Going to take a complete stab in the dark here at the schedule for the remaining releases. I’m not putting dates as I feel some years they will only manage 2 due to workload. So I’m working the schedule in batches of 3 but not giving dates

    Season 9
    Season 20
    Season 6

    Season 15
    Season 25
    Season 1

    Season 11
    Season 21
    Season 5

    Season 16
    Season 7
    Season 4

    Season 13
    Wilderness years
    Season 3

If they carry on to the 2005 revival. I’m using the end of Jodie’s time as a cut off point. Doing them in batches of 4/5 releases as it’s easier to work out. Didn’t give the 2020 specials their own set as unlike the other specials there really wasn’t enough additional things going on to make that set worth doing plus with flux only being 6 eps you could probably add it to flux to beef up that set

    Series 1
    Series 4
    Series 5
    Series 10
    Series flux/specials

    Series 3
    Series 7
    Series 9
    Series 11

    Series 2
    Series 6
    Series 8
    Series 12

    2009 Specials
    50th anniversary specials

Regarding four releases next year. I think one probably season 9 would have been released this year. So one would just be a hangover from this year.no extra work needed. Hopefully season 6 next year, with a Jon, Tom and Peter.

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:12pm

      I think/hope 13 will be a lot earlier

I can’t see anymore this year, I think 22, 2 and 9 were all planned but unforeseen delays reduced it to just 22 and 2. I agree 20 looks like it’s targeting the anniversary year and as many predict series 1 would be perfect for late 2023. Logically 9 would likely be early 2023 with 20 and hopefully 1 later but as it’s an anniversary year that might want a Tom too so could potentially delay 9 to the following year

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:32pm

I’d be a bit surprised if they intentionally ran two consecutive years without a Tom Baker season and I tend to agree with others, it’d feel a bit odd to make the 60th anniversary year a year without a release for him, given how iconic he remains to this day. Like others, my gut feel is we’ll get a Williams season next, with Season 13 maybe being the last Fourth Doctor set to see release. I personally love Season 16 however, so I’d be chuffed it that one came sooner rather than later!

Actually I’m going to go big with my chips and bet against the house on 9 Im going with 20, 13 and 1 for next year

9 being pushed back to the following year with 6 and 25

      August 20th, 2022 - 1:45pm

I think we will get a sixties season next year, hopefully season 6 along with the others mentioned. I think they will give a sixties season a miss in 2024 , giving us another Tom , more than likely season 25 and maybe season 21. Then in 25 , season 1 and possibly season 11. With season 5 in 26. Which by then hopefully Wheel in Space will have been animated. That particular story seems the most likely to be animated first if as we all hope they get a new backer for the animation with in the next couple of years.

Would love to see six come out!

Patrick Troughton is my favourite and I’m not alone on that I know

Never mind about The Space Pirates just put the surviving episode on a disk with the soundtrack with narration maybe an audio reading too, a couple of documentarys – Making of and Pirates and The Doctor a behind the behind the sofa documentary and Bob Holmes the early years – you can easily fill that one!

I hope that the sales go well for this release and will show that people will buy the b&w material. For me, I’m very much looking forward to this and don’t really have a problem with the cover. I hope that on the release of ‘The Time Meddler’ we might get ‘Resistance is Useless’, the documentary shown just before the 1992 BBC2 repeat. Also, do we know what stories are NOT getting the Behind the Sofa episodes?

Considering resistance was broadcast in 1992 and doesn’t actually contain any footage from the time meddler I feel it will be on the wilderness years.

