Doctor Who The Other (War) Doctor 5″ Figure

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk

The ‘Other Doctor’ is the Doctor’s dark chapter, an _hitherto unknown incarnation whose existence he has spent centuries repressing, a secret he wants no one to know of.

He is a relic of the past, part of the great Time War, when he spent centuries fighting alongside his fellow Time Lords against the Daleks and made the final decision to end it with a desperate act that cost that incarnation the right to use the name “Doctor”.

This haunted and battle-worn Other Doctor is finally forgiven after helping find a new solution to end the war, giving the Eleventh Doctor a new purpose as he heads into further adventures.

    Booboo i have a question,

What is the most rarest doctor who figure in the 5inch scale?

None of these character building gold chase figures or 3.75 varients :-/ they annoy me :/

Did Character Options manufacture this figure? It does not seem par with their usual standards. It looks almost as though he was MEANT to be 3.75″ but they had to maximise it and stick on a McGann head so it can be sold in the Classic collection.

Otherwise, I think it’s a lovely idea. I’m hoping the figure will be better in hand. If so, I will purchase this with Xmas money. 🙂

Just so over the moon right now!! Can’t wait to have this. I love the detail, yes, he’s a tad bulky, but I’m sure that’s a prototype (mass product ALWAYS looks different). I’m just happy that we even GOT a War Doctor, much less a War Doctor in 5 inch scale! That’s fantastic. NOW my 11 Doctors box set can be complete! Like, really complete. A 5 inch Capaldi would be brilliant, but I’m not going to push my luck, hahaha. Fantastic news!

Prototype image. Subject to change. That’s why the prototype for the Season 18 4th Doctor held a sonic screwdriver, but when the release arrived it had been scrapped due to its minimal use in the season.

…And the costume is clearly nothing like the Dark Eyes variant outfit. Just because the War Doctor wears a leather jacket does not make it compatible with the Dark Eyes costume!

Also, both Doctors are too well built….whilst there is nothing wrong with a portly incarnation of the time lord (actually would love to see a Poirot / Cracker-esque Doctor one day) for both Hurt and McGann the body just looks wrong! As both mean are quite slender – McGann even more so.

Here’s my problem with it – this is The War Doctors costume…
McGann didn’t even wear this in the Night of the Doctor!!! He had his own TV movie-esque design…meaning if he regenerated in to the War Doctor in this outfit why would he be wearing John Hurts? That’s rather silly, unless it’s a tie-in with something we’ll see in the Christmas Special? There are rumours of another appearance of Eight in it…

Also if this is meant to be Eight from NOTD then what’s up with the hair on the head sculpt? It appears to be from Dark Eyes…

I know we shouldn’t be getting too excited for future 5″ New Series, but here’s just some sets I thought of. They are called The Adventure Sets, and include one doctor, one companion and one monster:

    1st Doctor, Susan & Sensorite
2nd Doctor in Fur Coat, Jamie & Yeti
3rd Doctor, Liz Shaw (DWaTS) & Classic Silurian
4th Doctor, Sarah Jane & Muto
    5th Doctor, Tegan & Terileptil
6th Doctor, Mel & Lord Kiv
7th Doctor, Ace & Cheetah Person
    8th Doctor, Grace & ??
9th Doctor, Rose & Auton Bride
    10th Doctor, Donna & Tritovore
    11th, Clara & 2013 Cyberman

    • TheExtremeBlueTARDIS

      December 6th, 2013 - 7:38am

Because I didn’t mean they necessarily had to be from one episode. The 2nd Doctor Adventure Set just was a coincidence. I’d much rather have a Tritovore than a… What, a Crazy Dalek Caan?

    • TheExtremeBlueTARDIS

Meh, Miss Foster would be an okay figure, and would be my last choice. Personally these are the potential figures we could have had:

      Anne Droid
      Pilot Fish
      Series 1 Improved Rose Variant
      Clockwork Woman
      Macra Deluxe Figure
      Destroyed Dalek Caan
      Donna Noble (Start of TUATW)
      Cybershade
      Jackson Lake
      Tritovore
      Stingray Deluxe Figure
      Flood Andy
      Gadget!!
      Saturnyne
      Smiler IN Booth
      Liz 10
      Ganger In Acid Suit
      Siren
      Amy Peg Doll
      Handbot
      Minotaur
      Long Coat Doctor
      Anti-Bodies
      Older Amy

    • DoctorArkham

      December 7th, 2013 - 8:20am

I think they’re all good ideas but the Amy Peg Doll. I think a more likely release would either be the Dancer or Mrs Rossiter, just so it doesn’t HAVE to be Amy specifically.

I’ve got an idea you know how we didn’t see hurt regenerate in to 9 Maybe what Moffat said is true that he was anomaly doctor which could of meant judging by this figure that he regenerated back in to eight and that’s were the Christmas episode ties in!

Im very happy and not complaining but now 3.75” , 5”, 3.75”, limited edition, supposedly rares found easily abroad, classic packaging for figures of new doctor who… very confused and messy is the situation, but in the total caos im happy 😀

What I’m assuming is that they will release a Young War Doctor (seen breifly at the end of the Night of the Doctor) weaing the 8th Doctors outfit form that episode…we can then go head swap crazy…8th Doc head on Young War Doctor and Young War Doctors head on Old War Doctors body.

I know my orginal Eigtht Doctors head comes off really easy…I’m hoping this new scupt will fit

I heard rumors of a 5 inch 11th Doctor in his costume from The Snowmen, maybe they’re planning to release a Snowmen set with the 11th Doctor, Dr. Simeon, and maybe Clara. It’s probably gonna be a single carded release if it IS released, but we’ll see.

I am still skeptical of a capaldi figure. I hope there will be one. However I want an Clara/oswin figure more. Seeing as she was in the pre 2013 “asylum of the Daleks” it is possible. (and no character I will not ACCEPT another 5 inch dalek figure as an oswin figure)

      December 5th, 2013 - 11:57am

Couldn’t agree more. The 5″ scale are much better, more detail and clarity. They stand out on a shelf. Having all of the 5″ range, I don’t bother with the smaller ones which is a shame because I enjoyed collecting them. Maybe we could start a petition to get them released in both formats!!!

    • booboo

      December 5th, 2013 - 12:00pm

what good would a petition to Character do?

if you want to petition anyone it should be the wholesale buyers, if they dont buy you dont get.

      December 5th, 2013 - 12:50pm

I really hope they eventually decide to do a 5 inch release of the 11th Doctor in his purple coat. Seriously, I was sooooo looking forward to that figure. Would’ve been awesome. Then they had to ruin it by going to 3.75 inch. Such a trivial matter, but I seriously hope they decide to go back eventually (and re-release the current 3.75″ in the proper 5″).

    • Dalek the Supreme

      December 5th, 2013 - 5:03pm

As upset I am that I’m gonna have to switch to a new scale or forget about Doctor Who figures from Series 7 onwards, it’s that backwards way of thinking that has the New Paradigm Daleks shoved into the background for no in-story reason.
