I live in East Anglia and lost my nerve last week on getting these sets locally. I did a 340 mile road trip via the A1 and managed to find the 5 classic sets I wanted in Lincolnshire branches.

I figured that it would cost me at least £10 extra a set on eBay so if I spent less than £50 on fuel it would be worth the road trip. My fuel cost was £33!

I’m lucky in that I have a car, the cash and the time to devote to the hunt. I hope everyone in the drought areas has the opportunity to get them locally soon… it’s horrible not being able to get the sets. B&M are selling these to collectors and hopefully they understand that we’re completists!

      Well Richard,
One of the best stories I’ve heard. Such loyalty to Dr Who, 340 miles, WOW.

Thanks. I’ve been a fan since the early 1970s. These figures are what we dreamed of owning back then!

You must be similar age to me, I was born in the late Sixties and my earliest memories of Dr Who were the very early 70s.

Yes, the first story I can remember watching was a compilation repeat of The Sea Devils which I’ve since researched and found out was Dec 1972.

When I add up all the times I’ve driven round the 4 Derbyshire stores waiting for stock (a round trip of 23 miles) I’ve probably done as much as you!

    • Richard

      October 24th, 2020 - 9:00pm

@Spacewarp: Awful isn’t it! My nearest store is a 30 mile round trip – another reason why I decided on a single longer journey to an area that was stocking all of the sets.

Just had a look on eBay and there is someone who has TWELVE Terror of the Zygons sets for sale ……unbelievable!
They must have paid £240 (plus the rest) when they went in store.
By the way they come from Worcester which is in the West Midlands . Nothing down here in the South West ☹️

CARDIFF “Culver House Cross” and the Bay haven’t got anything. NOTHING actually since they gave the release date. I’m just about fed up of travelling to and fro from store to store; now we’re entering a LOCKDOWN I’ve no chance. I see the sets on eBay at extortionate prices and Amazon marketplace. It’s FRUSTRATING. B&M need to get their act together over how the merchandise is distributed

I’m in the same position. Theres nothing in Cardiff. My recommendation would be to go on to Facebook if you have it and join lots of Character Options and Doctor Who figure Facebook groups. There are some kind souls out there (not scalpers) who purchase sets and send them out to fans at retail + postage. It works out a tiny bit more but I did this and got my 5th Doctor set and my Friends of the 13th Doctor set at retail + about £6 which, for me, was somewhat worth it!

I’d be of the same opinion Coleman, if it weren’t for the Christmas decs/other toys/homewares stacked to the ceiling in every store, and mountains of unpacked boxes.

Booboo, am I right in thinking its twelve to a delivery box of the three figure sets three of each type, or am I wrong about that, and how many of the two types of the Daleks sets? Thanks.

    Reply
    • booboo

      October 22nd, 2020 - 1:05pm

no they changed that to “solids” last year so its a box of 12 of all the same sets (hence the different codes now) They used to have all the same codes so it was 4 of each per box

Only the Daleks have the same code no and are mixed.

    • Bryan Of Morbius

      October 22nd, 2020 - 4:28pm

Thanks Booboo, so to carry the thee figure sets it’d be three big boxes which would be too much stock of each for a small branch overladen with Halloween and Christmas stock already to order in then, would work better if a mix as less space/stock sitting around. Not the best time to come out!

Nothing at the Interchange branch (as of yesterday) or the Bury Road branch (as of today) in Ipswich, and at this point I’m at a loss to understand why B&M are continuity with such disparity.

booboo, this website (and the many who frequent it) seem to be the only people who are trying to help the situation, and I’m very much indebted to booboo for the huge amount of time, patience, and the amount of hair-pulling they’ve ended up doing during this craziness.

Any excuse B&M would give now in regard to many, MANY areas that still have nothing, holds no water when the areas directly supplied by their main distribution centre have seemed unaffected by all of this. It can’t be because of a stock shortage, because areas in the north are getting their stock replenished. It can’t be because of stores having too much stock of the previous wave/the new wave being too similar, because the stores in the north still received all of the new sets. B&M can’t even play the C19 Card, because otherwise all of the affected stores would be short on all stock items (and we all know they are still receiving deliveries).
If this situation is still present by November, then SURELY someone high-up in B&M, if not Character Options (who MUST have received enough misplaced complaints by now), will be forced to take a good, hard, look into this, because I’ve never in my years as a collector, or in my previous years in retail, seen ANYTHING this crazy before…

      October 22nd, 2020 - 12:33pm

Trust me they know and are fully aware, but what we dont know is whats behind it, if the stocks coming and distribution is problem because of the crazy world we are in right now then fair enough its just the not knowing and only B&M can answer that ( and i have tried ).

These are aimed and collectors though and there is a lot of frustration setting in as realistically half the country can’t buy these at the moment.

    • Richard

      October 22nd, 2020 - 12:54pm

I think it is fairly safe to assume that this is Covid related isn’t it? The previous sets after the initial problems from a couple of years ago have been relatively easy to track down.
I believe B&M are North Western England based (Liverpool?) and I presume they have regional distribution centres. Who knows what problems the head office are having as they are right in the epicentre of the current outbreak.
Is it not possible that the Southern distribution centre is currently either not working or working at reduced capacity and the Northern centre is OK. This would certainly explain the lack of anything in the South.
I guess as Booboo says it’s the not knowing that kills you…

Just an update that we have been checking the app several times a day and looking around as where others have found stock and there appears to be no movement on The Tardis or 3 figure sets getting to Cornwall, Devon Somerset, Wales, Leicestershire , The east and South East and much Of London and the South.

We have not been able to get any information as to when of even if these sets will reach the locations.

Once again will re-open if we see some movement.

Hi, I went to two B&M stores in Leicester; one at Haymarket and one at Belgrave Gate. I didn’t have time to check the one at St George’s though, apologies. The one at Haymarket had 1 Unit Claws of Axos sets, A couple of 2nd Doctor and TARDIS sets, a few 3rd/4th Doctor Companion sets and plenty of the Friends and Foe of the 13th Doctor sets.

The one at Belgrave had three, 3 figure sets from way back 2017 or 2018 (not entirely sure), one 3rd Doctor and TARDIS set (Monsters of Peladon), one 4th Doctor Sontaran set and one TheTwo Doctors figure set, and plenty of the Friends and Foe of the 13th Doctor sets.

‘Did speak with the supervisor at the Haymarket store and he said that the October Dalek sets are on promotion, meaning they’ve been sold to other B&M stores (or they’re sold out, not entirely sure), not in Leicester. I did tell him that the Dalek sets have been produced in their thousands, but he’s not sure if they’ll receive them later on in the next-month.

I know that this may not be helpful but, I hope I’ve kept some fellows living in Leicester and Leicestershire noted. Also, I did see a B&M truck enter into the Belgrave store but, I’ve no clue if there are any new sets in the trailer.
