the standard sets don’t catch up to the limited releases so soon.

July 10th, 2021 - 10:19amI think they will space them out but the next two seasons 23 and 26 would make six this year. Since these are already on sale i cant see it making that much difference if people are wanting these as standard but alternate DVD/Bluray could slow these releases down. There is only 8, 14 and 24 to go. Unless they decide to release these as single to allow the limited Editions to keep in front.

May 30th, 2021 - 8:37amI bought the season 12 when it first came out but have not got any more since because on all the TVs and Blu Ray players I tried playing it on, even with changing the play settings. I could not get it to play in full screen, it had two black bars down each side of the screen. does anyone know how to play it so the picture fills the screen? thanks

May 30th, 2021 - 3:10pmThat is full screen for something made in the 1970s. Your Blu Ray player is auto-adjusting the TV screen to match the aspect ratio of the original episodes. Most TVs today are widescreen but in the 1970s they were square and so the episodes were made with a square picture. You should be able to adjust the aspect ratio to widescreen by changing the settings on the TV. There will be a button on the remote, probably a square with arrows inside it, but that will give a distorted picture with everything stretched wider than it should be.

May 30th, 2021 - 3:59pmI had the same problem. Then I discovered a button on my tv remote that can change the screen aspect. On my remote it is a button with a tv symbol with a cross with arrows, like compass points. Hope this helps.

May 30th, 2021 - 8:03pmIt’s a personal preference. I don’t mind the black bars, I just ignore them, and prefer to watch it in the correct ratio. If you find the bars more distracting that a stretched image, that’s up to you.

May 30th, 2021 - 8:17pmTrouble is when stretching a 4.3 picture it loses resolution the more you zoom in, and stretching it sideways makes everyone look 40 stone!

Sometimes you want to pick them up when you want to buy them even if it’s months later which you can’t do with the limited edition versions as they sell out quickly only to end up on eBay for more.
The Limited Editions may not cost much more but the Limited nature of them makes them harder to buy on a budget.

May 30th, 2021 - 5:26am£45 in 1 go can seem a lot however it is the equivalent of £3.75 a week for 12 weeks (about the same price as a coffee or 1 pint a week if you are drinking out). Just cut out 1 small thing a week and it can be easily affordable

May 28th, 2021 - 10:48amNormal editions are great, I want the episodes in HD Blu-Ray quality in a box that protects them and looks nice for a price that is reasonable.
I do not need extra cardboard and paper to make it more special, if you like that sort of thing that’s great keep buying the other versions everybody lives! I mean Wins!

May 27th, 2021 - 6:42pmBut is there any incentive to buy any more of the Limited Edition Sets now if you know they are going to be released fairly rapidly thereafter in better (albeit not as elegant ) packaging and exactly the same Disc Contents? Feel that the Standard Editions shouldn’t include the Extra Disc to make the Limited Editions more special. Sorry, just my personal whinge apologies if I offend anyone 🙂

May 27th, 2021 - 6:56pmCore collectors will “want it now” and will not be interested in waiting a several months for something that’s “standard” and few pounds cheaper.
The originals were only ever advertised as Ltd edition packaging, not content. If you want to wait a few months and save a few £1’s that’s up to you.

I might be in the minority I personally prefer the limited edition packaged box sets plus as I’ve purchased all 8 previous sets and have season 24 on order there is an incentive for me to carry on buying the limited edition versions. Not all seasons will include a bonus disc. Season 18 had k9 and company as it’s last disc season 23 had extended versions of 9-14 of trial and season 24 has the extended version of dragonfire on it. If they excluded those there would be a riot by fans

May 27th, 2021 - 9:06pmThe Ltd Ed packaging to me is so much better. Bigger artwork. Full booklet rather than just half of it. Internal Tardis artwork too.
Looking forward to seeing side by side comparisons of ltd and standard soon. I’m sure someone on YouTube who gets review copies for free from BBC will do it.

May 27th, 2021 - 10:51pmI think the internal artwork with the TARDIS and the Doctor’s face from the limited edition packaging will most likely be transferred to the standard ones too – probably on the other side of the sleeve behind the discs

June 5th, 2021 - 9:44pmVery happy with the standard packaging. The outer cardboard is fairly sturdy too surprisingly. Will definitely be sticking with these re-releases. Was never that keen on the bulky limited edition releases because you could only really obtain one by pre-order. But these re-releases, whilst being somewhat slimmer in packaging, don’t need to be pre-ordered as they are always available, so any disappointment is avoided.

June 12th, 2021 - 4:26pmI have actually been wondering about that, all Doctor Who Series from Series 9 Onwards had A Steelbook release like the re-releases of S1-8 and the 2009-10 and 50th Anniversary Specials Sets, and with one small exception being 2017’s XMas Special all specials are included in the steelbooks… So maybe they arent in a rush to do 9 and 10 just yet

June 12th, 2021 - 4:29pmYou could say that series 5 has had 2 steelbook releases which is true but the original (Crack in Time on a silver background) was quite thick and took up alot of room.
