Doctor Who Jungles of Mechanus 5.5″ Dalek Set

This item has sold out but you could keep checking www.character-online.com

Alternatively you can search for this item at www.ebay.co.uk or check www.amazon.co.uk

An ebay seller also has items for customs such as Claws and Cutting Arms

USA /Australian/ Outside of the EU buyers will have the VAT deducted. The total USA delivered cost seems to be around $45 or even less depending on location.

This unique set includes 2 x highly detailed 5.5 inch scale Daleks with points of articulation, and comes beautifully presented in Heritage style Doctor Who branded packaging with specially created insert. A must have for all Doctor Who fans and collectors.

Way back in 1965, a six-part First Doctor story entitled ‘The Chase’ became famous in the eyes of Doctor Who fans for being special in many ways. It featured some unique ‘guest’ Daleks seen in Episode Three and Five. The exclusive Jungles of Mechanus Dalek Figure Set, has been created to offer something unique to delight fans and collectors and to pay homage to the unique Daleks seen onscreen. ‘The Chase’ storyline follows The First Doctor and his companions Ian, Barbara and Vicky who are forced to flee through time in the TARDIS after they learn that a group of Daleks, with their own Time Ship are following them with orders to exterminate!

An epic chase through space and time ensues, starting on the Planet Aridius and then continuing through locations including the Empire State Building, the ‘Marie Celeste’ ship, and even an old haunted house populated by classic horror characters. Heading to a final confrontation, the TARDIS lands on the Planet Mechanus, where the Daleks arrive shortly afterwards. Pursued by multiple Dalek patrols through the dense and aggressive Mechanus jungle, the travellers eventually come upon a strange metallic city suspended high in the sky which belongs to an equally evil robot species known as the Mechanoids.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Head of Product Development, went on to explain why for him it holds a special place in his heart.

“Firstly it’s the final adventure for the last of the original TARDIS companions, Ian and Barbara but it also features the first and last appearance of a race of robotic creatures the Mechanoids”

“Dalek aficionados will also know that it marks the appearance of some rather special ‘guest’ Dalek props that were seen in Episodes 3 and 5. At the time of filming the BBC were short of Dalek props having only three left. New Daleks were commissioned, but to fill the gap, they hired three Dalek props from the ‘Doctor Who and The Daleks’ movie.

“These ‘guest’ Daleks were chosen because they had sucker arms which matched the Daleks from the BBC series and two are seen in altered form, with their deep skirt bases and light covers removed. The second and more exciting appearances however, are two unaltered props glimpsed several times as part of the Dalek patrols pursuing the TARDIS crew through the Jungle.

“As fans will know, we’ve introduced the Dalek Twin pack sets starting with ‘The Daleks’ and ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ this year which begin to chart the chronological TV appearances of the Doctors greatest and oldest enemies. So, it was a fitting next step therefore to announce a new and unique Dalek Two figure Set which neatly dovetails into that series.

“It is these special ‘guest’ Daleks that we present here in our new Online Exclusive. With their distinctively different light covers and skirt bases along with unique metallic colours, this set brings the fans and collectors a one-off unique TV Dalek Action Figure never produced before.”

Finally been able to get mine as they were a Christmas present. They are superb! Very happy with them and hope this is the start of an excellent range of exclusives!

Hope they adapt the recon dalek sculpt and release a 2 pack of defence drones, one blue and one red (paint rather than actual light up due to cost)
If they do new sculpted figures as online exclusives, I’d love to see army builders/iconic characters i.e.
Missing cybermen variants: wheel, nightmare in silver, 2017 mondasian, ascension trooper (cybus or 2020 head variants, could be given a cape and cybermaster head as well to create 3rd variant)
      Jamie
Silurian 1970, 1984 and 1984 sea devil (warriors of the deep may not be the most loved but the villains are quite iconic)
Yeti (if the rights issue can be sorted)
      2013 ice warrior
      2013 zygon

For the regular range I’m hoping for:
      Dhawan Master
      Cybermaster
      Drone (Tron) Dalek

      For exclusives I’m hoping for:
      Dalek Caan and Supreme Dalek
      Yeti and Jamie
      Silurian and Sea Devil
      Time Controller Dalek and Lucie
9 Masters set for the 50th Anniversary including variants of the 8 on screen Master’s/Missy plus an Alex MacQueen

For B&M range I’m hoping for:
      Tegan, Nyssa, Adric
Liz, Jo, Sarah Jane (from Time Warrior)

