Character Options Unveils Penultimate Doctor Who Collect & Build Set
Fourth release in the iconic series adds key parts for the Abominable Snowman build figure.
Following three successful product launches, Character Options is preparing to release the fourth and penultimate set in its acclaimed Doctor Who Collect & Build series.
The new Fourth Doctor season 14 set is the latest addition to the range and includes the largest part yet of the highly anticipated Abominable Snowman figure, which can be completed once all five sets in the series have been collected.
About the set
The Vortex Edition figure set is inspired by the fourth story of classic Doctor Who season 14, first broadcast in 1977. With 9 pieces within, it features:
- The Fourth Doctor action figure in long frock coat and ‘pirate’ boots.
- An alternative Fourth Doctor head with different expression and hat.
- Alternative Tartan pullover and ‘Shada’ waistcoat fronts
- Alternative hand options including a ‘wait’ hand and cupped hand.
- A packet of the Fourth Doctors sweet of choice, jelly babies.
- Sonic screwdriver accessory.
- ‘Soft goods’ fabric multi-coloured long scarf.
- The pre-assembled hips and legs of the Collect & Build Yeti figure.
About the Fourth Doctor
The Fourth Doctor made his first appearance in the story Planet of the Spiders after the Third Doctor’s body was ravaged by deadly radiation and regenerated in front of Sarah Jane Smith and The Brigadier. After initially investigating the theft of top-secret plans for a deadly disintegrator gun, he eventually left Earth and took Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan to the far future where humanity faced a deadly threat on board the Space Ark Nerva. From there he went on too many further adventures in time and space.
Instantly recognisable for his ‘bohemian’ look with floppy felt fedoras, frock coats, waistcoats, pullovers, and his famously long knitted scarf, the Fourth Doctor was known for his wit, eccentricity and refusal to rely on weapons. Instead, he carried only his sonic screwdriver and, on occasion, a yo-yo.
Throughout his travels, the Fourth Doctor confronted tyranny and evil wherever he encountered it, from murderous robots and vampiric criminals in Victorian London to worn-out Cybermen, and even bedraggled Daleks on the wrong side of a galactic war looking for their creator in the ruins of their home planet. As his time in the TARDIS drew to a close, he became increasingly introspective, as though sensing the end was near. His final battle with the Master, high up on a radio telescope, marked the moment his resistance to the inevitable finally faded before he regenerated once again.
The Abominable Snowman
As with the three previous Collect & Build releases, this exclusive pack includes another component of the formidable Abominable Snowman, first seen in 1967. The addition of the hips, legs and feet brings collectors close to completing the figure, with only the fifth and final set remaining to collect.
Al Dewar Creative Director commented: “I assume it’s a surprise to absolutely no one, that the second ‘Vortex’ Doctor in this range is my own personal favourite the Fourth Doctor. We’ve had many versions of this figure in the past, but not in this jacket style, the longest of his frock coats.
“The figure’s swappable heads and interchangeable vest, means it can swap from ‘Planet of Evil’ to ‘Shada’ in one easy move. We’ve also given folks the ability to swap in the Fourth Doctor’s famous ‘Wait’ open palmed hand gesture, as well as including something that was in the very original hard sculpt but never tooled up, the jelly babies. Finally, rather than a hard plastic scarf, we have a soft fabric scarf which, with a bit of fettling, can be scaled to look rather lovely on this figure.
“I grew up with this Doctor, and he’s and absolute childhood hero of mine played by another hero of mine the fabulous and unique Tom Baker. When I think back to watching Doctor Who it’s always me sat on the living room floor in my parents’ house in Perth at 5 past 5 on a Saturday evening and I honestly cannot convey to you the absolute joy of watching that blue vortex explode onto the TV screen, with the introduction…On BBC1 now Doctor WHO meets a challenge from a primitive and hostile culture in a new four part series, The Face Of Evil!”
The Fourth Collect and Build set will be first available to those that bought set 3 on 19th October only at www.Character-online.co.uk . As before those that have purchased set 3 will have a short period of advance access before it becomes available on general release.
