Big Finish The Torchwood Archive

Available to order from www.bigfinish.com

A special feature-length story celebrating 10 years of Torchwood!

The Torchwood Archive

“Welcome, visitor. The Torchwood Archive provides a complete history of our Institute from its distant beginnings to the present day. When we founded our great enterprise in the year of our Lord 1879, we decreed that there should be a record of this achievement, stored at the very furthest limits of the British Empire. By visiting you are spreading that legacy, perhaps out through the skies. For now, I shall bid you a good day and welcome you to the Torchwood Archive. Do, please look around.”

The Torchwood Archive is a forgotten asteroid in the centre of a great war. Jeremiah is its first visitor in many centuries. He’s come to learn something very important. And the ghosts of Torchwood are waiting for him.

Awesome! Shame about Burn but this looks epic. I now strongly believe Torchwood will return to TV soon…

I would love it either back in Cardiff or perhaps the team could go and find “Torchwood 4” or go to “Torchwood 2” in Glasgow.

A story arc about finding Torchwood 4 would be interesting…an idea could be that the branch severed itself from the rest of the institute for certain reasons..?

perhaps Torchwood 4’s main aim was to kill Jack? Maybe Victoria saw him as a threat, as he came from the future and knew the doctor, so she created an independent organisation to try and kill him. However Jack nor the other institutes knew this. Then employees who worked for Torchwood 4 became “The Three Families” and to cover themselves, disconnected Torchwood 4 from the world to prevent being caught. They then caused Miracle Day, to make Jack mortal, and to kill him. Just an idea 🙂

…and because the Three Families are enablers of the Committee, this was part of their plan to eliminate Jack. The Families probably didn’t know this, so most of them were probably drones to the Comittee with the leading members being enablers.

Maybe Torchwood 4 is still in operation? Working in maxium secrecy with the Committee’s influence.? Im getting carried away now xD

There’s a trailer on the Big Finish page, sounds like everyone cast plays a valid part. I guess they were recording this bit by bit as they recorded the first 12 stories…makes sense from a scheduling point of view. Cant wait for it though!

The podcast today announced that series 3 will start in March 2017, with ‘Visiting Hours’ (starring Kai Owen and Nerys Hughes) and ‘The Doll’s House’. Once again, the series will feature John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd.
(presumably the reason for the break is to allow for the production of Archives, Outbreak and the other promised Torchwood releases including the one with Jackie Tyler teased earlier this year)

I doubt the Jackie Tyler audio drama is a Torchwood release. Jackie has nothing to do with Torchwood and the clip sounded like it came from a Doctor Who release given Jack seemed to be about to tell her a story about when he was travelling with the Doctor and Rose. My guess is a ninth Doctor ‘Companion Chronicle’ (only released under a different/new brand like ‘The Many Lives of Captain Jack Harkness’).

Yeah good point, I heard that clip and I can see what you mean. However, it has been strongly implied that more BF Torchwood news (along with series 3) is on its way…

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any time Burn Gorman has said he categorically wouldn’t return to the role (correct me if I’m wrong) – my guess is that (much like Matt Smith and David Tennant) he’s a busy actor who works away from Britain a lot, and given time, he may eventually find a weekend to record one or two stories for Big Finish.
They currently have the licence until 2025 for both Torchwood and Doctor Who, so there is plenty of time. I imagine that as soon as they have the chance to do a full-cast series 1-2 story, they will.

All of the leading cast from the past audios (including Norton Folgate, Queen Victoria and a couple of supporting characters) are returning.
Most of the rest of the supporting cast in here have featured in previous Big Finish Torchwood audios as different characters.
Also note the appearance of Julian Lewis Jones returning as Alex Hopkins, the Torchwood member from ‘Fragments’ in the 1999 segment who **SPOILER** shot the rest of the team at the turn of the millennium.