Exclusives on top of your ideas that I’d love are:
Zygon and Bonnie (swappable heads for Clara and Bonnie) with bazooka and 2 Osgood boxes
2013 Ice Warrior and Monster of Peladon Ice Lord
      2013 cyberman and 2017 mondasian
      Rusty and Bradley 1st Doctor
      Rani and Valeyard

      B&M sets I’d love:
Ian, Barbara and Susan for companions of 1st doctor
Vicki, Steven and Dodo for 1st doctor set 2
Ben, Polly and Zoe for companions of 2nd doctor
Adric, Nyssa and Tegan for 5th doctor
Carnival Auton, Master and Jo Grant for Terror of Autons set (Master 50th anniversary year)
Smiling weeping angel, black shirt silence, whsipermen Series 7 set

For me, exclusives I’d love to see:
Any new Cybermen variants. As example, they could do an Attack of the Cybermen online exclusive twin pack with an updated Stealth Cyberman and the Cyber-Controller. They could also do twin-packs of new Cybermen figures, so two Wheel Cybermen, or two 2013 or 2020 Cybermen.

I’d love to see online exclusives of Jamie and the Yeti and the classic Silurians and the Eric Roberts Master, if the opportunity presents itself.

Also, personally, I’d love to see twin-packs based on Daleks! A Time Squad Commander and Executioner twin pack would be awesome. I also would love a twin pack of the Time Controller and Time Strategist from Big Finish’s audios. Granted, these, especially the latter two, are unlikely, but still.

Ultimately, I’m just really excited to see what happens with the online exclusives, as I feel that anything could happen.

Some excellent ideas there. Particularly the Ice Lord for me. Could go with a Silurian and Axon Man for enemies of 3rd Doctor.

I’d really like to see some new modern monsters get some attention as well. A pack of Tzim-Sha, Kerblam Man and Skithra Queen would be amazing! Alas, that’s probably too much for budgets to hope for.

I’d also like the one figure I’ve missed out on so far, Night of the Doctor McGann, to be released with a Clara and Rose (as the moment) for a B&M release.

      February 18th, 2021 - 9:34pm

Yes! Especially the Ice Warriors! My ideas for Ice Warrior sets would be an original story set featuring Rintan, Turoc and Isbur. Then there would be another set featuring a Warrior from Seeds of Death, Skaldak from Cold War and that Warrior with the big helmet and orangey eye protectors from Monster of Peladon. Another set would be the Ice Lord set containing Slaar from The Seeds of Death, Izlyr from Curse of Peladon and Azaxyr from Monster of Peladon. It might as well be called the Alan Bennion set! Then there would be a set containing Ssorg from Curse, Sskel from Monster and a 2013 Warrior.

I bought my ‘Movie’ Daleks on eBay. Paid a bit more for the set as was expected. But I left it late as I was undecided whether to purchase it or not. Glad I did now they look excellent, especially alongside the custom Peter Cushing Dr Who figure I managed to buy on eBay last year.

STILL not received mine. I ordered 4 sets (me and 3 friends as we thought it best (and cheaper!) to do a bulk order.

      VERY UNHAPPY.

Same situation as Steve and Whitestar, my order never arrived and there is apparently zero stock to offer replacements.
Disappointed, but at least there were no quibbles on a refund and that was received straight away.
I agree that a tracking option would be most welcome.

I had the same situation as well never recieved the ones via Royal Mail. I had to phone twice the lady I spoke to said she personally post the 2 sets (I think got the last 2 in the CO Office but if you phone make sure you have your order number and have to quote it . The next day received my sets via DPD. Both sets good quality. Good luck in getting your sets.

My buying experience has been exactly the same as Steve R. Word for word. I am beyond disappointed by the way this has been handled by CO. My personal view is that they were overwhelmed by the number of pre-orders and were unprepared to send these out on such a large scale altogether. I don’t now really believe my order was even posted – and that an internal error lead to this situation. I refuse to try eBay and I will think VERY hard about ordering anything again if tracking is not an option!

Mine was dispatched on Tuesday last week and arrived this morning (UK).

Unfortunately one of them has a noticeable scuff on the dome alongside a white paint scratch. Same one also has a warped/wavy plunger arm :/

Luckily the other one is ok 🙂

Emailed Character but idk what they can do. Hope I’m not being too fussy, haha.

I was going to ask about wavy plunger arms. Not on this one, but on others. I seem to recall hot water on them softens them up and you can then tease them back into straightness. Has anyone tried this?

Booboo, what’s the chances that they kept some back to put out for sale later? I find it weird that they still prominently have the set displayed frontpage on their website if they’ve sold all 5000. I can’t see why they’d hold any back though.