As for which stories are missing behind the sofa I’m not sure they are any missing. Possibly taken 6 behind the sofa from the season 22 press release. I suspect we won’t find out till we see the final disc listings in doctor who magazine

      August 20th, 2022 - 7:06pm

If it’s not a mistake and we only get 6 behind the sofas then Planet of Giants, the crusades and the space museum are likely to be missing a behind the sofas, all of which are some of my favourites and will be disappointing if they are missing especially as the lesser talked about and liked stories are the most interesting on the behind the sofa features and also benefit the most as they usually lack new features so the behind the sofa feature would ensure something new on each disk

The blu ray of the TV movie was botched terribly in the wrong speed without the restoration teams involvement. It needs a proper release. The wilderness years is more than just the TV movie and scream of the shalka plus probably won’t be released till near enough the end of the range anyway. Enough there for a good 9-10 disc set

A Wilderness Years set would be equally amazing as any of the other 26 season sets. Especially as there is so much that hasn’t been released on the dvds

Regarding the wilderness Years. How about a piece on the coast to coast, greenlight company or whatever they they called them selfs trying get a movie in production. For some of us in the late eighties it kept interest in Doctor Who alive when it was suffering a long and humiliating death on screen and maybe if it had been made back in the late eighties and been successful it may have saved the series from it’s fate..then there was when certain fans tried to sue the BBC for arrogant indifferentance for not making Doctor Who around 1991. So kind of crowd funding.I kid you not! Never got anywhere.I will have to check my old DWBs when exactly that was. So many interesting stories to be told.

What is this Wilderness Years thing ? Is this a reality or a fan wish ? I’m friends with someone who works freelance on the range and he told me that the releases are planned to cover the 26 seasons and that’ll be it. This was 18 months ago he told me this so maybe there’s been a change

    • Bob

      August 20th, 2022 - 10:46am

The thing is, special features relating to the Wilderness Years on the DVDs have been absent on those DVDs’ respective Collection sets. Usually when the special features aren’t transferred over, it means they’re waiting to put them on a more appropriate boxset. By that logic alone, a Wilderness Years set seems likely.

    • Gordon

      August 20th, 2022 - 11:24am

It’s a potential box set of material covering from 1990-2005. It hasn’t been green lit yet (to be fair there are some seasons from 1-25 haven’t been greenlit yet according to Richard bignell) however there is some special features like who Peter part 2 and the doctor forever series that haven’t been included yet but have no obvious place but a wilderness years set. The booklet on season 26 even implies a there is a more to come (the seventh doctor would return briefly in a 1993 children in need charity spoof and then in a 90 minute tele movie staring Paul mcgann but that’s another story….)

      Speculation

60th anniversary year will see season 1 in November

Season 20, due to the extras filmed

And I reckon a Troughton maybe too, such as season 6

I really don’t think we will get a second 60s next year, I think 9, 20, maybe 25, and probably a Tom, if we’re lucky we may get a wilderness set instead of 25

    • TheWHOlegacy

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:56am

I think 9 will be next, the Amsterdam fans said summer next year for 20, and then I’d say season 6 as the end of the year as every doctor then has a set.

The team have already said anniversaries have no bearing on the releases. I think 2 harntells in 2 years will be a bit much. Tom can get away with it due to the fact we basically have to have near enough 1 a year because he takes up nearly 1/3 of all the seasons

4 releases a year would shock me if it happens as those on the team said the target is to do 3 a year and sometimes that will be difficult.

Wilderness years I can see being towards the end and maybe including things like any new discoveries that come about after the relevant seasons have already been released. The Keeper of Traken Studio tapes that were found on ebay have not been released yet and they were found after 18 had come out but before 17 had, So no idea what’s happening to them.

    • Gordon

      August 20th, 2022 - 1:20am

      Season 9, 20 and either 1, 13 or 6 for 2023.

Season 20 is definitely coming next year. Going by those that met up with Peter Janet Sarah and mark a few weeks back in Amsterdam it’s due mid 2023. If we get something before then I suspect it will be a 70s set. Probably season 9 as we are due a pertwee and they have already done colour recovery for time monster ep 6. As for the release to round the year off either a Troughton or a Tom. Season 1 is most fitting with the aniversary but I feel we need a Troughton first and the Troughton most ready is season 6. However you can’t have an anniversary year without a Tom release and by far his best out of the 3 remaining seasons of his. It could be 1 of these 3 seasons

    • Prowl1701

      August 20th, 2022 - 3:35am

I have a video dropping Sunday discussing the possible 4 we might get. Seasons 20, as we know that’s coming soon. Season 9 as we are due a pertwee since it will have been two years seen 8 came out, though they could throw us a curve ball and give us 11 if they are making progress on coloring episode 1 of Dinos. I also think we will get a Troughton before season 1 though I suspect it will be season 5 as it is almost complete if you count animations and it’s his most popular season. If they release it around the end of the year then That would give snowman’s dvd/Blueray time to sale first. Plus a Tom, because you have too for an anniversary. I suspect it will be another Williams season, so 15 or 16.

