Figurine Collection Magazine Time Lords Set #1

Hero Collector Announces New Doctor Who Time Lords Sets!

“I’m a Time Lord. I walk in eternity.”

Hero Collector – designers, manufacturers, and publishers of high-quality collectibles from across the worlds of pop culture – is proud to announce a brand new series of Doctor Who figurine box sets.

Based on the Doctor’s encounters with other members of their Gallifreyan race, the Doctor Who Time Lords sets will give fans an opportunity to collect some of the most memorable masters of the space-time continuum.

Each of the five sets will contain two Time Lords, faithfully recreated as hand-painted polyresin figurines at 1:21 scale (approximately 3.5 inches tall), complete with an in-depth companion magazine – highlighting the history, costumes, and stories behind these characters from the longest-running science fiction show on television!

The first Doctor Who Time Lords box set reunites two old friends – The Curator (Tom Baker) and the second incarnation of Romana (Lalla Ward).

The Curator was a mysterious Time Lord played by Tom Baker, the iconic actor behind the Fourth Doctor. In his brief meeting with Matt Smith’s Doctor, he hinted that he might be another incarnation of the Doctor – who knows? Who knows. The figurine captures the older Time Lord’s pensive air, one arm leaning on a cane and the other stroking his chin.

Romana (or Romanadvoratrelundar) was a rare Time Lord companion on the Doctor’s adventures, and (even rarer) his academic superior. Initially haughty, she and the Doctor soon warmed to each other. The figurine depicts Romana in her second incarnation, played by Lalla Ward, clad in her voluminous scarf and coat (echoing the Doctor’s own iconic outfit).

The Curator & Romana Box Set is going to be solicited in the January Diamond PREVIEWS catalogue, and will be available direct from HeroCollector.com or your favourite retailer in March 2020.

The box set joins Hero Collector’s ongoing range of 1:21 scale Doctor Who figurines, which explore aliens, monsters, robots, humans and Doctors from over five decades of classic science fiction TV.

Fans and collectors should stay tuned for further details about Hero Collector’s upcoming Doctor Who Time Lords box sets and others including Daleks and companions.

I was wondering if there was going to be a professor lazarus (of course in monster form) special coming up?

The Lazerus monster has been on my list of most wanted from the very beginning of the collection!! I have never seen another person request him though, good call.
He would make one of the most interesting figures, and I’m sure the magazine would be full of unknown details from the design process before they decided on his final look.
On that note, I would love an Empress of the Racnoss special.

Will have to start to save now then. Totally changing the subject.Does anyone know when they are supposed to take the payment off us for the werewolf special?

I’m assuming this collection will focus on better-known characters, rather than generic Time Lords? I would love to see figures showing the development of the Gallifreyan-look from The War Games on, taking in The Three Doctors, The Deadly Assassin, etc. Maybe even include a Chancery Guard? (Maxil from Arc of Infinity would fit the bill there.)

With all these sets being released it’s pretty obvious that the business model is switching to these away from the main line. As such I fully expect that the regular issues will end with 180.

Nope I think there are far too may figurines to do (as a fair few people want as many things as possible covered) everything they can and to make sure everything gets covered and keep people happy they are having to do some figurines as separate sets.

Well done to Nic and the team for doing stuff Character hasn’t been able to.

We wanted the War Chief to be included in this series. There’s one colour picture and the character is very underrated, but we don’t know who’s looking after the late, great Edward Brayshaw’s estate, and we’ve really tried finding out. We had a number of lines of enquiry but they’ve come to nothing, sadly.

Is there no one at the BBC that could help with this matter or maybe any agents of his? Would love to see a War Chief figurine in this collection.

    • Neil Corry

      December 2nd, 2019 - 5:38pm

The BBC have been, in fact, doing most of the legwork.

    • Basil Funkenstein

      December 2nd, 2019 - 5:45pm

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh fair enough, I wasn’t sure of that was the case. I agree it’s a bit of a shame that a War Chief figurine is unlikely but you and Ben spoil is so much I’d only think we’ll be that bothered.

    • Doug Who

      December 2nd, 2019 - 8:33pm

I think Neil’s comment here gives a little indication as to how difficult it must be to get everything in place to get approval for a figure to make it to the collection no matter how much we would like it to happen

The War Chief would have been a fantastic addition but sadly not to be. I’m looking forward to all that’s coming in 2020 and also have my fingers crossed that at some stage we can get some of the other, I think, underrated characters for example the Collector and Lady Adrasta to name but two.

The Time Lord series is an inspired way to add to this genuinely fantastic range.

My thoughts exactly Doug. I don’t think people appreciate the behind the scenes effort that goes into a product like this. The war chief would be a great figure as the character was physically striking but it was 50 years ago now and time plays a role in the realities of this kind of merchandise. Edward brayshaw died in 1990 and time and estate managers move on. Thanks to Neil for trying to get a figure made in the meantime let’s enjoy those that are getting done.

      December 2nd, 2019 - 11:08pm

I’m gutted to hear this, so desperately wanted The War Chief. Maybe a War Lord sometime instead? It is a sober reminder of the legalities involved, I wonder if this is what has held up a Celestial Toymaker figurine. May I suggest for future sets, Drax, Salyavin/Professor Chronotis, Azmael or Maxil.

Hey Neil, slightly left-field but tempted to recommend you (or someone else) share a post on the Kaleidoscope FB Group: it’s intended for missing episode hunting, but I gather by extension a number of people involved are very impressive in both their research skills and their knowledge of mid-20th Century British actors. Worth a try?

    Now we’re talking!

What a lovely and imaginative pairing and I just adore that Romana figure and amazing to see the Curator too. My favourite Doctor and Companion so is really the best range of merchandise ever in my opinion.

I’m also hoping we’ll see some more classic monsters and villains from both old and new series even if the regular figurine series has to come to an end…although obviously I hope that won’t be anytime soon.

I love this. In fact I love everything they have announced recently.

I am incredibly excited to see what else is on its way next year. I’m also intrigued about the Dalek set that has been teased that the blue Dalek is a part of.

Most importantly of all though I am most curious about whether or not there will be an extension to the main issues. We have been told by several people that Ben (Robinson) and Eaglemoss customer service have both confirmed an extension to 200 issues but there has been no official announcement.