Character have stated that there are a small number in reserve in case of any being lost or damaged. I would imagine these will resurface at later date as previous ones have done as competition prizes etc.

      September 24th, 2020 - 11:25am

Just want to let everyone know that I’ve been in touch with CO again by email about my order (which has been marked as despatched for 18 days) which still hasn’t been delivered and today, after 2 days of silence, Customer Services unilaterally decided to refund my order – no offer of replacements just a perfunctory apology and ‘I can only presume your order has been lost in the Royal Mail System’

Really disheartened and upset by this whole process – sincerely hope if CO get another limited edition then they give everyone the option for a tracked delivery.

Now faced with having to go on eBay to try and secure a set at a reasonable price.

I do hope that no-one else ends up in the same position that I’m in at the moment.

      Stay safe!

WhoNA have always been excellent in shipping purchases in the most secure, well protected way possible. Alien Entertainment (The Doctor Who Store) has an equally excellent track record as well. Both stores simply appreciate that collector’s are collector’s, and provide customer service accordingly. It might cost just a bit more, but for a collector like myself, it’s well worth the expense. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the additional sets said to be released by the end of the year land at both sellers as well. It’ll make everything a whole lot easier for Stateside buyers such as myself.

My set from Character arrived today, UK to US, and it was case fresh mint. The form fitting sheath type box IS risky packaging in my opinion though. If the shipping box gets dented or damaged, so does the item, as there is no packing protection around the item. The longer the trip, the greater the risk.

Mine arrived on the 16th, UK to US. And mine too came in a form fitting box. I agree that such packaging is a bit risky. It was also difficult to remove without crumpling the original box the Daleks are in. However, as was your case, my box was mint, too.

And, my 2nd order from WhoNA is being delivered today. 🙂

Somewhat depressing it made it to you in the USA before me in London – certainly starting to worry now.. If they’re limited edition and they lost it, am I buggered? Still not to takeaway your wonderful Daleks – very glad they arrived safe and sound!

    • David Minter

      September 17th, 2020 - 10:50pm

Somewhat depressing for me is I had spend an extra $63 for another set in case my $43 order didn’t arrive from CO. 😉 But, it’s not like I won’t get some value out of a 2nd set. And I’d rather have 2 sets than risk the one set sent by Airmail that wasn’t trackable not arriving. If my US order doesn’t arrive because it got lost in the mail, I’d think it would be easier to track down or get a refund for versus my CO order sent from overseas. For instance, if my CO order had gotten lost, I doubt it could be found since it was sent without a traceable means. And I doubt CO would refund my money because how can I prove it didn’t arrive?

      September 18th, 2020 - 7:19am

Don’t worry Gerard it seems the shipping times have been uneven for people, poor David looks like he pointlessly over-spent for nothing. I’m up north in Canada and I saw on facebook in one the DW toy groups that someone in the province next to mine got theirs already on Tuesday but mine hasn’t arrived yet. I know someone in Aberdeen who hasn’t got theirs either yet and they ordered the day it was released. Mail is just really weird right now. I received a package from the UK on Monday when I ordered it Thursday of the previous week while another package (DW blu ray) I ordered from the US at the beginning of August only arrived yesterday. As I’ve said many times, it’ll come, just a bit of patience, CO is very good about this. If you are concerned, ring them up and talk to them, I’m sure they’ll be happy to help you out, their customer service is top-notch. I’ve made international calls on a calling card because they’re so good at their job.
Worst comes to worst they might be able to refund you or send you another one. Dealing with CO directly is very easy, there’s a reason I love their company a lot.

    • David Minter

      September 18th, 2020 - 4:09pm

Well, the way I see it, I can make the best of my 2nd set situation. I see it that most of the 5,000 sets will have been opened for army builders, displayers, and people who just want to play with them. Which means fewer would remain MIB. If I have a 2nd set I leave MIB, that increases the possibility it could rise in value.

    • David Minter

      September 19th, 2020 - 8:11pm

The set from WhoNA arrived as a box within a box. Apparently, CO sent their consignment of orders in individual boxes in a case. The individual boxes don’t have address labels on them. WhoNA left them in the CO boxes and shipped the CO boxes in a USPS box. The CO boxes in this case weren’t nearly as form fitting as the one I received from CO overseas.