    • scotel

      August 20th, 2022 - 5:23am

They have said a number of times that they will not be releasing more than 3 a year. They have tried in the past and it is just far too much work, and that’s even worse now they’ve got the 60s seasons in the equation too. 60th anniversary or not, that doesn’t make the calendar any longer.

    • Anonymous

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:20pm

      DPHill

Idk, I think at this point, we’ve had almost all of Colin and Sylv’s run complete on Blu-ray and this is the first 60s set. They need to hurry with either Season 1 or 6 a bit so we get that nice sense of balance in the range and it’s not mostly 60s releases and the odd other release at the end of the range (like the DVD range has been going since 2013…)

I said much lower down on these comments that it looks like an amalgamation between William Hartnell and David Bradley. Also, with seeing Bradley in a program last night I think this now more than ever now. However I was shot down in flames by an Anonymous who seemed to know better.

Yeah. I’m still hoping he amends it. Even commented on his facebook page.

Apparently it is based on a photo from The Crusade although the Doctor isn’t looking directly at the camera so this is probably why it hasn’t worked out so well.

Hopefully he will amend it before it’s rumoured October release.

I can see where people are coming from, but I personally don’t think it looks that bad. Lee Binding works incredibly hard and does amazing work. To think that he should alter his art to fit my preferences seems a bit out of line and a bit disrespectful to him. If you look at the photo in the link below from The Crusade, it’s spot on. I think we’re used to seeing the same set of photos of Hartnell and in this one he does look different.

    • daz

      August 20th, 2022 - 10:37am

He invites comments on his facebook page though. Positive and negative as is looking for feedback.

If you remember Season 10 had Jon Pertwee’s head flipped the wrong way at one point and this was fixed when fans pointed it out to him on his facebook page in time for release.

Another example would be the Series 3 Steelbook. If fans didn’t say anything we would have got the artists (can’t remember her name) original version with incorrect Master.

I’m kind of getting used to it now. But as I said I do love his work. I’ve asked him to release a book once the collection is finished featuring all his collection work with descriptions how he got there or at least get a feature on him on one of the sets.

    • Anonymous

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:17pm

Coleman, I didn’t shoot you down in flames, respectfully, I said I didn’t see why there would be any reason to put David Bradley’s face on the cover as he isn’t in it. It would be like Clayton Hickman using a photo of Richard Hurndall on the DVD cover for The Keys of Marinus. It wouldn’t make any sense.

    • Anonymous

      August 20th, 2022 - 12:24pm

I think the only reason why he looks odd to people is because Lee’s used a photo of him where his head is at an angle and he’s looking away, and adjusted that to conform to the “front-facing, straight stature” Doctor we usually get from these covers. I also wonder if it’s because Lee Binding does digitally paint these images to bring out extra detail in them and if in this case, it’s made Hartnell’s face look a bit different for some. I remember back in 2011, when fans were used to Clayton Hickman constantly providing covers for the DVD range, and then from Meglos, Lee Binding took over as the main cover artist, he did more of a “digital painting” thing and people weren’t used to it.

  • Rex Farrel

    August 19th, 2022 - 9:45am

Has anyone who scours the depths of the Internet found out anything about the “newly remastered footage”? I saw the post here that The Time Meddler has received extra work and Vidfire (and hopefully fixed episode 4 credits…), and DIOE needs Vidfire mark II applied, but presumably the rest of the episodes are tweaks of the DVD masters? (Meaning new titles/credits, more fixed shot changes, and extra frame touch ups.) Although I suppose they could also have started The Lion from scratch, if it hasn’t been sold on since last time.

