovely site, Thank you for painstakingly putting all of the DVDs into this list. I do have a few questions as I am just starting my own collection, are all of these available to be played with Region 1 DVD players? Also I have heard that Region 2 DVD’s are much clearer than the ones for the US. I was also wondering if anyone has seen any of these “Full Collection” DVD’s that have just hit the market. I also wanted to know what I need to do to collect the Bonus Material that is available out there. Is all of this on the DVD’s listed above. I love Classic Doctor Who.

When I tick off all the ones I own plus the missing episodes so I get a clear idea of how many I still need. It says I need 29. Yet when I count the ones I don’t have. It says I need 45?
Then when I unselect the missing ones. It says I need 48 which is still wrong? Why is this?

Also if I tick all of them including the missing episodes it says I have minus 14 to collect. So I untick the missing ones thinking it doesn’t count for them. But then it says I have 4 to collect? Even though there is much more than four missing stories

Doctor who site should reorganize this checklist again in the form of a one time purchase Phone app for doctor who collectors. Just a close up front cover tap and see back cover. List the Main actors, guest cast, and monster with short synopsis for each episode. A disc count, listing of special features and sub headings for each Doctor. Like you would open the app and see 12 Doctor who images, one for each Doctor then you would click and see each of those doctors dvd/blurays within a collection. I would pay up to seven dollars for that.

Oooh, I’ve got a LOT of DVDs left to get! That said, I have almost every classic era story…just that a lot of them were bought on VHS, and some (in particular McCoy’s era, plus a few others) were recorded by me straight off the telly. Still, I’d love to replace them all with official DVDs eventually. 🙂

One thing I would say though, is that this list could be a little misleading…by putting in, say, Spearhead from Space and then the Special Edition and Bluray releases of it as well. Most people are going to buy one or another to be part of their collection, NOT ALL THREE. So even though they have the story in their collection, the list would still show they’re missing 2 DVDs which are the other editions of it.

Just a thought if you’re working on any further updates to the list. 🙂

      April 3rd, 2015 - 1:11pm

you just tick the other 2 that your may not be buying

the lists are aimed at completest to be honest and was started to before the special editions and bluray were even out and were added as new additions to the range

    • G Cooper

      April 3rd, 2015 - 2:21pm

Fair enough, I’ll just do that then. 🙂

But yeah, there’s being a completist (having every story) and then there’s being a *Completist* (having every story in every possible edition and format). Out of the two, I’m the first type, and tend to view the second as being a bit over-the-top/redundant. 😉

    • booboo

      April 3rd, 2015 - 2:28pm

the problem is it depends on when you started collecting, many people would have bought the 1st issue, then the special edition, then the bluray but kept all as part of their collection

Others would have come straight in with the special edition or bluray so would have no need to buy the others

we just have to cater fall all eventualities

    • G Cooper

      April 3rd, 2015 - 3:18pm

That’s true. And others (like myself) would buy the first vanilla issue DVD, then not bother getting the special edition at all when it came out. Everyone can have different ways of collecting the same thing. 🙂

So currently, 43 DVDs down and 120 to go. But factoring in my VHS purchases and home recordings, that’s actually 159 down and 4 to go. xD

He’s up there at the top of my preference list… if McCoy is number one, Colin would have to be at number six? Eccleston, Hurt, Smith and Troughton are all in front of him.In that order. So, Eccleston would be number five, Hurt would be number four etc. etc.

Soon, fans won’t be able to talk about their favourite doctors on a first name basis, because of Peter Capaldi and Peter Davison. Last names won’t work either cos of Tom and Colin Baker. So looks like its full names from now on! P.S. my favourite is Troughton.

    • G Cooper

      April 3rd, 2015 - 2:17pm

That doesn’t quite preclude the usage of names. For instance, I could just say that my favourite Doctor is Davison, and my next favourite is Colin. ;P

Although to be honest, I prefer to stick to numbers, they’re less ambiguous. So I just say that my fave Doctors are Five and Six.

While I think it is a great list, I’m concerned about the inclusion of the Regeneration box set because it doesn’t count as a “Classic” DVD and is intended to be not in the same style. If the list is including that, then shouldn’t also include “The Monster Collection”, “The Doctors Revisited”, and the Blu-Ray “Series 1-4” (since I’m sure the new covers are intended to match with the logos) as well. I’m not a collector and Regeneration are my only DVDs, but I don’t want to say that I have some “Classic” DVDs.

    • booboo

      January 10th, 2014 - 12:28pm

Regenerations was included because it contained the the 10th planet which had not been release on DVD at the time, people may therefore use this release to complete their classic collection and not buy the 10th planet on its own separately , same goes for the time capsule which contained terror of the zygons before the main release.

The Monster collection are straight vanilla re-releases, not new and will be covered in a future 2005 onwards list.

The Doctors Revisited are USA releases which are not covered here neither are 2005+ episodes.

    • Jdogman

      January 11th, 2014 - 11:16am

Thanks for the explanation. I’m surprised people bought this cause they were desperate to own 10th Planet. I thought though that if people did buy this to have alongside other DVDs then there would be problems filling in the gaps with the nearest 4, 9, and 10th Dr episodes, unless they had an iTunes download collection instead. I understand the Time Capsule as an exception since I consider that a substitute for Zygons and it acts more as a reward for long time collectors who can’t wait to have it. The Doctors Revisited is also an AUS release.
