This zoom situation and lack of release date is a pain. Having to order off hmv, but my card runs out in August. Whereas zoom let you update your card hmv don’t. They just cancel the order if the card is out of date at time of release. There is, always a nightmare attatched to these releases. Zoom say they could sell ten times the amount. So why don’t the BBC produce more and stop this headache

Zavvi let you change your card details rather than cancelling. I know they’re delivery is sometimes questionable but if you wanted to secure a copy they would at least let you change your card

Zavvi or Zoom: if there is an issue with your credit card when they try to charge your item before dispatch, does anyone if they send you a message to solve the problem or they directly cancel the order? Thanks in advance!

I was also hoping to buy this set from Zoom as I’ve used them for all the other Doctor Who Collection season sets. I’ve pre-ordered Season 24 from Amazon at the moment but will cancel it if becomes available from Zoom.

Just spoke to zoom. A manager said they should be getting it in as they got all the others but there is no firm news on it yet. I am doubtful however as Warner is taking over Zoom in April. This maybe effecting their future and current catalogue.

I seriously hope Zoom is going to continue with pre-orders for these! I don’t want to have to rely on Amazon.co.uk, as they’ve let me down with pre-orders in the past. Zoom has always been great with all my pre-orders.

I would love for them to do a Wilderness Years collection and eventually New Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Class. It would act as the definitive Whoniverse collection.

Let’s hope so. We just have to be patient though, it’s likely if they do them it won’t be till most of the classics are done, if not all.

The new series would definitely benefit from having expanded releases, with new docos and other features. They could do behind the sofa, new interviews with various cast and crew and include more BTS footage/ promo material and trailers. Commentaries for every episode would also be brillian. Plus, missing stuff could be added, like PS on S7. TUAT and Resolution could be in their correct places as well.

It would also be a good opportunity to include the full length versions of DW confidential if possible, and correct the slightly sped up episode speeds that are present on the current blu-rays. I’d also love the spin-offs to get these releases, but I feel only Torchwood and SJA would get enough demand. I would like Class to get the same treatment, even though it wasn’t that great, but I don’t think it will be re-released again.

Yes having the Cutdown versions was annoying. 30/45 mins on tv and crammed into 15 mins for dvd. Actually have the first 3 in full version as recorded to vhs before having dvds.

    • SilentNinjaZero

      January 23rd, 2021 - 9:32am

      James

That’s cool that you have the first 3 series. I’m not sure if they should make new episode specific docos for S1-6, but they might. From S7 onwards there were short BTS clips including DW extra, but they should do proper making ofs for S7-12 + future seasons.

I was thinking about possible in conversation guests. I know atm they only do one per season, but with future classic and new who boxsets they could do a couple more. Some suggestions:

S1 – Christopher Eccleston if possible, if not Billie Piper or John Barrowman
S2 – David Tennant (even though he recently did one for 10th era blu ray)
      S3 – Freema Agyeman
S4 – Catherine Tate, maybe Alex Kingston?
2009 Specials (if separate) – RTD
      S5 – Matt Smith
      S6 – Karen Gillan + Arthur Darvill
      S7 – Jenna Coleman
      S8 – Peter Capaldi
      S9 – Steven Moffat
      S10 – Pearl Mackie + Matt Lucas
      S11 – Jodie Whittaker + Chris Chibnall
      S12 – Bradley Walsh + Tosin Cole
S13 maybe? – Mandip Gill + John Bishop

Plus ofc they can still do new interviews with other cast and crew.

OK…so Season 24 might not be the best of the Classic series…but for me it’s still head and shoulders above what we’re getting from the current series.

On a positive note, the trailer is so heartwarming! I watched it yesterday, and got a lovely warm feeling, especially seeing Sylv as Seven again! Great to see Edward Peel in it too! Really looking forward to this one. I guess it’s been stretched to 8 discs with the standard and extended versions? And as for 25 hours of archive material…huge!

It’s worth noting that on the official press release from doctorwho.tv they list every retailer for pre-orders but this time, Zoom is entirely missing. Could just be an error but after what happened last time with Zoom cancelling a lot of people’s orders because of stock issues that they’ve decided not to sell any more. Just a thought.

I was told recently that big changes are coming to zoom as Warner is taking over Universal’s dvd and bluray distribution in the UK this year. This may effect items they can stock. As there is no released date other than 2022 maybe they can’t commit.

I live in Poland and I usually took it from Amazon and the delivery was quick and solidly packed. Personally I’m happy with this! Sylvester McCoy is my Favourite Doctor and This Season is My guilty Pleasure. I understand why most Fan don’t like this one, to me it’s just a fun season and really shows why The 7th Doctor decides to become more darker and take the title “Time’s Champion”. Almost like the seasons show his character grown more and mature. Much like how we cringe at our personal past/childhood, we make ourselves wiser and mature.

These Blu-Ray sets are far to hard to collect they are pricey on realise so if you don’t buy straight away they vanish from shops/online only to turn up on eBay for twice the original price.

Knowing there are 26 seasons to find puts me off as I have all the DVD’s.

What i tend to do is watch them all way through. Keep the discs with the new improved cg effects and extended scenes and then i put those into those original DVD plastic cases and swap around, depending how many discs more are needed, usually 2-3). The rest of the discs and box i give to the nearest charity shop. I just keep what i want and i kind of have the best of both. With season 24 i will only need to keep the discs with the extended content with there being no CG this time around. Plus i prefer the stronger plastic cases.