Paul vanezis has said on the time medlar: We scanned the original NZ/Nigeria prints of episodes 1, 3 & 4, the fine grain master and dupe neg in the BBC archive of episode 2 and the uncut prints of episodes 1 & 3. It’s a remarkable restoration. Scan pixel dimensions were 1920 x 1440

Peter Crocker has said on the lion: It’s the 1999 transfer. The print is
in the US and, to be honest, the
      nasty crease/scratch may well
have lost more emulsion in the
      intervening 20 years. Also, it
would always be a sow’s ear so
      limited resources directed

Speaking of opening credits remasters on the Collection range, when Season 11 is released, I hope they use the accurate to broadcast version of the title sequence. In 1973, the diamond tunnel slowly faded to black to the end after the Doctor Who logo disappeared, but for The Time Warrior release in 2007 and every subsequent Season 11 release, the diamond tunnel stays bright at the end. Not exactly a major issue but it’s a small thing I’d like to see sorted out for the box set.

Thank you Gordon for this detailed information as always

This looks incredible and the most exciting set for me. Seasons 26, 25 and 7 are the ones which have and will normally be the ones that would get me most excited but any 60s seasons come in there too. I am not as versed in these stories as is the case with most peoplei guess for many reasons so I will be devouring this and all the extras and will hopefully finally be an expert in it afterwards like I feel I am with the other seasons

      The pdf material is outstanding

I love these sets and (so far) got them all – but I wish they’d format the blu-rays so it’s quicker to get to the main menu!!

Also if anyone has a ‘spare’ slipcase for Season 12? I managed to lose mine somehow!!

Excited about this, and really loving the artwork. The Dalek rising from the Thames looks stunning. One of the highlights for me with these is the artwork that comes with the packaging. The gatefold TARDIS interiors that open out, and house the accompanying booklet, and come with “Easter eggs”, like the packaging for B&Ms “History of the Daleks” sets. The Season 22 Blu Ray had a Cyberman invading the TARDIS. This one, I’m hoping, will have a Zarbi breaking in.

Artwork is great. I almost wish I’d want to buy the blu rays but after buying the videos, then the DVDs I’m done. Might be tempted with season 7 and 13 but that’ll be it. I don’t even watch the DVDs of Web Planet, Giants, DIOE and Space Museum so this would be a no-no regardless.
If I didn’t have the DVDs I’d be all over these.

Another similar post, what do people think about possible trailer announcements? I have a feeling they’ll steer away from the couple of comical ones they did for the success of the kinda Canon returns of older companions

Season 1 – Susan and her life with david
    3 – Steven?
4 – polly and how she misses Ben
5 – Jamie for sure it’s gotta be Jamie returning really old but then the second doctor calls him from another room set in season 6b
6 – zoe reminiscing over memories that keep turning up and strange dreams of the doctor who she can’t fully remember
7 – I can either see John levene, or Katy manning, I jave a feeling she will be the de facto pertwee representative for all of them so maybe the pair of them or following up on old friend lizs life with sikurians??
9 – manning again perhaps fighting a sea devil?
11 – hopefully manning and franklin together if we are lucky, or something to do with returning spiders
13 – I’d adore sutekh being in this one, it will probably be zygons though won’t it
    15 – Leela and K9 please
16 – a lone k9 who has stumbled upon the key to time again
20 – tegan, hopefully not being killed off in the centenary, she would be an excellent representative, if not, then Nyssa
21 – love to see turlough on trion
25 – ace being back, I think they will definitely do something with her maybe about the psychic circus??
WY – who knows, we may be lucky enough to get another mcgann minisode…

    What do we think?

      Trailers speculation list

Season 1: Susan and David with a dalek and the tardis shows up at the end implying the doctor has come back

Season 3: Steven reminiscing of season 3 post savages

Season 4: polly runs into the cybermen again

      Season 5: old soldier Jamie

Season 6: Zoe on the wheel starts to remember

Season 7: silurans attack Benton at the car wash

Season 9: jo with some sea devils

      Season 11: old hippie Yates

      Season 13: zygons prequel

Season 15: leela and k9 at gallifrey

      Season 16: something k9 related

      Season 20: Something Amsterdam related

Season 21: something with doctors 5 and 6 together (only season trailer that you could do a multi doctor story)

Season 25: ace goes back to school with 7.