After looking at the designs for the Ranking Daleks for Dalek Invasion Earth 2150, I would LOVE it if CO could acquire a limited license to the second movie, and release a set featuring a TV Roboman, a Movie Roboman, and a Movie Casing Dalek, with changeable Luminosity Dischargers i.e. a Red, Blue and Yellow set. That way buyers of the sets who: 1. Missed out on the TV Robomen or 2. Wish to own Movie Robomen, would have an Army Builder for them. Most importantly though, customisers would be able to create accurate versions of the Daleks from Dalek Invasion Earth 2150! Smart customisers could use the supplied casing, or modify a Dalek History #3 (The Chase) casing using the skirt from #2 and the relevant colour of Luminosity Dischargers (blue for drone, red for the Black/Red Dalek and Yellow for the Gold).
    One can but dream…

And my 2nd order from WhoNA should arrive Friday. 😉 I’d rather have 2 sets than risk my one set being lost in shipping by untraceable means. I can open one set and keep the other MIB.

That Cyberman has several variant possibilities as well, the cad exists but its whole new tooling, they will have to crunch the numbers.

Problem is Daleks sell, especially army building ones or those that can be used for unreleased customs, that why this set has done so well.

Surely Cybermen sell also, I mean, we really haven’t had a 5.5″ sinhle Cyberman figure released since the 20 ‘closing time’ variants from the series 6 range…

They do, always have, they have to work out if the massive tooling costs vs overall sales will work out OK

These were particularly unique as ‘movie’ daleks. They will have to pick other exclusives carefully to ensure they sell out.

I bought 6 sets and somehow still feel like it wasn’t enough and I feel regret that I didn’t order 2 more. xD

The whole success of this was based on multiple purchasers for army building and customs for movie Daleks, bought 6 sets myself, although 2 of those we might give away. I know people who bought 10.

Beside this site exists so none of its visitors need go without, collectors have had 3 weeks to buy this and several days warning it was about to sell out, Its what we are here for.

Wow, it really was just 3 weeks, almost exactly, before they sold all 5,000 sets. Surely, CO must see this as a success.

      September 16th, 2020 - 4:52pm

they will, but as many have mentioned it was bound to be a good seller on so many levels, the next sets will need to be something very special to perform as well.

Any thoughts booboo what another successful set might be?

      September 16th, 2020 - 5:26pm

Yes, spend the accrued revenue on a studio canal licence and some how work out away to produce 5.5″ Peter Cushing figure. Cheap to make but totally unique coloured Daleks as everything now exists.

But some market research would be need to be done to make sure that demand is still there.

Just because i would buy that like shot doesn’t mean 5000 others would.

At least you know there are quite a few variants from the 2 films they can use if they did get the license. And like you said, existing tooling already exists now so that is a cost saver already.

But yeah, have to see if there is a big enough market for movie dalek figures.

Who didn’t get any? 😛 As far as I can tell the only issue that would cause anyone that wanted one to not get one would be not having the money. People buying multiple sets wouldn’t affect that at all.

Booboo, I’d buy a Peter Cushing Dr. Who figure. 🙂 I bought the two Star Wars Grand Moff Tarkin figures to have a Peter Cushing action figure in my collection.

MJS – no it isn’t. People had plenty of opportunity to purchase what they wanted in the first few weeks of release.

      September 17th, 2020 - 2:37pm

Doesn’t bother me. I didn’t order any as it doesn’t interest me. But you can’t deny that if people didn’t purchase multiple sets, there’d be more to go around and they wouldn’t have sold out by today

      September 17th, 2020 - 4:38pm

People should be very very pleased these sold out in 3 weeks because of multiple buyers, good on them, otherwise they might never sell out, or take to long, leaving future sets in jeopardy, there were 4000 of each Missy’s Both very individual, and she was supposed to be the start of a new online collectors range, but she was still for sale 2 years later and was sold off half price, until now we never got another offering.

Same here. Contacted customer services and they advised me to wait until Thursday and then let them know if they haven’t been received, they mentioned dispatching another set if not received by then.
Hopefully they still have some in reserve to send if that is the case.

Somewhere on this planet there are 10,000 Daleks

      Indeed :).
And my fan centre is thinking add in the bad boys from the recent History Of The Daleks sets (5000 of each set presumably) and we have 30,000 Daleks very recently now lurking on Planet Earth 🙂

This bodes really well for future History of the Daleks releases, being sold directly from Character Options. I’ve already got a model of a similar Dalek from Product Enterprise – it’s such a good colour scheme. Really looking forward to the next releases.

      Seek..locate.. purchase!

They’re definitely showing as out of stock now. Is that it, ie the whole 5000 units, or do you think they will have more to add on, seeing as how the stock level has been fluctuating?
