May 17th, 2018 - 5:03pmHey booboo Do you intend in adding the 40th anniversary Dalek boxset to the DVD list? I recently got it and I noticed that it wasn’t there on the list also do you plan to implement a way to check if you’ve got the slipcases or not because I have noticed that a lot of people don’t know stories is Genesis of the Daleks or the hand of fear have slipcases

BHarribo
May 17th, 2018 - 2:56amSo they’re calling it “Tom Baker season 1” now? If they name all upcoming classic blu-ray box sets in the same manner, how the hell will they handle seasons 4 and 21? Should’ve just stayed with the standard numbering system to avoid confusion.

Few interesting things here, firstly confirmation that it is 6 discs (not sure if this was known before), and it appears to be rendered as a standard case rather than a mediabook. Looks like their ditching the mediabook (at least in the US) as I don’t think they would release two different runs of a product so close together. It’s likly the finalized artwork, so the new logo is here to stay as well (but now it’s at the top and smaller, looks better in my opinion)

Gordon
April 30th, 2018 - 6:20pmIt might just be a mock up just to make it recognisable that it’s blu ray only
the_4th_doc
April 30th, 2018 - 7:57pmIt thought that as well, but they went to the trouble of mocking up a spine and everything. That, and moving the logo to the top suggests there won’t be a cardboard bit at the bottom. I think it could still go either way in the UK though.
Gordon
April 20th, 2018 - 9:05amAccording to Richard bignall the pdfs will include:
489 pages of production documentation
1331 pages of script
19 pages of BBC Enterprises sales information for Season 12
47 pages of Radio Times cuttings
45 pages of the Weetabix 1975 promotion
42 pages of the Wall’s Dalek’s Death Ray
12 pages of the Nestle 1975 promotion
59 pages of the 1976 Doctor Who Annual
so, that’s 2044 pages in total.

TigerMan1995
May 14th, 2018 - 5:45pmNOOOOO, now why would you do that?
TigerMan1995
May 14th, 2018 - 5:46pmBy adding colour and added effects I mean, that deserves it’s own release. (Doctor Who William Hartnell Season 1: Modern Edition) or (Doctor Who: The Collection: Season 1: Modern Edition)
DANIEL-M
April 14th, 2018 - 11:22pmI thought the bbc would end making box set seasons of doctor who… Hope they clear up the 60s doctor who and give it some colour and added effects!
Gordon
April 15th, 2018 - 12:35amI can see them improving colour in the Pertwee stories that was originally in colour but having Colour in originally b and w stories? Not going to happen. It isn’t the restoration team’s remit to colour originally broadcast b and w episodes. The budget would be better served in filling in the missing episode gaps. The budget on these sets won’t stretch to both
the_4th_doc
April 26th, 2018 - 10:22pmBabelcolour, who worked on the colour for Mind of Evil episode 1, said doing a full episode ’nearly killed him,’ so doing 30+ would likely be very time consuming and expensive. Untill colorization gets easier, it’s probably not going to happen.
Tim M
April 4th, 2018 - 5:35pmI wonder…If they were to release ‘Season One’ on blu-ray, they would consider naming the first three stories 100,000bc, The Mutants and Inside the Spaceship. I don’t like ‘Inside the Spaceship’ as a title, as I don’t regard the Tardis as a spaceship. The Edge of Destruction sounds better.
Type40
April 4th, 2018 - 9:35pmShould that release happen, I think they’ll stick to the names as used on the DVDs.
Anonymous
April 10th, 2018 - 9:41pmI love the mutants title more than the Daleks
but then again there is a doctor who story called the mutants
100,000 BC
April 10th, 2018 - 11:40pmThere’s already a ‘The Mutants’, with Jon Pertwee.
I think ‘The Edge Of Destruction’ possibly has a better ring to it than ‘Inside the Spaceship’.
As for the first story… there’s reasonable justification to the idea that it’s two separate stories, with episode one ‘An Unearthly Child’ having a different plot and setting to episodes 2-4, ‘100,000BC’ (despite being written by the same person and leading into each other plotwise – it’s like the way that Heaven Sent/Hell Bent are linked).
If we are to say that it is one story, I guess the unearthly child appears in all 4 parts, whereas only 3 of the episodes are set in 100,000BC so again the existing DVD’s title wins.
Tim M
April 21st, 2018 - 7:00pmMaybe ‘An Unearthly Child’ should be regarded as a one episode story like ‘Mission to the Unknown’, and the other three episodes regarded as ‘100,000BC’. A 3 parter like ‘Planet of Giants’. That would mean 30 stories and not 29 represent the Hartnell era, and more importantly, mess up the order of subsequent stories. So ‘The Pirate Planet’ would be story 100 instead of ‘The Stones of Blood’ for example. 🙂
Gordon
April 21st, 2018 - 10:08pmAn unearthly child was commissioned as a 4 part story

May 14th, 2018 - 5:49pmAnon, This is upconverted. In fact they did more video location filming than ever in this season and any film segments are long gone so…like Series 1-4 and The Next Doctor this is 1080p upconverted from the PAL videotape masters

April 3rd, 2018 - 9:59amI honestly though they would have remastered the sontaran experiment to look like film as a what if