Wilderness years: 8th doctor runs into Chang lee and grace

Katy manning is in series 9

    • Doug Who

      August 17th, 2022 - 9:45pm

It’s fun to speculate on these!

Older Susan on Earth seems the obvious choice and would be great.

Steven, Polly, Jamie and Zoe all have potentially moving post-Doctor stories to tell too and your choices all seem spot on Gordon.

Benton for series 7 and Jo for series 9 seem clear choices. Benton at the car wash would be hilarious!

I can see possibly an older Queen Thalira and Alpha Centauri on Peladon reminiscing about Sarah and the Doctor – maybe some Ice Warrior action too for season 11. A little post-Brexit satire might work considering the politics of the originals.

Leela and K9 on Gallifrey again obvious for 15 and maybe Lalla as Queen Astra (still a segment of the Key) for 16.

As I said below maybe Tegan and Turlough back in the Death Zone for 20. A version of the cut Auton scene would be cool.

For season 25 maybe Brigadier Bambera (maybe now promoted) would be really good especially as she’s back with Big Finish.

Season 24’s trailer cannot be beaten for me because it actually brings back a Classic Doctor in the flesh. I’d like Seasons 21 and 25 to follow suit. And maybe Season 20?

I like a lot of yours Gordon, similar in some respects, but bentonite at a Car wash, yes please I’ve heard Yates isn’t too well so we may not be lucky enough to get him on it, I’d love 5 and 6 together, that would be brilliant,

And I was just thinking for Katy because she’s such a stalwart of pertwee and there’s only bentonite fit enough to do it, I do like the idea of Kate Stewart if she isn’t killed off before then also, alpha centauri would be fun!

They’re absolutely missing a trick if they do a Jamie trailer and don’t have him saying, “Doctor. Look at the size of that thing!” followed by Frazer’s Troughton impression off-camera saying, “Yes, it is rather large, isn’t it Jamie.”

Future in conversation docs, what do we think…

Season 1 – carole Ann Ford, waris hussein
S3 – Peter purves, Jean Marsh
    S4 – anneke wills
    S5 – frazer hines
    S6 – Wendy Padbury
S7 – John levene ( I know he already has living with levene) Timothy Combe
    S9 – Richard franklin
S11 – really don’t know about PERTWEES era, maybe Ysanne Churchman?
S13 – a whole lot of docs but no one other than Tom is around, unless they did another with him??
    S15 – Chris Boucher?
    S16 – John Leeson
S20 – Mark Strickson, Sarah Sutton
S21 – Janet fielding, Peter Davison
S25 – Terry Molloy, David Banks Stewart
WY – Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, Richard E Grant, Rowan Atkinson…?

What does everyone think, I do think some of the writers and directors are more tenuous but 60s and 80s have more people that are very easy to guess that they’ll be included

Jean marsh is pretty much out. She had to retire due to a stroke a heart attack and other health issues and can barely able to answer email questions from her agent these days from what I’ve read. Im not sure about Richard Franklyn’s health. I know he’s been poorly but I don’t know if his health can improve or not. There is also the possibility that they have already recorded an interview with him. William Russell had his recorded 4 years ago so it could be possible that they recorded it when he was in filming behind the sofa for season 10. I was thinking Michael e Bryant for season 9 and having Richard for season 11 if they have already filmed it. For season 13 they could always skip it. 10 and 18 didn’t have a conversation. Louise Jameson for season 15. Peter Davison already did 19 so I’d swap him out for Eric sayward. Andrew cartmall for season 25. Kind of feel like a living with Levine style doc might be more fitting for yee Jee Tso than a conversation. I suspect getting rowan Atkinson will be too expensive but I’d like to be proven wrong.

