Radio Times Doctor Who anniversary editions re-issued
Big Finish Productions are set to release deluxe hardback reissues of the Radio Times specials which celebrated Doctor Who’s tenth and twentieth anniversaries.
Doctor Who has been entertaining fans for over sixty years now, and every anniversary has been marked with a celebration. For the show’s tenth and twentieth anniversaries, in 1973 and 1983, the iconic listings magazine Radio Times put out special celebratory editions.
Those two classic magazines have now been restored and are due to be republished as collector’s edition hardback books, released this November by Big Finish Productions.
The magazines are packed with features, including interviews with Doctor Who actors and creatives, as well as original fiction by Daleks creator Terry Nation and series script editor Eric Saward.
Big Finish senior producer John Ainsworth said: “The 10th anniversary and 20th anniversary Radio Times specials were unique publications, marking Doctor Who’s first two significant anniversaries. Both offered insights into the series and its history, and became treasured, well-thumbed reference works by all who bought them.
“The original publications are now rare to find, and – due to their magazine format – even rarer to find in good condition. So, it’s particularly exciting that Big Finish now has the opportunity to publish, for the first time, exact replicas of both these specials, in hardback volumes.
“Painstaking work has been carried out to restore photographs, and to make these specials accurate in every detail, replicating the original publications. These two books will become essential works in any Doctor Who library.”
The Radio Times Doctor Who 10th and 20th Anniversary Specials are now available to pre-order for £25 each, or £45 for a multi-buy bundle of the two books.

I still have my 20th anniversary mag complete with poster (albeit detached and with blu-tack marks on the back!) My tenth anniversary mag got lost in the mists of time but I managed to get a very decent copy on ebay for around £15.

August 21st, 2026 - 3:30pmThe original magazine was without doubt the most beautifully put together magazine on the subject of Doctor Who. I don’t have the original magazine my brother got me back in 1973. But I managed to pick up copy many years later. It hard now to think that back 1973 as a fan so little was known about the history of the series. Since I was only ten at the time. This magazine was a real eye opener. So many beautiful pictures. I picked up the twenth in 1983 . Which I still have. Not quite as good as the tenth.as by then we had DWM and fanzines. Original Doctor Who is all about memories, when you first remember Doctor Who and how far back you can go back. Which in my case was late 1968. These two magazines bring those memories back .

August 21st, 2026 - 8:34pmThe 1973 cover was beautiful….some of the black and white photos inside were a bit grainy….
And the companions messing about….Cybermen chasing them on a beach, or pretending to run from a Yeti….my 5 year old mind found that a bit confusing….
And I was too young for the Terry Nation story…
But now of course, I consider it a timeless, ha ha, classic…

2) Will the 20th come with a poster like the original magazine?
3) Are they “annual” format? By that I mean, will they have dust jackets? Dust jackets get really tatty after a while. The “annual” format is a lot more robust. TY

(whispers) I had this back in the day . May have been the first piece of Who merchandise first. I had The Making Of … with the Third Doctor/Sea Devil cover. So that might have been first.

August 21st, 2026 - 12:50amI definitely got the Adventure With The Daleks, The Zarbi, and The Crusaders before the TARGET range kicked off with the Troughton / Pertwee stories. Thought The Crusaders was really dull at first but these days, its a favourite. Then I picked up The Cybermen and The Abominable Snowmen.

Then I walked into WH Smiths, and there was a Dr Who book with a Cyberman on the cover…!
That was my very first DW book I read….

Then a family friend saw me reading it and gave me the dalek book by David whitaker. My dad, who loved books, bought me abominable a few weeks later. For my birthday that year I got 10 target books and was hooked

Gerry Davis missed a trick in not describing these Cybermen as the ‘almost human’ Mondas ones, with their cloth faces, human hands etc….
And he should have said that the year was 1986…!

August 21st, 2026 - 12:45pmGerry Davis wasn’t great at continuity lol. Moonbase Ben and polly are from the 1970’s. Tenth planet he doubles down and they are from the 70’s again and the regeneration is odd alongside the cybermen not being from mondas! In tomb Victoria is a blonde!

August 21st, 2026 - 1:17pmYes if you only had the books, which until the 90’s and VHS releases we did, then reading tenth then attack was confusing if you didn’t know the original stories. Mind you Jo grant has two first stories in the books! Terror and doomsday weapon (colony in space which came out first)

August 21st, 2026 - 8:28pmLoving the love for the sixties Cybermen. They were truly sinister. I was “lucky” enough to see The Wheel In Space and they terrified me in that. Always seemed to be lurking in the shadows, and I remember being deeply disturbed by Gemma Corwyn’s death.
The Daleks I found more exciting than scary. Then again, I only had the one story which was the repeat of Evil.
The Cybermen got me banned from watching Who. The Invasion was magnificent and as a wee lad Tobias Vaughan was almost as sinister as the Cybermen. The end of episode five saw me hiding behind the sofa, and the invasion cliffhanger the following week literally left me weeping in fear. To be fair, I was only six. But its the Cybermens fault I never got to see The Space Pirates.
BTW The Dominators was great fun for a naive kid. I loved the Quarks. Ive actually put together an Eaglemoss Quark army :D. At the moment, Ive got six, but it wont be long before I unleash my army on the world (Well, Swindon :)) so be warned !

August 21st, 2026 - 9:20pmI enjoy the dominators, I do think it has some issues mainly around the direction of the story, it’s a little lazy in places but it’s still good fun. The quarks are great and troughton with Jamie and zoe are just endlessly watchable. I do love Ian marter’s novel of the dominators as the issues with the original are fixed in it.

You’re right, the Daleks were more exciting than scary…though the Exxilons were so scary, I couldn’t watch part 3 of Death to the Daleks….
I too have a soft spot for the Quarks…

Although just one episode of it with Caven being in it would have been something….

August 22nd, 2026 - 10:28amIm curious about The Space Pirates. Im not convinced its as bad as its reputation suggests. Its certainly a very visual story. Its also very character driven. Caven. Milo. Madeline. Dom. General “Funny Voice” Hermack. Id really like to see these characters interacting. It doesn’t help its reputation having the TARDIS crew as background as they appear to be.
However, if the other five episodes were ever found, I wouldn’t be disappointed.
I was a bit old to be unsettled by the Exillons, but I absolutely get how they could scare a little one. Even their chanting is creepy as.

I think Space Pirates was Robert Holmes’ weakest story….certainly the book was a bit tepid…
Having said that, if the other 5 episodes turned up tomorrow, I’d watch them…!
