      June 11th, 2013 - 6:42pm

It’s pretty basic, not that great a figure, seems to be the weakest of the wave. Very little articulation, only in the shoulders and the neck, but apart from that, the figure is nice, but just lacks a decent paint application and articulation, otherwise it would be a really great figure, but I understand it’s difficult with the scale

No, RRP is £9.99 but BBC Shop has the Cold War Playset for an extra £1 for some reason, not sure why, but they should be £9.99 in all shops, if you’re expected to pay much more than that I would wait and buy it from somewhere else.

I neither like or dislike them. I do think that Matt Smith is incorrectly proportioned and that his face is a little like the Tarco vending machine figure. Clara, I am not convinced on either. The monster figures are great.

I am not sure about the chase element. I have every 5in single figure except one autograph card variant and one Top Trump variant. But I cannot see myself getting a full chase set. It really depressed me yesterday reading about all the variants when I have already travelled several hundred miles 1st weekend they were out.

The scale change has failed. It was supposed to get retailers back into selling Dr who, it hasn’t worked, they still don’t want to get Dr who stuff.

My evidence: Smiths, Tesco, Fenwicks and John lewis all used to sell DW stuff back in ’09 and sice then they’ve got less and less until now there is none…

    Reply
    • whovastatron

      June 9th, 2013 - 6:54pm

they’ve been out for one week. Tesco took ages to get them in the ol’ days. Entertainer has them in stock now though, they stopped DW stuff after Series 2 (I’ve been informed its because they didn’t agree with the Satan Pit). They started to get some series 6 figures last year. But now it seems they’re back in action!

    • Dalek Caan

      June 9th, 2013 - 6:56pm

Yeah maybe I shouldn’t judge this early on as your right: it has only been a week

    • Androzani12

      June 9th, 2013 - 7:07pm

That’s Not evidence! maybe your store had not had the delivery yet! Character cannot deleiver a box o figures to every store in brtiain in the first weeks of release! and BOOBOO has said already their has been no reports about supermarkets getting them in… and some stores might not have put their order in yet as they might have old stock they still have not sold! so it does not mean it has not worked..

    • The Monitor

      June 9th, 2013 - 7:28pm

It is very difficult to judge what shops other than FP and TRU will do.

Last year I explored a newly opened Smythe’s and only one DW item was there and stored sideways as there was no designated space.

John Lewis as cut its range back to plush’s. Not surprising as they sold of cheap so much Who stuff earlier in the year. I would imagine that it is not viable for them. Shame as it is such a good shop.

Debenhams had a special display stand 2-3 years ago and nothing since.

      Wilco has discontinued.

Asda reduced to 2-3 items in larger stores.

    • The Monitor

      June 9th, 2013 - 7:32pm

Shops like Argos only do new merchandise round about new-catalogue launches.

It is very difficult getting merchandise now. I have not seen a single shop selling the two new CB sets. One Entertainer I know only does the science sets. Another new branch has a very small range.

A large old-fashioned toy shop I visited recently is lumbered with 3-4 year old items.

    • The Monitor

      June 9th, 2013 - 7:37pm

You can see why shops are nervous about Doctor Who.

Furthermore, many shops experienced a box of figures with one of some and four of others and were lumbered with the common ones. This frustrated the sellers as much as us buying it.

This no doubt is part of the reason for a complete new range, to divorce themselves from past niggles.

Ironically, there is so much merchandise coming out these days. No one shop even gets 10% of it in, and a whole city would not even scrape 20%. In 2007 you could buy stuff from 10 different high street shops.

    • KORSAIR

      June 9th, 2013 - 8:44pm

Argos is probably (hopefully) the best chance for new Dr Who merchandise when the new catalogue comes out, which is soon.

Thanks Booboo for using my pics! Quite fond of the Doctor and Spock and the TARDIS landing on the Enterprise ones. And a big thumbs up to everyone else for getting so creative with their pics too!