    • Pete X

      August 17th, 2022 - 5:36pm

      Other possibiities are;
Eric Saward S21 (it’s the best of his script edited seasons),
Brian Hodgson S5/6 (contributes so much to the soundscape of several stories in these seasons),
Dick Mills S1 (worked with Delia Derbyshire on the theme and sound effects across the whole classic series, one of the few people there near the beginning and throughout),
Anthony Read S15/16 (writer and script editor during these two seasons).

    • Auton

Thanks Auton, was unaware of Anthony Read’s passing.

I do think there should be more production staff interviews rather than mainly actors.

Mat Irvine or Colin Mapson interviews would be good fits for S15/16. I can’t think of anyone for S13 – maybe there won’t be a Matthew Sweet interview for that season (like S18).

Animations are on hold as bbc america decided not to carry on and fund any more animations. Could be at least 2 years before we get another animation plus due to crusade having such a large cast costumes and sets as well as being a historical will probably be one of the last stories tackled which I would suspect would be long after the collection range has finished.

I was thinking the same. Csnt really call it the collection if they are going to release with missing eos being used via tekesnsps/audio.. Especially MasterPlan. Could possibly re-release certain discs with booklets for those certain episodes maybe. If found or animated

    • Gordon

      August 17th, 2022 - 2:06pm

It’s a collection of episodes from season 2. I don’t understand how it can’t be a collection. It’s not like it’s being marketed as the complete season 2. Animation is a form of reconstruction so if telesnaps don’t count then neither should animations as they aren’t the original episodes either

    • Prof Horner

      August 17th, 2022 - 2:12pm

Well it will be interesting to see how The Space Pirates will be represented given no there are not many visual references. As I said before, season 6 is the first season I can remember. So I hope it won’t be long before it is released. As for the covers for The Troughton seasons. Season 4 wearing that wonderful hat, while holding his 500 year old diary. Season 5 playing his recorder. Season 6 holding the white cube.

I didn’t know the animations had been halted they seemed to be doing so many.
Obvously animations are better than just the audio with telesnaps but if thats all we get for some stories then they can help complete the seasons too.
I guess nothing from that era can ever be complete they might never find more episodes, or they could find more in 40 years time when we are all buying these episodes again on some new strange media we havent even thought of yet and it won’t matter just like DVD is to us now. Time will tell, it always does.

It makes sense to release season 2 first, out of all the 60s seasons, as Season 2 is the most complete with only 2 episodes missing – both from The Crusade. And, as others have mentioned, it was never likely to be animated anyway. Looking forward to its release.

I do think it would make for a marvellous standalone project for DVD/Blu-ray next year to celebrate the 60th anniversary. One story perhaps. Some people don’t like the idea of colourising the 60s episodes but I think it would refresh the viewing experience, give it a bit of life, and make that period of the show more accessible to a lot of people.

I would rather have the reconstructions rather than not releasing a 60s box set.

I am excited for a 60s era season added to finally being added the collection.

I think many don’t realise how small the budget is for these sets and been spoiled by animations. And photo reconstructions edited well can work well.

It’s season 3 that will be difficult to construct as I think the part produced by John Wiles has no telesnaps.

    • Billy Hatnell

      August 17th, 2022 - 1:11pm

I’m sorry you won’t see the Crusade animated, if there was a chance of it happening then season 2 wouldn’t be released yet. The amount of backgrounds and characters to be worked on for the crusade makes it not viable for animation.

You must remember too that historic Hartnells are some of the worst sellers on physical media.

An editor who worked on it has heavily implied that nothing was cut from the master they delivered to BBC Studios and that master goes across every region release.

That editor would be Peter Crocker who restores the episodes.

Now, I’m only going by memory, having not seen my VHS copy for almost 20 years after converting it to DVD, but I believe the Beatles clip is on the R1 VHS release of The Chase. I’ll try to see if I can remember to load my DVD conversion of the VHS release and check to see.

    • David Minter

      August 17th, 2022 - 9:08pm

Well, that was easy enough. 🙂 Found my VHS conversion second from the top of a CD holding case. The Beatles clip was on the R1 VHS release of The Chase.