      Hi DalekZ

They are only hard to find, if one doestn order straight away(or within a few weeks, depending where you order) But these are stunning value. In and of themselves. The merits of how much you or I value the content is personal. But from an economic point of view.

      Call it £45.

4 stories at +£11.25 each (cheaper than the new retail price of the DVD
Each story gets two discs say + £5.62 a disc

I dont know how long all the new extras are. but 25 hours of Behind the scenes

makes this one cheaper than any of the others(i have not counted extended episodes) so even more value

Go on get in with an order, wont be out untill june I wouldnt think. Season 8 is only March

I’m not that fussed about getting this boxset, as Season 24 is my least-liked season of the Classic Series and I doubt the extended edits will improve the stories much. If I do decide to get it, it’ll purely be if I decide to get the whole classic series on blu-ray and want to avoid any gaps on the shelf.

I wonder why they chose this season?

    • Gordon

      January 21st, 2021 - 11:41pm

There can be numerous different reasons why they pick the seasons they do. Sometimes it’s down to availability of participants or who is still with us. For example they may have decided to do season 8 before 7 as there isn’t many regulars living. Another example Season 20 might have been put on hold as Mark Strickson can’t currently fly to the U.K. Sylvester and Sophie are normally quite busy from doing a lot of conventions round the world and Bonnie is normally very busy doing a lot of theatre and other acting gigs. With Covid they aren’t busy right now so it probably made a lot of sense to get them together while they were all free. It could also depend on what the previous season was. Season 8 was a pretty popular season, season 24 is in the other end of the popularity scale. It mixes things up and doesn’t leave all the unpopular stories till the end. Also balancing the workload could also play a factor. Season 8 was by far the trickiest season to restore so far. Season 24 is relatively straight forward in comparison.

    • Day Dalek Gold

      January 22nd, 2021 - 1:07pm

Ah, that makes sense. I’ve never really thought about it that way before. Which box sets do you want to see next?

    • Gordon

      January 23rd, 2021 - 10:24am

A lot of the seasons I really want are probably a while off. I’d quite like another Peter Davison season but with Mark Strickson being stuck in New Zealand till at least the summer I can see it being a while before we get 1. It would be great if we could get season 22 next but I’d imagine they would want to keep that till nearer the end of the range. I think we are probably due a Tom season next and I’d like season 16 as the graham Williams era is sorely lacking in the collection and that’s my favourite out of 15,16 and 17. I would like some representation for hartnell and Troughton but I understand why we haven’t had anything yet

    • Day Dalek Gold

      January 23rd, 2021 - 4:25pm

Yes, I would imagine the 60s will be later as well as 22. I would like to see season 21, 13, 16, 5 and for my sad purposes only, season 9. I think the gold day dalek would look great on the box. For the 60s do you think has an extra they will have an option to watch them in colour? Probably not because of cost and such things.

A nice unexpected surprise, although I hope that before a release date is announced whoever needs to do so takes a deep breath and simply adds 3 weeks to whatever date would have been announced. In which case there would be a fighting chance of it being released ‘on time’.

I appreciate the world we live in at the moment, but for any number of reasons (pre Pandemic) these have tended to be released late. This has always slightly tempered the excitement of them coming out to my mind, seeing the previews in the press, then the reviews in the press, the fact that you can’t rely on the timing of release for gift purchases and for those with tight budgets to avoid hard pressed cash being unnecessarily tied up etc.

In my opinion these releases are brilliant and examples of some of the finest new Who merchandise – if only they could be released when they say they are going to be released!

Escape, capture escape capture. Silurians is ok, But again too long , Inferno, is very dull, I will buy the Box set, for the extras and to see if they can do anything with the PQ and sound.

Id rather go to wales and watch the amazingly fabulous Kate O Mara talk to a man who`s face is melting. 🙂 Than wander about on the moors, with dodgy green dogs and lots of Wobbly voiced Aliens from the 70s. I love some of the 6 parters from pertwee, but not any of these bloated 7 parters

So McCoy gets two of his three seasons, two years running, while we are still waiting for the first two Doctors seasons to appear on Blu ray. So ladies and gentlemen! Enjoy the delights of the Doctor doing prat falls and coming out with classic lines like absence makes the noise grow longer and doing a lot of sneering and pulling silly faces.

Kate O’Mara prending to be Bonnie Langford. A bus dropping out of the sky on a clear day next to holiday camp and nobody seems to notice Best of all watch the Doctor for no reason climb over the railing to hang by his umbrella which he never seems to be able to hold by handle! Enjoy!

It’s only 14 episodes, so quite easy to get out of the way.

I’m just happy we are getting anything at all during this very difficult time. I am sure the first 6 seasons will come when the time is right (likely when the animations have completed a season)

Well I am sure that is one of the reasons it has been released. It is just some of us are getting a bit , I will be sixty like the series in 2023. So I hope we get a sixties series before then . Stay safe everybody and keep on enjoying the Doctor Who you like.

It’s better to wait until we have more animations before the 60s sets are released. I much prefer the 60s and 70s seasons but 80s seasons are also great

I’m sure we will get some 60’s sets at some point within the next 3-4 years. There is only 11 colour seasons left to announce plus an obvious wilderness years set. 4 sets a year and they will run out of colour stories in 3 years

I think it is fairly obvious the 80s series are logistically easier to work on particularly the later ones

I think this might come out on 24th May. It’s a Monday and it’s the 24th. They might have it for 10th May and push it back two weeks.
