Doctor Who Horror Of Fang Rock Vinyl LP

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

Demon Records presents the thrilling narrated TV soundtrack of this vintage four-part adventure at Sea, starring Tom Baker as the Doctor. A remote lighthouse in the early 1900s is the scene of this suspenseful adventure for the Doctor and leela, when a light in the sky and a sudden dense fog are the Preludes to a night of terror. With a lighthouse Keeper Dead, old Reuben fears the legendary beast of Fang rock has returned. A shipwreck brings others in search of shelter, but nobody’s safety can be guaranteed. The Doctor must use all his ingenuity if he and leela are to survive.

Presented across 2 x 140g vinyl discs in rutan Blob Green, this 1977 TV soundtrack is narrated by Louise jameson, who plays leela in the story. The supporting cast includes Colin Douglas, John Abbott, Alan Rowe, Sean caffrey and annette woollett. Incidental music is composed by dudley Simpson, and the familiar strains of the Doctor who theme are courtesy of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The coloured vinyl LPs are presented in a fully illustrated gatefold sleeve showing cast and credits, and inner bags featuring complete episode billings.

That cover, is even more stunning, in your hands. Its a much more glowy green as is the Vinyl Rutan. which ripples and looks so cute. a few tendrils (not asking for much) and it would look 100%.

Another smashing release ,with Oink creative ( John Conlon) design.

Random question: Is this collection random? Like will we get all classic who stories on vinyl or just a collection of some and if so, is there a criteria to their choices? I’m kinda loving the fact we just have no idea what’s next each time, like it was great to get paradise of death etc. Just curious about whether we’ll see any 80s or new who vinyl in this range, the latest they’ve gone so far is Destiny of the Daleks (at least in this style of cover anyway). I’d love to see some more 3rd doctor TV stories get releases as well!

these are basically LP versions of already released Full cast narrated original soundtracks on CD released over the years (doubt it would be viable to do a version on LP that hadn’t already been done on CD) so the list is not endless, many Missing stories were done, lots still could go to LP with quite a few 3rd Doctors including Doctor Who and the Silurians, The Sea Devils,The Curse of Peladon, The Monster of Peladon.

These are different to the Silva screen music soundtracks or the Read novelisations.

Think the only 80s soundtrack that got released on cd was warriors of the deep.

If I remember correctly, the Web Planet was LP exclusive until a few months later when the CD came out for the first time.

But I think the BBC “had that” in the vault, when the Soundtrack range ceased being. For some reason Planet of Giants was one I vaguely remember also being listed as comming soon. But It never came.

I suppose there is no Harm is asking for a story. (the more hits the same story gets in requests might bring it out quicker or even bring it out, as it was not thought of. (Warriors of the Deep, springs to mind, nobody wanted it then or now πŸ™‚ )

It does seem very random and as you say, lovely that we dont know whats next, and with RSD in june this year (2021) I assume there will be one then too (fingers crossed), cant believe it was 5 months ago, The Massacre came out

Yea My one complaint is a bit of the laziness. I get it’s a bit of continuity for the line but they COULD do a bit more with that gatefold ….. just say’n but I do love this collection.

It’s no different to the DVD covers all having roundels on them. The front cover art more than makes up for any repeated images elsewhere. I agree they could do more on the inside of the gatefold.

If the gatefold could be a clean image of the cover expanded to be more of a landscape I’d swoon

One of those stories that has improved with time, and is now near faultless. A top ten story for sure. Whilst I prefer 5 HInchcliffe stories to it, I think it now betters City of Death.

I think since Horror only one story beats it; Caves.

Truly a simple, economic and first rate story. The cover reflects that and with the exception of Ghosts/Paradise of Death, every Demon release has been stunning.

I don’t buy these generally but this cover is so lovely it would look great framed so very tempted!

Wonderful story and an object lesson in what do in a crisis with limited resources. Less is more! Loved it at the time and it has got better with age. Couple of dodgy effects don’t affect the drama. Better at doing Agatha Christie than ‘Robots of Death’!

Great story, although it’s season 15, it’s one last gasp of season 14 which was a great season!

If they could put out The Daleks, Edge of destruction, Dalek invasion of Earth or The rescue on Vinyl, thereafter they could release at a later date on audio CD, as they did with The Web Planet.

They have all been released on CD. A while ago now, but they have been released. I know I got most of the missing stories, but skipped most of the ones that were intact. I’m buying all the vinyls though, probably cause I’m older and have more money lol.

Bless! One of my all-time favourite stories. Season 15 is a favourite of mine and I loved the audio CDs of the series and the audio of the novelisation also read by Louise Jameson.

Amazing cover, a great story as I love lighthouses they are naturally spooky due to their location and sense of loneliness.
The best thing about audio is I bet that Rutan looks better in my head than he did on screen!

    Fabulous.

Lots hope the BF/DEMON/Asda range gets back up and running after the publicity, of 5 Releases.

Isn’t it one of the soundtrack releases from a few years back? There were a number of non Hartnell & Troughtons that were released and like Destiny of the Daleks this seems to be a vinyl release of one of those.