April 10th, 2018 - 9:40pmSays upscaled and remastered

Was it upscaled then remastered
or Remasted and upscaled
Gordon
April 12th, 2018 - 11:27amwith the original version of enemy and web I believe they were scanned/upscaled to hd then the restoration work was done and then downgraded back down to sd for the dvd. Could be similar without the downgrading. Not sure as the restoration team haven’t been 100 forward on how they are restoring it. I know Peter Crocker said on Twitter that the project took over 3 months of work so it wasn’t just a quick 5 minute job
Nick C
March 23rd, 2018 - 8:51amIs there a specific place to comment on the use of the wrong logo?
It will jar with the new rebrand, why have a logo on the box that never appears on screen on the contents?
I wouldn’t say I was up in arms about it, I just don’t see the sense.
Anonymous
March 23rd, 2018 - 10:00amA logo on the box that doesn’t appear on screen? You mean like the McGann logo being put on the boxes for the past twenty years?
Anonymous
March 24th, 2018 - 12:13amI agree. Each set should use the logo that was appearing on screen at the time.
It would be great if they could continue these on for the new series seasons as well. Perhaps with decent extras this time?
Yunie
March 26th, 2018 - 10:54amI definitely agree that using the new logo doesn’t make sense.
Although for slightly different reasons. The new logo is supposed to represent the upcoming series and new doctor. Using it with the classic series seems like it takes away from the promotion and reveal that came with the logo (i.e. using it elsewhere before the new season actually airs).
Anonymous
April 4th, 2018 - 1:45amI like what they’re doing, using one logo for all eras helps the show seem like all ONE brand, not split up into all these differing logos, that can put people of due to lack of brand recognition. The entire show is unified under one brand, like a far better version of that ‘doctor who universe’ branding theyve been playing with in recent years.
Phillip

March 21st, 2018 - 11:14pmIf you already own the individual stories on dvd for this season and wish to upgrade them to blu-ray but keep them in the classic dvd cases, I wonder if there will be one blu ray disc per story including all the special features plus “The Tom Baker Years” on a separate disc as there are 6 discs in total?
TigerMan1995
May 16th, 2018 - 4:26pmI’m Sure the Discs will say:

Disc 2: The Ark In Space (includes the Special Edition features)
Disc 3: The Sontaran Experiment
Disc 4: Genesis of the Daleks
Disc 5: Revenge of the Cybermen
Disc 6: Bonus Features
Like they do on the New Series Blu-rays.

March 20th, 2018 - 8:44pmI hope this is properly packaged and not in the cheap looking cardboard style, like Capaldi’s Series 9 box set. That crease down the from doesn’t fill me with confidence… I’d be buying this as a premium upgrade of dvd’s I already own, so don’t want it looking tatty from the off.
Nicholas
March 21st, 2018 - 11:25amthe crease indicates it’s some sort of mediabook
When The Doctor Was Me

March 19th, 2018 - 8:29amJust want to know how this is going to look on Season 21 / Season 22
Since the last episode ( twin dilemma) is a Colin Baker story
Will it be included on Colin Baker: Season 1 or will they just make a complete collection
Darren
March 19th, 2018 - 12:52pmI reckon if the UK keeps the season title then for season 21 TTD will be on it with a small photo of CB on it and a line saying including the 6th doctors first story or something like that but main photo of PD of course, as for America maybe that line I was on about will be added cause if its season box sets then TTD has to go on it in my eyes
TigerMan1995
May 14th, 2018 - 5:53pmIf the Twin Dilemma broadcast as Season 21 then it goes on Season 21. Same with The Smugglers and The Tenth Planet, they broadcast as Season 4 then it goes on Season 4 (By the way hope for animation of the Smugglers)

March 19th, 2018 - 7:47amMakes perfect business to use tom’s name for the american releases seing as in America tom is by far the most popular classic doctor

March 19th, 2018 - 1:00amMost interesting to see. I’m not quite a big fan of “Tom Baker Season 1”, but I can see the reason behind it. More interestingly, it seems we’re going to get more seasons.
Astrid
March 18th, 2018 - 8:33pmIs this meant to be a steelbook? Or just a slipcase?
Gareth Pugh
March 21st, 2018 - 12:46amLooks like it’s meant to be what is sometimes referred to as a ‘Book-pack’ or ‘Mediabook’ format – a hardback book style package with ‘page’ sized cardboard pockets for the discs (and sometimes a booklet bound in, too). Like Big Finish have used for some of their limited edition sets.
TigerMan1995

John Baker
March 19th, 2018 - 8:30amExactly
DalekAgent
March 19th, 2018 - 9:54amOh yeah true but they could just name the season after The Doctor that has the most number of episodes in the season and have both Doctors on the artwork, for example “The Fifth Doctor: Season 4” (Season 21) because The Sixth Doctor only has one episode in that season and then the artwork could have a picture of The Doctor but one half will be The Fifth Doctor and the other half is The Sixth Doctor and then some sort of effect in the middle of them to seperate them so it dosent look too wierd and so it could look like hes regenerating and then all the enemies in the middle like this release. Im not complaining though its just an idea lol
funkadelicish
March 18th, 2018 - 6:48pmAlthough it should totally say Season 12, I can understand why they might choose to put Tom Baker Season 1 for the less dedicated fan – they might be put off by thinking they’ve missed a bunch of seasons before this one, as opposed to realising this is the perfect jumping on point for his Doctor/Classic Who for many. Do you think it is the US release which will only say Tom Baker Season 1, or will it be the same here in the UK, too?

March 19th, 2018 - 3:21pmbetter get used to it, any new range or line seems be carrying the new logo, even the Titan 7th Doctor Comics are
Anonymous
March 19th, 2018 - 11:15pmI think its a good idea, it helps a casual viewer buyer realise immediately that this is the same brand, whereas in recent years, I feel the brand recognition has really suffered due to so many different logos/branding styles being in circulation. I like the 3rd and 8th doctor logo, but i feel the classic figure line, for example, may have done better if it continued to stick with the recognisable (to a general audience) RTD era logo, or even updating to the matt smith one, in order to keep a sense of uniformality.
Doctor Mysterio
March 21st, 2018 - 11:49amWell the reason they have been branded differently in the past was because the later series have all launched as series 1-10 so it seems odd to try and brand them all together now.
