Doctor Who and the Daleks (Illustrated edition) Hardcover

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk and www.forbiddenplanet.com

By DAVID WHITAKER Illustrated by ROBERT HACK With an introduction by NEIL GAIMAN

A special illustrated version of Doctor Who and the Daleks, the first and greatest Doctor Who novel, will be published this Autumn.

‘[Doctor Who and the Daleks] was my talisman … read this book. Visit another world’– Neil Gaiman

Doctor Who and the Daleks was the very first Doctor Who novel, published in 1964, the year after the show began. Written by Doctor Who’s story editor, David Whitaker, its rich style and depth of characterisation helped set the bar for the hundreds of Doctor Who novels and novelisations that followed. Now BBC Books is delighted to be publishing an edition of Whitaker’s classic that brings a visual element to match his peerless text, with lavish illustrations by acclaimed comic book artist Robert Hack.

Adapted from Terry Nation’s first Dalek story, Doctor Who and the Daleks sees Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright caught up in the flight through time and space of the mysterious Doctor and his granddaughter Susan. They travel in the TARDIS to the planet Skaro, where they strive to save the peace-loving Thals from the evil intentions of the hideous Daleks. Can they succeed? And if they do, will Ian and Barbara ever again see their native Earth?

This is the ultimate edition of an iconic novel – a deluxe volume that embraces both proud tradition and modern innovation to present the drama of a Dalek dystopia as you’ve never seen it before..

For Troughton I would like Tomb of the Cybermen or The Ice Warriors
Pertwee – The Cave Monsters or Curse of Peladon
      T. Baker – The Ark in Space or Pyramids of Mars
      Davison – Earthshock or Enlightenment
C.Baker – Vengeance on Varos or The Two Doctors
McCoy – The Curse of Fenric or Battlefield

Once we have one of each of the Classic Doctors hopefully we will more New Doctors Novelisations to choose from.

Neil Gaiman wrote the introduction to the reprint of The Daleks, so will this be the same introduction, or perhaps revised to comment on the illustrations, or even completely new?

Looks really nice, but I must have a dozen different editions of this book already, I’m not sure I need another… If it’s cheap in The Works I may pick one up.

Well this certainly came from no where. Only hope it’s not abridged. Though I’m guessing it will be. Still, worth a look though.

Don’t think it is abridged. I’m not getting it as I have a perfectly serviceable copy and money is becoming increasingly tight but it looks good

This has disappeared from all listings now. Not sure what’s happening or if it is getting released or not. Same thing happened last year with a new Tom Baker autobiography that was announced then vanished.

The 2016 Ebury Publishing hardback was 160 pages. This BBC Books version is 256 pages according to the current description…

The page count increases because of the amount of illustrations.

What is this? Hasn’t it always been illustrated? Unless is a large format book with new illustrations. Or, as I hope, it’s a large format illustrated version of the movie

Its Written by David Whitaker MJS, which indicates its the original novel. Which has had illustrations from the original, i cant remember if the recent 2016 hardback version had any illustrations.

I would love this to have full colour plates throughout but as the last version has 160 pages and the new version above 256. Its looking very promising .

I think it will be similar to the Harry Potter illustrated books. Large format with full colour illustrations throughout the text.

The dimensions on it indicate large format as well
