Warlord Games Doctor Who Miniatures Games

dw-games-1

From www.doctorwhominiaturesgame.com

Warlord Games is absolutely delighted to have secured the licence to produce a miniatures game based on the BBC’s enormously popular TV series, Doctor Who (back on BBC One on September 19th!). So delighted we might just have a celebratory jelly baby.

As lifelong Doctor Who fans ourselves, we are extremely pleased to have the chance to bring this iconic series to the tabletop with a game system you all know and love as well as the official range of miniatures to complement it.

warlords

The licence covers not just the latest series of Doctor Who but encompasses all of the Doctors, their companions and their foes. So, expect to see Sea Devils as much as Weeping Angels, Leela as much as Martha Jones, and a long, brightly coloured scarf as much as a fez (fezzes are cool, by the way…).

We’ll bring you news, previews and work-in-progress in the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye on the Warlord Games website and weekly email newsletter for further details.

However if you want to be the first to hear all the news, be sure to sign up to the Doctor Who Miniatures Game newsletter.

Most miniature companies, including Games Workshop, and also Mantic Games, have been phasing out metal and focusing on resin and plastic? Will the Doctor Who ones follow the same trend?

So do these have the same concept of gameplay as the LOTR & Hobbit one?

The basic idea is the same as the Games Workshop ranges. Obviously there will be differences in the rules (different company for starters) but the basic premise of the hobby is the same.

Yes, this is explained above: “expect to see Sea Devils as much as Weeping Angels, Leela as much as Martha Jones, and a long, brightly coloured scarf as much as a fez”

Well as Games Workshop will soon be dropping Middle-Earth (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit), which is the only miniatures game I play, I may as well check this one out.

I do know of Warlord Games and hope they manage to succeed with this.

Yes, this is what it seems to be (a miniatures game) as in a game played with miniatures – like Games Workshop’s Warhammer (1 word).

Ah the old Harlequin figures were good, some you can still buy today (getting very limited though), others are gone forever it seems.
Unpainted ones usually sell for more than painted ones – unless you have a really well done paint job.

Be nice to have official models out there again though. Some places do pseudo-doctorwho characters which are good, but its not the same. Hope the price isn’t extortionate though.

The prices of miniatures has vastly increased over the years, so don’t hold your breath.
