Character Options announces a new range of Doctor Who collector sets

THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN set will be available to order from July 20th 2021

Character Options has today revealed the next instalment of Doctor Who collectors’ sets, available exclusively online on the Character Options website.

This Character Options online exclusive set celebrates one of the most iconic, and now sadly lost, adventures of Patrick Troughton’s tenure as the Second Doctor – The Abominable Snowmen. The set includes an electronic classic TARDIS and a Second Doctor figure.

The electronic classic TARDIS, featured by Character Options for the first time in over a decade, comes with different take-off and landing sounds. The TARDIS also features the more heavily weathered exterior and new colour plus the unique reversed front doors.

The new Second Doctor figure is a truly unique release, featuring the usual highly decorated look combined with full articulation on the arms.

The Abominable Snowman, first aired on 30th September 1967, sees fans join the Second Doctor in his eighth story. Set in 1935, the TARDIS has materialised high in the Himalayas where The Doctor is trying to return a relic, a holy bell, borrowed several hundred years earlier, to the High Lama of the local Monastery. Unbeknownst to the Doctor and his companions, things have taken a dark turn and the monastery has been infiltrated by an ancient and evil alien entity known only as The Great Intelligence. The alien is using robot versions of the Yeti’s, better known as ‘the Abominable Snowmen’ a usually passive creature, to attack anyone coming near the monastery. As the Doctor becomes involved, and the full horror of what’s going on becomes clear, he vows to thwart its plans.

Al Dewar of Character notes some of the special things about this 1967 story and development of this new set.

“The Abominable Snowmen is, much like the ‘Jungles of Mechanus’ collectors set before it, quite unusual and features a lot of unique features in terms of its production. For instance the TARDIS itself is unusual in its weathered appearance, with the exterior paint covering the top signs and the colour appearing slightly more indigo than usual. Its look is generally more beaten up and scruffy than fans would usually see and features fully reversed front doors with the phone cubby box sign on right hand door with no handles. The Doctor’s look in this story echoes that of the TARDIS, with the addition of a huge shaggy fur coat held together with twine.

“It’s fair to say fans have waited an astonishingly long time for both these products and we believe fans and collectors will embrace this new electronic TARDIS and the Second Doctor in his iconic shaggy coat as depicted in this classic story.”

Perfect for all Doctor Who fans and collectors, the set comes beautifully presented in special presentation pack with diorama insert and Doctor Who heritage packaging.

It will retail at £39.99 and be available for pre-order in the UK from 20th July 2021 on the Character Options Website

My GOODNESS it was a harrowing (figuratively speaking) experience pre-ordering mine! Besides the website buckling under the pressure of the scaplers (prove me wrong), the first time I tried to order it, the site “somehow” stuck FOUR into the basket instead of one. A shocking Paypal payment screen later, I had to change the amount back to one, make sure to agree to the terms and conditions, make sure to say “no” to the mailing list, then re-check the basket to make sure Character hadn’t made the same mistake again. After FINALLY completing the order, I made sure to download a PDF of the completed order, just in case things happen to go awry (you never know these days). I’m relieved that the website hasn’t crashed outright (yet), though I don’t like it that Character stealthily still charged us for postage (hence why its £39.99). Looking forward to watching the official announcement video from Al!

I thought i would never get through. Been clicking since 10am and it took 35 minutes to finally get my order processed. I accidentaly ordered 2 the first time as it came up £79.98 on paypal checkout, so i had to to go to my history page and start all over again. Got me a little frustrated with the speed.

Okay I love this set but not the price to the point were I may have to skip this set since I cant justify £39.99 on what is almost close to a B&M set with lights and sound there not even a insert in the Tardis for the console room like for the price u would think there would be something more to try to justify the cost but its a figure of the second doctor with out any accessories and the tardis witch looks amazing but is still lacking the back inside I know you can do one your self but it feels wrong for the price to try and put this out at 39.99 and not something like 30.99 or something

I’m pleased with the price personally, I was expecting £40-45 lol. I’d say it’s reasonable and the reason it doesn’t have an insert is because it didn’t have one in the show.

To be honest you may regret not buying it. Looks awesome to me

Limited Edition exclusives will always be more expensive than the basic B&M range as they are produced in larger numbers.

The 13th Doc Electronic Tardis was £25 on it’s own last year. Add in an exclusive, never before released 2nd Doctor which could retail at £12.99 and ‘free delivery’ then price is reasonable.

I do however collect NECA Gremlins and TMNT movie figures and Super7 Thundercats Ultimates too though so am used to paying even higher prices for 1 figure.

Do we know how many there are for this one?

40 quid for a tardis and a figure I mean come on! Yes it has electronics and a new figure but for an online exclusive I would’ve expected at least 25-30 quid not 10x that amount

NICE. I didn’t get a War Games TARIS due to the problems surrounding it but this one looks much better and I feel like I should have a TARDIS for my favourite Doctor. Also, we get a new figure we’ve wanted for years!

lol, I’m pretty sure it’s you who I replied to a comment yesterday on YouTube saying I see you everywhere and now here you are haha.

Out of curiosity what problems surrounded the War Games TARDIS? Was it the fact it was grey because I wanted it too until I found out it was that colour and not the blue on the original promo image. 🙂
