Character Options announces a new range of Doctor Who collector sets

THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN set will be available to order from July 20th 2021

Character Options has today revealed the next instalment of Doctor Who collectors’ sets, available exclusively online on the Character Options website.

This Character Options online exclusive set celebrates one of the most iconic, and now sadly lost, adventures of Patrick Troughton’s tenure as the Second Doctor – The Abominable Snowmen. The set includes an electronic classic TARDIS and a Second Doctor figure.

The electronic classic TARDIS, featured by Character Options for the first time in over a decade, comes with different take-off and landing sounds. The TARDIS also features the more heavily weathered exterior and new colour plus the unique reversed front doors.

The new Second Doctor figure is a truly unique release, featuring the usual highly decorated look combined with full articulation on the arms.

The Abominable Snowman, first aired on 30th September 1967, sees fans join the Second Doctor in his eighth story. Set in 1935, the TARDIS has materialised high in the Himalayas where The Doctor is trying to return a relic, a holy bell, borrowed several hundred years earlier, to the High Lama of the local Monastery. Unbeknownst to the Doctor and his companions, things have taken a dark turn and the monastery has been infiltrated by an ancient and evil alien entity known only as The Great Intelligence. The alien is using robot versions of the Yeti’s, better known as ‘the Abominable Snowmen’ a usually passive creature, to attack anyone coming near the monastery. As the Doctor becomes involved, and the full horror of what’s going on becomes clear, he vows to thwart its plans.

Al Dewar of Character notes some of the special things about this 1967 story and development of this new set.

“The Abominable Snowmen is, much like the ‘Jungles of Mechanus’ collectors set before it, quite unusual and features a lot of unique features in terms of its production. For instance the TARDIS itself is unusual in its weathered appearance, with the exterior paint covering the top signs and the colour appearing slightly more indigo than usual. Its look is generally more beaten up and scruffy than fans would usually see and features fully reversed front doors with the phone cubby box sign on right hand door with no handles. The Doctor’s look in this story echoes that of the TARDIS, with the addition of a huge shaggy fur coat held together with twine.

“It’s fair to say fans have waited an astonishingly long time for both these products and we believe fans and collectors will embrace this new electronic TARDIS and the Second Doctor in his iconic shaggy coat as depicted in this classic story.”

Perfect for all Doctor Who fans and collectors, the set comes beautifully presented in special presentation pack with diorama insert and Doctor Who heritage packaging.

It will retail at £39.99 and be available for pre-order in the UK from 20th July 2021 on the Character Options Website

I got my Figure and Tardis delivered last night. It took a short amount of time. Ordered it and received it, in the USA, less than 2 weeks. Very nice surprise, when my wife told me it came in. Love the 2nd Doctor in fur coat. Very happy to have the Tardis with the reversed door signage. Hope more is to come.

I’m in the US. Got mine today. Eight days to get here. Not to bad for time, I was expecting longer. But it was a damaged box (crumpled up), which I was expecting, so I opened this one up. Dr. and Tardis ok, no damge there, and works well.

The reason why it is, is because on the actual prop in the episode, the police telephone sign was on the right, instead of the left.

Heres a question bobo any one why are just figers for sale on e bay at £45 a time, why why would some one buy a set and just sell the figeri dont understand why they do that?

    • Andyuk70

      July 27th, 2021 - 10:12pm

I’d guess that it was because they only wanted the TARDIS and not the figure? (And there may be some buyers who only want the figure and not the TARDIS?)

I really am quite at a loss as to how some folks who order on Tuesday got theirs delivered next day while others, including myself, ordered a little later and are still waiting on them? Dispatch email arrived (in my junk folder) on Thursday and here we are on Tuesday and nothing has turned up. I’d wanted to give this to my son as a reward for an excellent term at school after a tumoltuous year and thought I’d easily be able to do so on Saturday. Guess again. Oh well, I thought, Monday is ok – first day proper of the holidays, I can give it to him then, it will still have meaning. Guess again…

Now, as much as postage is “free” with these things, it isn’t really, it’s built in to the price so why the disparity with some people getting next-day DPD delivery while the rest get sketchy Royal Mail delivery? I’ll be very pleased when the parcel turns up and as disappointing as the experience has been it wouldn’t prevent me from purchasing future internet exclusives but last years took an age to arrive too. All very frustrating though.

Nice, booboo! 😀 What do you think of it?

I think the TARDIS is possibly the nicest looking one they’ve ever done in my opinion (at least from what I’ve seen of pictures of other TARDISes and the ones I have). It looks so real somehow. I think it’s the weathering maybe, but either way they’ve done a fantastic job painting it I think.

I know how you guys feel, about two weeks ago I ordered four Star Wars Black series figures from a UK collectors site but they still haven’t arrived. I’ve ordered from them many times before, they pack items very well and post very quickly usually. However Ive Just emailed them this morning to see if they can offer any advise.

I think the Androzani set was probably the best one. The shape and top signs of the TARDIS were accurate, and a really nice paint job. The only differences from the actual TARDIS in Androzani being that the lamp didn’t have a block under it and the top signs weren’t narrow

All the sets are lovely, but it is a shame they didn’t make different sculpts for each exterior. A 60s TARDIS set would basically be a repainted 80s TARDIS

Sadly sending both of mine back which i have never done, I’m actually not that critical as many people know but one has a very dented box and missed paintwork to door, sticks out a mile, and the other has the windows to one side glued in completely the wrong place which looks awful.

Pretty naff day all round for me, CO have assured me of replacements

Loving my set which arrived yesterday! Getting me excited for the new B&M sets and after what we were treated to last yet I’m hoping for new classic companions!! I’d love some 60s ones. An Unearthly Child set with Ian, Barbara and Susan would be amazing! And would also loved Tegan, Nyssa and Adric!