      August 18th, 2022 - 3:31pm

If I might go a bit off topic, why was the Beatles clip perfectly allowable on NTSC North American VHS release but verboten on R1 DVD yet allowable on R2 DVD? Why would there be specific licensing issues for DVD that wouldn’t be the case on VHS?

      August 19th, 2022 - 9:10am

David: Times change and fees/contracts with them. In the UK the BBC had a blanket deal with most major record companies when the disc came out, but in the US they had nothing (meaning negotiations and large fees, because music on tv dvds was big business at the time). If Apple had given permission then, it would have swallowed up all the profit and more. Presumably this time the owners have been more realistic, or someone has used a gap in the paperwork (shh!).

Thought it would be either season 2 or a pertwee so I’m glad it is.

Firstly the trailer was superb. I ain’t crying honest. Secondly the footage used in the trailer looked really good for a nearly 60 year old show.

Regarding the recon for the crusade. I get that there are some are disappointed that they haven’t animated it but however they never promised animation for it and going by comments from the blu ray team the budgets of these sets aren’t anywhere near high enough to animate any episodes. crusade in terms of animation is a massive task despite only needing 2 episodes. Episode 2 alone has about 26 speaking parts and that doesn’t include extras costume and location changes. I’m not any way surprised that it wasn’t animated. I’m just happy that it’s getting it’s own disc with recon. Even if the animations had continued I suspect the crusade would have been one of the last ones tackled. With the animations on hold and it could be a couple of years before they start again and even then it could be at least a decade before it would even be animated. I don’t think it would be fair to have the people involved to wait a decade before season 2 was released. I assume Derek Handley will be involved with it considering he has been doing all the recons since macra and has done a cracking job with them in my opinion. If it’s going to be on the same level quality wise as the likes of power fury evil web recons I’ll be happy with the finished Product.

Thrilled with the looking for david documentary. Looks like another winner from chapman and hadoke. Perhaps the best of the looking for trilogy

Not sure if I’m the right audience for the collectibles considering I wasn’t around in the 1960’s but with Emily cook hosting I’m sure it will be and entertaining watch

Happy that we are getting William Russell in conversation even if it was filmed in 2018. I suppose it makes sense to have Maureen’s conversation on season 2 as most of her stories are in this season. I’m guessing they will save Carole for season 1 and Peter for season 3.

Nice variety of people for behind the sofa. I’d like to think the 6 behind the sofa’s is a mistake but we shall see.

I assume the enhanced sound on dalek invasion of earth is going to be similar to the job mark did on destiny?

No new cgi options but considering what we are getting I’m happy with it.

Well I have placed my order for this release. Hopefully we will get this before the end of the year. It seems likely this will be only other season this year. Maybe next year we will get four box sets next year. 9,20 a Tom Baker season and maybe season 1or season 6. We will see.

Season 9 next then season 20 then a Tom Baker one so maybe season 15 and then a sixties so season 1 or 6 more likely 6 as we haven’t had a Troughton set yet

    • Gordon

      August 16th, 2022 - 11:58pm

Not sure how true it is but I’ve seen season 20 mooted for mid 2023. Probably means we could get a release inbetween. Probably a pertwee or a Tom. Can’t see it being another black and white so soon and I don’t really see mcoy getting finished off just yet so more likely a pertwee as it will be 2 years since his last. To finish I would have put season 1 but considering we still don’t have a Troughton maybe season 6. If they can manage 4 I’m going for season 13. Its the 60th anniversary year and it’s by far his most iconic.

      August 17th, 2022 - 1:46am

No, no, no – I hate to think how many snafus we’d get with four releases per year. I’m curious if the mishaps on Season 22 are due to extra time spent on this one (rather than both being rushed).

