doctor-who-magazine-469-3About Doctor Who Magazine

Doctor Who Monthly (DWM) Magazine is associated with the BBC science fiction show based in the UK called Doctor Who. The magazine started out as a weekly in 1979 but became a monthly magazine in 1990. The ‘tie in’ magazine DWM now holds the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest running based on a TV show publication.

Doctor Who Monthly magazine which is sanctioned by the BBC, managed to survive after BBC cancelled Doctor Who in 1989 which was not revived again until 2005. In the intervening years when there was no television series the publication ran new stories as comics. The magazine was originally targeted at children but has now widened its appeal to adults. As the official magazine of the BBC show the publication grew to feature more insider information on the show including interviews the actors and production staff.

In 2006 the magazine changed again as the BBC launched their own version of Doctor Who magazine known as Doctor Who Adventures in the form of comics with the focus again on the younger set. DWM survived and published its 400th issue in September 2008 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in October 2009.

DWM continues to run the Doctor Who comic strip. Famous artists and authors have contributed to the publication over the years including John Wagner, Pat Mills, Dave Gibbons, Mike McMahon, John Ridgway and Ian Edginton. In addition to the Doctor Who comic strip there are also other humorous sidebar comics entitled ‘Doctor Who?’s’ and ‘Doctor Whoah!’ both based on the original story.

Yes, then he regrew himself from a single cell that survived, for a man with no regenerations left he certainly seems to be able to pull of a lot of tricks with it…

Love the latest ‘Doctor Whoah !’ by Baxter 😀

Clara – Doctor, what are you doing ?.

The Doctor – TAKING MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS !.

I thought to myself last year that if the Doctor wants to be Ginger, then why don’t he just get some red hair dye, and that’s exactly what his doing in the funny cartoon image on page 14 😀

Wish it was still £4.75, I know 24p isn’t much of a rise, but when you put it together that’s a big difference!

Steven Moffat: “It’s time for the show to flip around a bit” well to be honest, I’m sick of it flipping around as it is, I want some good old down to Earth Pertwee style episodes, tired of the story arcs of Matt Smith era which ruined some episodes I thought.
Anyway with that out of the way, really like this cover and really hoping the Capaldi era is a success 🙂

Hopefully this will be like the Tom Baker era and will stay mostly the same until near the end.

    • Anonymous

      January 7th, 2014 - 7:49pm

You have to be kidding the Jon Pertwee era was the most boring phase in the shows history. I didnt enjoy it at the time and find it to painful to watch again…have you ever tried watching an 3rd Doctor Episode recently and seeing how much they have dated (far more the the 1st and 2nd Doctor stories) The only thing that keeps you awake is laughing at Jon Pertwee’s old man fighting skills and trying to figure out what year they are in. More Moffat Magic if you please.

    • Thomas Jennings

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:18pm

      Don’t diss the Pertwee, Sir!

I would like it to go all pertwee with Earth set episodes…
Mind you, I’ve been loving Matt’s stories so I’m not too worried either way…
But I love a good, creepy, tale set in this present World- ideally in some small unassuming villiage! Then, suddenly, BANG!- AUTONS! AXONS! CYBERMEN! SILURIANS! SEA DEVILS!

    • the astronanut of death

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:24pm

I agree the pertwee eara did bore me a bit due to it all being set on earth and unit

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:26pm

    • booboo

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:37pm

each to their own, Pertwee was of my era and i can watch many of his stories over and over, far more so than anything 2005 onwards

    • the astronanut of death

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:44pm

yeah my fav classic bit was the baker era

hopefully capaldi series is not all about saving money and they actually take time and put 100% effort in

    • Trenzalore

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:50pm

I didn’t realise the Matt Smith era was all about saving money 😆 On the contrary I love the set’s and effects of the Smith era.

    • the astronanut of death

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:52pm

a few doctor who wrters have said in interviews there episodes have been crammed down into one episode making them not as good as they hoped

    • I Froze Gallifrey

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:52pm

Are you kidding me? How can a whole era be ‘ boring ‘ just because it was mostly set on Earth? Have you even seen Colony in Space, Curse of Peladon, The Mutants, Carnival of Monsters, Frontier in Space, Planet of the Daleks, Death to the Daleks or Monster of Peladon? So no, the astronaut of death, you’re wrong in saying it was all set on Earth. Plus some of his Earth based stories are his best eg. Spearhead from Space, The Daemons, Day of the Daleks, The Green Death. So I’m afraid I disagree entirely with Anonymous and the astronaut of death.

    • Trenzalore

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:55pm

Ah I see, I don’t think that’s about saving money though, by the looks of it I’d say it’s Moffat trying to fit all his plans in making a few episode rushed. But there isn’t any real answer and you may be right 🙂

    • the astronanut of death

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:57pm

the time of the doctor should have been a 2 parter 2 series worth of answers were said in a sentence (rushed)

    • the astronanut of death

      January 7th, 2014 - 8:59pm

I did not say the whole are was boing I said a bit of it

    • Trenzalore

      January 7th, 2014 - 9:00pm

Yeah I agree there, that’s kind of what I was getting at in my first post, just the writing I don’t really like definitely not the acting or effects.
And I also agree with you I Froze Gallifrey, the 3rd doctor era really is great, Carnival of Monsters is my second favourite episode ever. (which surprises a lot of people).

    • I Froze Gallifrey

      January 7th, 2014 - 9:02pm

You said and I quote “I agree the pertwee eara did bore me a bit due to it all being set on earth and unit”. So no, it wasn’t all set on Earth, which was what I said. 🙂

    • Anonymous

      January 7th, 2014 - 9:05pm

      most then

    • I Froze Gallifrey

      January 7th, 2014 - 9:09pm

And also, why is Earth boring? It doesn’t really make a difference to the story at all in my opinion. Plus when they do other worldly episodes, the sets look so fake anyway.

    • Anonymous

      January 7th, 2014 - 9:15pm

well I think space is just a bit more exiting

    • Drjakeyoung

      January 8th, 2014 - 12:49pm

Personally, I think every episode between spearhead from space to the invasion of time is great. Some may disagree, but I just think most 70s episodes are the best of dr who.

Before anyone asks, they have said that Capaldi’s costume doesn’t feature in the magazine, and therefore it IS Matt’s shirt and waistcoat that he’s wearing.
