December 12th, 2024 - 8:07amDoctor Who The Savages on DVD, Blu-ray, and Limited Edition Steelbook. Available to Pre-order on Amazon. It’s just appeared this morning, Merry Whovians Christmas.
Wow now that was an early Christmas Present a wasn’t expecting this morning, check it out. They kept that quite but it’s confirmed that we getting another animation in March The Savages it’s already available to Pre-order on Amazon. Yeah check it out am just so thrilled that were getting this announcement and it’s the last story of William Hartnell’s 3rd Season. Wow guys check it out this is just amazing that they are continuing the Animations.

December 12th, 2024 - 8:15amNot that I condone the words expressed by Ian Levine – but I really, really hope the main Animation feature remains as faithful as possible to the original source material, for the sake of new viewers getting into this story for the first time. By all means make extra special edition cuts, but the animations should remain faithful akin to ‘The Invasion’ and that beautifully made ‘Wheel in Space’ recently shared on YouTube by Tardis-Girl.
That said, great news to know the sound track will be given a refresh in quality, and to have a HD resolution photo recon and frame rate reworking of the surviving fan recorded footage is (personally) all I need to enjoy the story as the most authentic item in the set at the best possible presentation.

December 12th, 2024 - 8:58amWell I thought if it wasn’t smugglers it would be savages. Completes the dodo era (well excluding her massacre cameo). Also gives us a run from the ark to the season 3 finale the war machines. BBC studios team I’m expecting as it’s been a while since underwater menace. Hopefully the criticism has been taken on board. So 3 discs. First 4 part animation that’s got 3 discs. Guessing either there is an extra that required it moving to 3 discs or they have decided to standardise the animations that they all get 3 discs going forward.

December 12th, 2024 - 9:03amI’ve got a YouTube video up covering the news here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbN9aJOC_rk
Excited about it, looks like a March 24th release date.

December 12th, 2024 - 9:26am@bablebro I can see the city being expanded for animation and maybe look more futuristic and less like a set but outside of that I can’t see there being too much tinkering they could do with it. The recon is always going to be the more faithful experience though due to them using stills photos and footage where available.
Going by derek handley who does the recons that’s what the recons are for. To give a more authentic experience than the animations can provide

December 12th, 2024 - 9:47amSlightly disappointed it’s not The Smugglers, but The Savages is much better story than The Celestail Toymaker. Probably a very underrated story. With three disc’s they seem to be really pushing the boat out . Now BBC pull your finger out and make The Wheel in Space an official release.

December 12th, 2024 - 10:57amYay, thank you o bearer of great news!
Will be happy to have it on my shelf

December 12th, 2024 - 11:24amThis might seem daft, please confirm that somebody seen the Savages on the Amazon site this morning, but when I’ve just looked as I was going to pre-order it, it seems to have disappeared it was differently there this morning. Or is someone just put it there for a prank.

December 12th, 2024 - 11:57amAmazon could have hidden the link as they realized they goofed, and showed it early. It was definitely there and definitely looked legit.

December 12th, 2024 - 12:10pmTrailer went up at 12 on YouTube, i watched it, looks same as Underwater Menace style.
Vanished 2 minutes later though, very strange

December 12th, 2024 - 12:29pm@Gordon I’m really not in the technical know-how but I don’t suppose Derek Handley was previously involved with Loose Cannon productions?
As I *think* I recall reading somewhere about Loose Cannon mutually working with the official home media, in some cases announcing if one of their recons had become null and void once an official, faithful recon by the BBC came out. So it would be great to know if anyone from Loose Cannon directly works on the official recons.
Where I draw the line with the Animations is that if two people were to discuss the Doctor Who story – one watches the animation and one the recon, that they can discuss what happens in the story without the facts and details clashing (As what happened with JJ Abrams and his execs during Star Wars because each person had watched a completely different ‘edition’ to one another and apparently caused confusion during a production meeting).
When I’d realised how many tweaks and changes had already happened in the more recent Animations I do feel things have been going too far off the source material, and would cause that confusion – I was only watching a Josh Snares podcast recently and a co host literally was explaining that he’d only ever seen Patrick Troughton’s Doctor as an animated character, so surely deviating from the original scripts and source material is only going to cause a lot of confusion later down the line.
That said, your example of, say, the City getting a nicer view, or, what might’ve been a cutout photo can become a real object in the animation, or a special effect looking better composited in the animation – I’m all for that – but not for rewriting history, or a future animation director deciding something is either too offensive, or simply something in the script they don’t happen to personally like getting erased.
That’s where I can see the point that Ian Levine is making, but again I feel his online behaviour and social media posts have really harmed his case. I actually find some of his ai recon work to really look realistic in certain split second moments, it still needs the software and tech to develop a lot further but I understand he’s already going back and constantly redoing them all so who knows.
So long as all of these different reconstructions are done faithfully to the source material then we are all virtually enjoying the same story at the end of the day.

December 9th, 2024 - 5:53pmPossibly a daft question but are the collectors and standard editions exactly the same? Looking at the cheaper ones and wondering if they are the same just in different packaging.
MIKK89
December 9th, 2024 - 6:52pmThe Content on the Discs is the same for both Limited and Standard, But the Standard is Basically A Slipcase amaray Blu-Ray Bumber BD Case with a Cutdown Booklet at a cheaper-ish price (The LE gives you the contents of each disc along with the Background for each story with more of Lee Bindings excellent Artwork, the Standard is literally just the DISC By DISC Contents and Select images from the LE Booklet)
SV7
December 9th, 2024 - 9:03pmThey are completely identical disc content wise. Only difference is you don’t get the bigger box and the booklets are abridged.
Robert Watkins
December 9th, 2024 - 9:56pmSame content, just the booklet is thinner and has the disc layout only, not the write ups on each story in the limited editions. I prefer standard as cheaper and they don’t start to fall apart like my season 19.
Andy Dodds
December 12th, 2024 - 11:14amYeah John they are the same just the cases are not as bulky as the Limited Editions the booklet is thinner and the standard releases are running 2 years behind the current Limited Editions Yeah if not careful the Limited Editions the cases that hold the discs are sometimes a bit tight and can easily snap the holder, and the cardboard sleeve can wear in time, were as the standard ones the cases I think are much nicer especially with the cases being blue they stand out well.
Dalek Eye Stalk
December 5th, 2024 - 5:16pmI much prefer the standard Blu-ray releases than the bulky cardboard limited editions.
Bellal
December 5th, 2024 - 7:07pmSame here. Am only buying standards from now on. Season 24, talk about the disk tray ripping the back
Tom Williams
December 6th, 2024 - 10:38pm17 and 20 disc tray I admit was terrible aswell
Dalek Eye Stalk
December 10th, 2024 - 8:52pmPlus the standard editions are more compact and fit easier on a shelf made specifically for DVDs or Blu-rays.
Robert Watkins
December 11th, 2024 - 8:01amI think also the factor if the standard has an bad error a couple (not all) it has been made good by the time the standard release comes around. I buy the limited edition, binge it and flog it straight away to get most of what I paid back (54.99). I then wait two plus years to buy the standard editions which have gone as low as £26.99 in the sales. The only downside is I get them signed and because of the wait for standards some actors and crew have passed on, but hey I’m never going to get them all signed

Still amazing artwork for a fabulous series.

December 5th, 2024 - 7:54pmI’ve been thinking this all day – It looks as if that extra finger’s been brushed out has it not?

December 5th, 2024 - 11:11pmHe fixed it when the original PR went out, when it was first spotted by fans, but it was already too late to change the Limited Edition artwork.