    • DPHill

      August 17th, 2022 - 12:46pm

I do think we’re overdue a Davison so I think if 9 is next it will be Davison after, if Davison is not before. Binding was saying something that hinted towards him working on 4 releases at once, which 2 and 9 are probably part of, he said anniversary soon so all of them and all the 2s, I don’t know if that refers to 20, or 9 be8ng from 72, possibly 25, but that’s an anniversary seaspn so could well be as he said another doctor will be finished very soon

I hope we get Season 16 sooner rather than later, it’s definitely one of my favourite seasons of the show, and my favourite from Tom’s era. Season 9 isn’t one of my favourite seasons but the one thing I’d look forward to is hopefully seeing The Curse of Peladon get a reappraisal as that’s my favourite Doctor Who story.

Six episodes of Behind the Sofa?
Or is that a mistake? I’m leaning towards the latter, given that the official press release doesn’t mention the number of episodes.

Does seem odd, since they normally do an episode for each story in a season.

    • Gordon

      August 17th, 2022 - 12:02am

I’d like to think it’s a mistake. It would be odd if they started skipping them now. I could understand if it was completely missing stories but there is still 50 mins in the crusade available for them to watch

    • DPHill

      August 17th, 2022 - 12:48pm

I did think it’s a copy mistake, 19 and 18 had 8 in total, and if you think of 23, 24 and 26, they had 4, so maybe the contract could be six but there’s some left over from those. Pertwees first boxset originally said eight on a doctor who site, not on here though, so I’m thinking this was a copy error, don’t worry, I think even the crusade will get one

Yes it’s fantastic he has featured on one. These interviews are a real highlight of the sets. William Russell looks to be on fine form even from the short clips. I’m hoping they do one with Carole Anne Ford for the first series.

The cover is great as always and did you check out the internal illustration of the Dalek in the Thames Ergon? Amazing!!

I tend to overlook the little details until later doug. Its usually good people like yourself that tend to point them out. Im too busy charging in there with my first comment. Bull in a chinashop. The dalek illustration is a lovely touch. We come to expect these little surprises though dont we?. I like to pre guess what the next trailer might look like before they drop. I,m already envisaging some five doctors tribute trailer for season 20. Its been mentioned its a possibility of jo and sea devils for season 9.

    • Doug Who

      August 16th, 2022 - 8:38pm

Yes these trailers have turned into something really special! Sea Devils and Jo would be fantastic. Be nice if Benton could be included (although I’m not John Levene’s greatest fan). Wonder if they might have used Mark Strickson’s recent availability for the series 20 set?

I can imagine for series 15, Leela and K9 on Gallifrey, maybe Thalira reminiscing on Peladon for 11 and possibly an older Steven still on the planet ‘The Savages’ was set on!

You know, i know the eye of orion is supposed to be the most tranquil place in the universe and the perfect spot to sketch but it would look so much better than earth after a thunderstorm( Nothing wrong with north wales mind, doctor) if a touch of CG made it seem more majestic. Also an update by evaropating those dated water swirls from the 2003 edition and giving the triangle of doom a makeover..You could be right about the season 15 trailer having leela reminiscing to k-9 and dressed in designer high council gowns.

    • Doug Who

      August 16th, 2022 - 9:45pm

Oh lord those ‘Mr. Whippy’ CG ‘improvements’! The black triangle was so much more effective. A return to North Wales – sorry the Eye of Orion – would be good..or even the Death Zone…maybe they could somehow do a version of the cut Auton attack scene with Tegan and Turlough finding themselves ‘time-scooped’ if the budget was there! Can just see the TARDIS turning up in the nick of time!

Like most things i expected it being backdated, just a little surprised it was 4 years ago but putting all these things together does take time to set up and arrange. They most likely have all the oldest actors featurettes/interviews completed for these collections.

    • Anon

      August 17th, 2022 - 6:51pm

To be honest they probably wanted a William Russell interview in the can considering his age.

    • the Ergon

      August 20th, 2022 - 10:15am

I,ve conceded. i wasn,t going to wait until the latter half of next year for the two standards and its going to be February of next year for season 8. I had already owned that collection set for a while before selling on and have the DVDs to suffice and so can manage until February 2023. The B/W boxsets I can also live with on DVD until the eventual standards, unless i can pick one up for a lot less than £50 and so I bought the collections 24, 17 and 22 at a bargain price from ebay. I can always sell these onto Cex and the like when the standards come out.
